"Truthiness" is Merriam-Webster's Word of the Year
by Adam Finley, posted Dec 9th 2006 6:08PM
First the American Dialect Society picked "truthiness" as the Word of the Year for 2005 and now voters who took part in an online poll for Merriam-Webster have also picked Stephen Colbert's favorite word as Word of the Year for 2006. I suppose this could go on indefinitely since apparently "Word of the Year" isn't trademarked or anything. In fact, I nominate "truthiness" for "Word of the Year" for the years 2007 through 2586. Stand back while I use this awesome power of nomination I've just discovered. Though I have always been partial to "shwappadabba," even though that's not actual a word, but then, neither is "truthiness" according to Merriam-Webster. I figure if Colbert can just make up a word, so can I. I'm not sure what the definition of "shwappadabba" is exactly, so let's just say it's a type of fanbelt.TV Squad Hot Topics
