'Storm Chasers' Sneak Peek: Check Out the Action-Packed New Season (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Sep 24th 2011 5:00PM
Discovery's 'Storm Chasers'The 'Storm Chasers' are back, and judging by all the insane natural disasters we've seen on the Weather Channel and in our own cities this year, they're gonna have a very action-packed new season.

The 2011 storm season was unlike anything this country has seen in a long time, and the guys of the Dominator, TIV and Twistex teams were right at the heart of the storms, including the tragic and infamous tornado outbreak of over 200 twisters that tore through Alabama and Mississippi back in April.

In their continuing mission to figure out the science of these storms to save lives with better early warning systems, the guys have also upgraded their high-tech storm-chasing vehicles this season, so look out for the reveal of Reed Timmer's new Dominator 2.

We've got two new clips from the season premiere (Sun., Sept. 25, 9PM ET on Discovery) -- take a look after the jump and tell us what you think.

'Storm Chasers' Team TVN Talks Big Storms & Keeping Things Drama-Free (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Nov 17th 2010 4:20PM
'Storm Chasers' has been insane this season, hasn't it? I mean, of course a show about tracking tornadoes gets its fair share of weather issues, but it's the drama when the storms stop that really keeps people tuning in. And there's plenty of it.

On tonight's episode (10PM ET on Discovery), the Twistex team tests out their new tower probe, and the results are amazing; the TIV team is in major trouble, and things only get worse when Sean misses his first chase in over a decade; and tensions rise between Joel and Reed on team TVN yet again, and the guys could miss a pretty huge intercept because of their constant tinkering with the Dominator.

Reed, Josh and Chris dropped by the AOL offices in the Dominator to show off the car, talk 'Twister,' tease what we can expect for the rest of this season and rate themselves on a scale of 1 to Crazy.

The Show Girl Catches Up With Jorge Garcia, 'Storm Chasers' & Tracy Morgan (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Nov 12th 2010 10:50PM
'Lost' alum Jorge GarciaIt's no secret: I miss 'Lost.' A lot. So when I heard star Jorge Garcia would be visiting 'How I Met Your Mother,' I knew I had to get my fix. I hit the set to find out what he's up to with the 'HIMYM' gang, what his character has in common with Hurley and the question he's asked most often since 'Lost' ended.

I also catch up with the TVN Team from 'Storm Chasers' to get up close and personal with The Dominator, their indestructible beast of a car. That thing has some insane added features! If you're a fan, sound off in the comments for a chance to win Reed Timmer's new book 'Into the Storm.'

Then I chat with Tracy Morgan about his HBO stand-up special 'Tracy Morgan: Black and Blue.' His hilarious, subject-hopping, bleep-filled tirades taught me one thing: don't ever ask him if he's just like his '30 Rock' character Tracy Jordan.

'Storm Chasers' Airs Tribute Episode for Matt Hughes

by PopEater Staff, posted Nov 4th 2010 4:40PM
'Storm Chasers' Star Matt Hughes Dead at 30Veteran meteorologist Matt Hughes, a star on Discovery Channel's 'Storm Chasers,' was memorialized in his final episode on Nov. 3.

The 30-year-old died May 26 in Wichita, Kan., though many fans only learned of his death when the episode aired.

TMZ is reporting that Hughes died after attempting to commit suicide. A June 7 blog post from Wichita's ABC affiliate KAKE-TV, written by Hughes' friend and former colleague, reads: "Matt Hughes was taken to the hospital after trying to take his life. Matt was in the hospital for several days in intensive care, there was a 24 hour vigil outside the waiting room, family, other chasers, business associates, etc. I knew we were going to lose him. What a lot of us didn't know was that he suffered from depression."

Hughes is survived by his wife, Kendra, and two sons, Collin and Hunter.

Top Five Death-Wish Shows on the Discovery Channel

by Jane Boursaw, posted Apr 10th 2010 9:00AM
Deadliest Catch, crab fishingDiscovery Channel unveiled its lineup for the 2010-11 season this week, and it looks like more stellar programming for the real-life stories network. You can read more about it here, but two that caught my eye are 'Engineering the Impossible,' where a team of specialists search for clues about how some of the world's most fantastic structures were built; and 'The Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero.' a documentary executive produced by Steven Spielberg.

This made me think about some of my favorite shows on the Discovery Channel, and I realized that they usually involve people in ridiculously disgusting or deadly situations. I think of these as the "real" reality shows, rather than the manufactured reality shows like 'Survivor' and 'The Amazing Race.'

Ok, we'll take Bear Grylls out of the equation, because, clearly, there's no need for him to be dropped into the wilderness and have to drink his own pee. But the others on my list are just awesome people doing death-wish jobs no one else wants to do. Follow me after the jump to see who made my top five list.
