HBO Announces 'Angry Boys' Premiere Date

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 25th 2011 4:05PM
Angry Boys'Angry Boys,' the latest series to come from the twisted mind of Australian Chris Lilley, finally has a Stateside premiere date.

The new show, which stars Lilley as six different characters, "explores the lives, dreams and aspirations of males in present-day society," according to HBO. It'll debut its 12-episode season Mon., Dec. 5.

HBO announced it would produce 'Angry Boys' alongside Lilley after the network aired his first crossover success, the cult hit 'Summer Heights High,' in 2008.

Chris Lilley Fans, Get Even More Excited for 'Angry Boys' With a Full-Length Trailer and New Clips

by Jean Bentley, posted Apr 21st 2011 2:00PM
Chris Lilley, Angry BoysIf you're not familiar with Chris Lilley's cult-hit Australian faux-documentary series 'Summer Heights High,' then the idea of one white Aussie dude playing a set of identical twins (one deaf), their prison guard grandmother, the pushy entrepreneur Asian mother of a professional skateboarding son, a washed-up surfer and an African-American rapper (yes, there is blackface) kind of sounds terrible.

But if you've memorized the catchphrases of Aussie teenagers Ja'mie and Jonah and their drama teacher Mr. G, the full trailer for Lilley's new series, 'Angry Boys,' produced in conjunction with HBO, will be the greatest seven minutes and 55 seconds of your life.

Like no offense, but it's true.

Watch out for the sneaky nuts in the full trailer after the jump, along with a couple of other clips from the series. (Warning: Lilley's humor isn't exactly vulgar, but it's not for everyone.) 'Angry Boys' is allegedly "coming soon." Not soon enough, though ...

It's Chris Lilley's Birthday, Watch This 'Summer Heights High' Clip to Celebrate

by Jean Bentley, posted Nov 10th 2010 3:00PM
Chris Lilley on 'Summer Heights High''Summer Heights High' mastermind Chris Lilley turns 36 today.

It's not a holiday we usually celebrate, but we really just wanted an excuse to post a clip from his hilarious cult Australian comedy.

What's that you say? You've never seen this eight-episode mockumentary that aired on HBO in 2008 and introduced America to the self-obsessed teenager Ja'mie, the deluded drama teacher Mr. G, and the misunderstood troublemaker Jonah? Consider this your introduction. Enjoy!

New Chris Lilley project in the works

by Annie Wu, posted Oct 2nd 2009 3:35PM
summer heights highExciting news for both fans of Summer Heights High and men dressing as multiple characters in general! HBO is helping to launch a new Chris Lilley project called Angry Boys, set to begin production this month.

I've seen some of Lilley's other work and, while it's intriguing, none of it has been quite as amazing as the sheer ridiculousness that was Summer Heights High. It became a phenomenon on the Internet and found a good deal of success when it finally came to the States via HBO.

New TV on DVD releases this week

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 23rd 2009 6:03PM
Make Room For DaddyHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

Let's do something different this week. Which of these DVDs do you plan on buying? Let us know in the comments section.

I can't imagine buying any of these shows. The only two I might be interested in are Just Shoot Me (though I think it's one of those shows I'm happy just to see in reruns and not actually own) and Make Room For Daddy. But I would buy that just because it's a classic show, not because it's one of my favorites. It's one of those classic shows that I just never got into, unlike I Love Lucy or The Dick Van Dyke Show or The Honeymooners.

  • Breaking Bad - Season 1
  • Canterbury's Law - Complete Series
  • Cities of the Underground - Season 2
  • Dirty Jobs - Collection 4
  • Futurama - Into the Wild Blue Yonder
  • Girlfriends - Season 6
  • Just Shoot Me - Season 3
  • The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice
  • Make Room For Daddy - Season 6, Vol. 1
  • The Mighty B - Vol. 1
  • My Wife and Kids - Season 1
  • Oliver Twist - Miniseries
  • The Red Green Show - 2001 Season
  • Spider-Man - The Vulture
  • Summer Heights High - Season 1
  • The Universe - Seasons 1 and 2 Megaset

Best and Worst of 2008: Annie's List

by Annie Wu, posted Jan 6th 2009 1:26PM

BEST

Summer Heights High: Including this Australian show from 2007 is only kind of, sort of cheating because it premiered in America (HBO) this year. Ha! Loophole! Anyway, this show was a great discovery and it's worth a look if you're into mockumentaries. Chris Lilley's performance(s) were hilarious and I am not ashamed to admit I still get "Naughty Girl" stuck in my head every once in a while.
