NBC Tweaks Summer Schedule
NBC is making some last-minute tweaks to its summer schedule, The Wrap is reporting.Though not totally confirmed, network programming executives have decided to make Thursday nights all-comedy with additional episodes of 'The Office' and 'Parks and Recreation' in the 10PM hour. Some say this is a sign of more scripted comedies down the line, like the new anthology 'Love Bits'. In addition, recently renewed dramedy 'Parenthood' will begin to air at 8PM on Saturdays.
The other tweak involves 'Minute to Win It.' The network will air original episodes Wednesdays at 8PM, beginning Jul. 7 (as a lead-in to 'America's Got Talent'). If that works, NBC may add a second airing in August -- 9PM on Mondays. Executives need to be careful with this one, as viewers can easily burn out on multiple, weekly viewings of a show (the 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' effect), which will make the show's renewal dead on impact.
Showtime Sets Summer Premiere Dates for 'Big C,' 'Real L World'
This summer, Showtime, whose highly anticipated season 2 premieres of 'Nurse Jackie' and 'United States of Tara' bow next Mon., March 22, will add three new shows to its burgeoning line-up of original series. With 'The Real L World,' fans of the cable net's long-lived "beautiful lesbians living in West Hollywood" drama, 'The L World,' will thrill to the new reality twist being taken on their cult fave. The show premieres Sun., June 20 at 10PM ET.
Also in the "reality" genre will be 'The Green Room With Paul Provenza,' a show that promises, according to the Los Angeles Times, to "give viewers unprecedented and candid access" to what goes on behind the scenes when celebrated stand-up comics like Roseanne and Bob Saget work to hone their material. Look for 'Green Room' when it premieres Sun., June 10 at 10:30PM ET.
The craptacular FOX summer schedule
I'm going to be honest with you because you all have been honest with me. Sometimes a bit too honest. Sometimes honest to the point of being creepy and making me change my phone number. But, honest nonetheless.
Anyway, I may be a bit jaded in my opinions of the summer schedule that FOX released last week. I mean, they take two of the most popular dramas on their schedule -- Bones and House -- and just bounce them around the schedule so much just so they can accommodate five thousand hours of American Idol. Frankly, it pisses me off a bit.
That's why I need your help to determine if I am way off in thinking that their summer programming schedule is a heaping pile of poo. Take a look at the schedule after the jump and then we'll talk.
Passwords, swingers and dogs mark CBS' summer schedule
Like many of its network companions, CBS is using the lazy days of summer to roll out a schedule light on original scripted fare and heavy on unscripted programming. Unlike many of its network companions, CBS is going a different route with some of its original material.
Out of the two original dramas Swingtown is probably the one readers of TV Squad will remember as it was introduced to us during the network's upfronts last year. The show will cover the social and sexual revolutions of the 1970s -- a time when gas was in short supply, inflation was skyrocketing, and the world was in political upheaval. You know, nothing like it is now in the 2000s. The other scripted show will be Flashpoint. This cop drama will follow the adventures of SRU, a task force that is sent out to diffuse emergency situations.
