Swimming Lesson Gets Dramatic on 'Parenthood' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 17th 2010 1:19AM
Parenthood, Swimming LessonsNote to parents: Before you ask your kid to push off and swim several feet to you, you should probably have a back-up plan. As in, someone right next to the kid in case they start to panic and go under.

That was the lesson learned on 'Parenthood' (Tue., 10PM ET on NBC), but even worse was the fact that several other parents and kids were looking on. Like those kids are really going to want to take that leap of faith now.

Watch the video after the jump.

by Annie Wu, posted Aug 27th 2008 7:53PM
Michael PhelpsSaturday Night Live is about to kick off its 34th season, and they're determined to do it with a bang. Doing a smart job of quickly pulling in America's biggest star of the summer, the show has announced that super-crazy Olympian god slash merman Michael Phelps will be hosting the premiere. It also looks like the musical guest will be Lil' Wayne, but who has time to care about that? Michael Phelps is swimming back to America and he's hosting!

You can already order NBC's Olympics DVDs

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 21st 2008 4:23PM
Olympics DVDThe Olympics aren't even over until this Sunday, but you can already order the DVDs.

NBC will release three different DVD sets for the 2008 Beijing Games. The first DVD is titled Michael Phelps: Greatest Olympic Champion - The Inside Story, and will show all of his gold medal-winning races and behind the scenes footage that hasn't been seen before. The second set is titled 2008 Beijing Opening Ceremonies, and will feature two DVDs packed with footage of the expensive, epic opening ceremonies. The last set has the rather uninspired title of 2008 Beijing General Highlight DVD (which I hope and pray gets a better title than that), which will be a recap of the entire Olympic Games. The opening ceremony DVD will be $29.99 and the others will sell for $19.99.

Four reasons why I'm not watching the Olympics

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 11th 2008 2:04PM
OlympicsI feel bad about not watching the Olympics. It feels almost un-American. Not only am I not cheering on the US athletes, I'm also not watching 2000 hours of TV programming, which is even more against the ideals of this country. But I just can't get into any of the games or events. Why?

1. I'm not that interested in sports, actually. There are two sports that I truly love: tennis and baseball (in that order). So if I were to watch the Olympics, I would suddenly have to become a fan of swimming or volleyball or track and field or weightlifting, and if I don't watch those shows the rest of the year why would I suddenly get an intense interest in them every few years? I have a general "I hope the USA does well" feeling, of course, and I'm glad to hear that Michael Phelps and Dara Torres are doing well, and I hope the U.S. tennis team does well. But I think you really have to be into sports (or the human drama/stories aspect) to watch the Olympics at length.
