by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 8th 2011 5:10PM
AlphasNow, we're not saying that fog automatically makes things scarier, but when coupled with an abandoned football field at night, things can get pretty eerie.

But the teenage couple featured in AOL TV's exclusive preview of tonight's all-new episode of 'Alphas' didn't seem to let the creepy atmosphere get to them. And even mysterious clanging didn't interrupt their makeout session on the bleachers.

Wait until you see what finally freaked them out!

Agent Steve Jinks Knows When Artie and Claudia Lie on 'Warehouse 13' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 12th 2011 5:42AM
'Warehouse 13' - 'The New Guy'When we last left our intrepid agents, Myka had quit 'Warehouse 13' (Mon., 9PM ET on Syfy). That left an opening in their ranks. And while the crew continued working their peculiar cases, they stumbled on someone with a peculiar ability all his own.

Pete has his intuition, Myka her photographic memory and Claudia her tech genius (and supposed fate to be the next caretaker).

Steve Jinks is Dr. Cal Lightman ('Lie to Me'), only to a supernatural degree. In other words, he absolutely can tell unequivocally if someone is lying, which was a bit of a problem when Artie and Claudia ran into him while on a case.

The 'Alphas' Track Down an Unerring Sharpshooter in Syfy Series Premiere (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 12th 2011 3:44AM
'Alphas' - 'Pilot'Syfy wrapped up its night-of-a-million-three premieres with the series launch of 'Alphas' (Mon., 10PM ET on Syfy). The idea is to tap into that same sense of joy and wonder that fans got when they watched the first season of 'Heroes.' Remember when that show was great?

The Alphas may not be the unassuming everymen who comprised the 'Heroes' crew, but they do harness normal human capabilities for their powers. And they have the advantage of already being organized as a team under an eccentric doctor, like so many comic book teams that have existed over the years.

To help ease us into this reality and these people, we're introduced to who will become the fifth member of the team. And in classic comic book fashion, they had to fight before they could all decide to get along. But that scene showcased everyone's abilities beautifully.

Fargo and Zane Take an Unexpected Trip Into Orbit on 'Eureka' Premiere (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 12th 2011 1:49AM
'Eureka' - 'Liftoff'Syfy original programming came back in a major way with the premieres of three scripted series. Kicking off the night was the return of 'Eureka' (Mon., 8PM ET on Syfy), followed by the Season 3 premiere of 'Warehouse 13' and the series premiere of 'Alphas.'

And to make sure the geek inside all of us was immediately engrossed, 'Eureka' tapped into that astronaut fantasy everyone harbored when they were younger. Only, it wasn't all fun and games for Fargo and Zane when they accidentally launched themselves into orbit.

For one, the capsule they were in was very crowded. For another, Zane was still emotionally mixed up about what is, or isn't, going on with Jo. That left Fargo to be brilliant and save their lives ... which he actually did.

Review: With 'Alphas,' Syfy Aims for Superhero Territory

by Maureen Ryan, posted Jul 11th 2011 1:30PM
If you have even casual familiarity with the world of superhero comics and films, nothing about 'Alphas' (10PM ET Monday, Syfy) will strike you as unusual.

There aren't any tights or costumes in sight, but many of the familiar building blocks are put in place by the drama's series premiere: The unusually powerful team that sometimes held back by bickering and interpersonal issues; the abrupt government agent with the ambiguous agenda; the thoughtful, professorial leader of the team who is not named Professor Charles Xavier but who might as well be. (At least 'Alphas' comes by its 'X-Men' connections honestly: Co-creator Zak Penn was one of the writers on a couple of 'X-Men' movies.)

As an origin story, 'Alphas' hits some notes too hard and lacks a certain subtlety, yet there's potential in this tale, especially if it delves into the psychological cost of being extraordinary.

Alphas sneak peekThere's something fishy going on in this breakdancing video.

Dude's clearly skilled, but that head spin at the end looks like an upside-down figure skating spin -- not an ability found in nature. Well, it is found in nature in the world of Syfy's new series 'Alphas.'

Scheduled to premiere Mon., July 11 at 10PM, 'Alphas' follows a group of people gifted with powers beyond the average human (think 'Heroes' or 'X-Men'), like the breakdancing guy in our exclusive clip.
