'The Amazing Race' Season 17, Episode 7 Recap
by Jackie Schnoop, posted Nov 8th 2010 9:00AM
['The Amazing Race' - 'I Want to Be in the Circus, That's Where I Belong']No clowning around here, it's high time to change this show's Sunday night time-slot to another night where it won't constantly be delayed by football! Here on the East Coast the show was delayed by more than an hour. DVRs get confused and writers get antsy.
It could be worse. We could be David Caruso fans.
Tonight's episode of 'The Amazing Race' was perplexing and not just because of the delay. Sure, it was entertaining. Don't get me wrong. It's never not entertaining. Read on for the skinny!

['The Amazing Race' - 'Run, Babushka, Run']
Usually a drag race involves cars, motor oil and testosterone. But you can never predict what it might mean on 'The Amazing Race' -- this week's "drag race" was a little less automobile, a little more Greenwich Village Halloween Parade. Still, brawn may be more helpful than brains at times.
The teams never know what's ahead of them on the race. As viewers, we just tag along vicariously on the ride. However, one thing we can predict for certain: bickerers most often remain bickerers, making the other teams even more likable.

['The Amazing Race' - 'Tastes Like a Million Dollars!']Do you know what's amazing? Phil Keoghan's eyebrow raising abilities. Sure, it's 'The Amazing Race' and that in itself is amazing. But, just how does he do that? I tried, but can only do it when I close the other eye. It ends up looking like I have an uncontrollable tic.
Phil did the eyebrow raise twice in succession tonight for the second place team, so we had a double treat. Now that you're all trying to raise your eyebrow, read on for the skinny on which team made the Pit Stop first ... and last.

['The Amazing Race' - 'We Should Have Brought Gloves and Butt Pads']Ice, ice baby. The teams went from the extreme heat of Ghana to the Arctic Circle for this leg. Sure, it's a drastic change of cultures. But they might find themselves wishing for just a bit of heat once again.
They should have realized that you always need to be careful what you wish for. And, on 'The Amazing Race' you're never quite sure where you'll be and what challenges lie ahead. I don't know about "butt pads" but gloves are always a good idea.

['The Amazing Race' - 'In Phil We Trust']OK, teams ... who's ready for a geography quiz? Not just any old quiz, but one on African geography. Any takers? After all, you are on the continent. The very least we'd expect is that you have an inkling about where you might be.
No, don't try to turn this on us. We're not on the show. If we're totally ignorant regarding what country is where on the African continent, the world won't see our epic failure and mock us. For the price of a map, perhaps the kingdom will be lost.

['The Amazing Race' - 'A Kiss Saves the Day']Last week we dipped our toes in to feel how the water was in the latest season of 'The Amazing Race.' It was our first look at the teams and the last glance we'd have of one team. While the new "Express Pass" was introduced, we didn't see the standard Roadblock and Detour.
This week we cannonballed right into the action. We're talking Roadblock, Detour, crazy cabbies and locals galore! The pressure is on the teams. Who will be eliminated next?

['The Amazing Race' - 'They Don't Call It the Amazing Race for Nothin'!']Teams ready? Let's go! Just hearing the theme music for the show gets my adrenaline going. If there's one reality show that folks tend to go on as much for the adventure as the possible winnings, it's 'The Amazing Race.' As a result, I think the show often attracts a more interesting cast. They're not all bartenders or models in their twenties. Phew!
Even as fans, we can vicariously take that whirlwind trip around the world and see sights we'd never see otherwise. Tonight, we start out in Gloucester, Mass. Not to fear, we didn't stay there long.
'The Amazing Race' - 'They Don't Even Understand Their Own Language' Recap
by Jackie Schnoop, posted May 2nd 2010 11:10PM

(S16E11) Yikes, it's the penultimate episode of 'The Amazing Race' already? Where did the season go? But, thinking back, I barely remember some of the earliest departing teams. I would have predicted that two of the teams in the final four would be here due to their early successes on legs. The other two, not so much.
However, on this show, the final four means little. It's the final three who finish the race, win or lose. If the final four were the criteria, perhaps we'd have a season finale which lasts more than an hour. For a top Emmy-winning reality show, the hour season premiere and hour season finale just doesn't cut it with me. I want more!
'The Amazing Race' - 'I Feel Like I'm In, Like, Sicily' Recap

(S16E10) With four teams remaining on 'The Amazing Race,' this season's almost a wrap. While the remaining teams aren't quite the teams I expected vying for the win, there's one aspect of the four teams which almost puts me in shock. There's only one woman left. That's a bit surprising in and of itself.
'The Amazing Race' - 'Dumb Did Us In' Recap
by Jackie Schnoop, posted Apr 11th 2010 11:54PM

(S16E09) Yikes! I'm finding it hard to believe that we're down to five teams on 'The Amazing Race.' It seems like it just started a few weeks ago. Where has the season gone? The five remaining teams aren't necessarily the final five teams I would have predicted in the beginning. I really thought Steve and Allie or Joe and Heidi would have taken up a few of the last slots.
But both of those teams were Philiminated, so we're down to models, lesbians, cowboys, cops and young brothers, oh my. Well, the cowboys are brothers, too. Are the best teams still in the running? I can only say that since they haven't been eliminated, they deserve to be there. That doesn't mean I have to like them.
'The Amazing Race' Teams Build Champagne Pyramids (VIDEO)
by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 22nd 2010 2:42AM
There's nothing more fun than seeing a pyramid of champagne glasses topple over into a heap of shattered glass. Fun for us; not so much for Brent and Caite on 'The Amazing Race' (Sun., 8PM ET on CBS).At least Dan and Jordan's pyramid stayed upright. They so deserved that champagne they drank after all was said and done.

'The Amazing Race' - 'Cathy Drone?' Recap

(S16E06) I realize, for the most part, sometimes the folks on the West Coast are envious of us in the East. After all, we get to watch our favorite shows three hours earlier than they do! Sure, we can give breaking news on spoilers like "Phil was at the welcome mat with a mime." But there's a huge drawback to viewing our favorite shows here in the New York City area.
It's called sports. It doesn't matter what sport either. Sooner or later, golf, basketball, football, baseball or another fan-driven game with its overpaid pseudo-celebrities delay our favorite reality shows with their own pseudo-celebs. Tonight, 'The Amazing Race' was delayed nearly an hour due to March Madness. That's aptly named as I get mad every March at basketball.
'The Amazing Race' - 'I Think We're Fighting the Germans, Right?' Recap
by Jackie Schnoop, posted Mar 15th 2010 1:08AM

(S16E05) Brave soldiers marching as to war ... or maybe it's just a team from 'The Amazing Race' hoping to make the pit stop without interference from the Red Baron. The episode started off on a new and different note. After arriving at the last pit stop, the teams were taken to an undisclosed location. They didn't know; we didn't know. Mais oui, we all figured it out. It turned out that the lack of whereabouts knowledge wasn't what affected this leg. It was all about over confidence. That can end up biting you in the butt.
Louie and Michael Face a Battlefield on 'The Amazing Race' (VIDEO)
by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 14th 2010 11:17PM
'The Pacific' wasn't the only war on TV tonight. The contestants on 'The Amazing Race' (Sun., 8PM ET on CBS) had to face a battlefield with explosions, barbed wire, and plenty of adrenaline-pumping action. But here's the good news: Louie and Michael snagged first place, and each were rewarded with a 55" HD TV! All the better to watch those future 'Amazing Race' episodes.

'The Amazing Race' - 'We Are No Longer in the Bible Belt' Recap
by Jackie Schnoop, posted Mar 8th 2010 1:08AM

(S16E04) Ah, a tough decision -- 'The Amazing Race' or the start of the Academy Awards? Nah, not tough at all. If 'The Amazing Race' is on, I'm watching! I'm such an addict. I just can't get that rush of adrenalin, that perched-on-the-edge-of-my-seat excitement and more over the Oscars. With the Academy Awards, I don't have a team to cheer on, nor anyone to mock. I don't get that quick smack of cultural knowledge watching Hollywood glitz. Give me beer-drinking, bungee-jumping, bad taxi hacks, sauerkraut-eating, polka-playing, soccer ball kicking, strange metro systems, and teamwork (or the lack thereof). That's what I want for my Sunday evening. And, anyway, the best awards come late into the evening!
