Makeover Week Is Full of Surprises, And Tim Gunn, on 'The Biggest Loser' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 4th 2011 1:19AM
Tim Gunn, 'The Biggest Loser'"Makeover Week" is always a highlight of 'The Biggest Loser' (Tue., 8PM ET on NBC). It's great to see all the blood, sweat and tears the contestants have poured into their workouts pay off with fantastic new looks. Plus, those emotional reunions with loved ones who are always stunned at the beautiful transformations.

With a double-elimination last week, there were only five contestants to fix up this week, and it was a good thing too as they only had an hour to get through this episode.

That's one hour for a makeover with Tim Gunn -- their self-stylized fairy godfather -- a concert from One Republic, a car challenge and a memorable weigh-in.

Suvir Gets Preachy As 'Biggest Loser' Invades 'Top Chef Masters' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 28th 2011 4:17AM
'The Biggest Loser' on 'Top Chef Masters'With Curtis Stone hosting 'Top Chef Masters' (Wed., 10PM ET on Bravo), it was really only a matter of time before the show hooked up with 'The Biggest Loser.' This week was that moment, as everyone from the weight-loss competition showed up to sample the chef's wares, with Alison Sweeney actually on hand to judge.

It was like stepping into a time machine for fans of 'The Biggest Loser,' as Courtney and everyone who's already been cut after her was still there.

It must have been a fun day for the 'Loser' contestants as they got to order what they wanted from these world-class chefs.

Unfortunately for Irene, Suvir decided that instead of giving her a low-cal hamburger with bacon and cheese, he'd give her a vegetable concoction that she wasn't impressed by.

'The Biggest Loser: Couples' Season 11, Episode 17 Recap

"At this time I'm asking to leave 'The Biggest Loser' for personal reasons."

With the premiere of 'The Voice' truncating 'Loser' to a single hour this week and next, I was half-expecting to get a half-episode from the producers. After all, there were only seven contestants left in the game coming into this episode.

Instead, we packed "Favorites Week" into a single hour, which meant way less time with the trainers. But their absence was made up by the inclusion of past contestants Sam Poueu, Ali Vincent and Tara Costa. One of them even competed in this week's challenge against the contestants.

But the big shocker of the week came when the above quote was uttered at the Weigh-In. Who spoke it and whether or not they went through with it may change everything you thought about how the game would progress from here.

A 'Biggest Loser' First as Someone Asks to Leave the Show (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 27th 2011 1:36AM
'The Biggest Loser'Well, this week's episode of 'The Biggest Loser' (Tue., 8PM ET on NBC) should get people talking for sure. While it was condensed into a single hour thanks to the two-hour premiere of 'The Voice,' the show still managed to pack that hour with plenty of drama and even some familiar faces.

Favorites Week brought back the likes of Sam Poueu and Ali Vincent to work out the contestants. Tara Costa returned to compete with the contestants in the most popular challenge from her season on the show.

But the biggest drama happened on the scale, and we're not talking about any weight loss results.

"At this time I'm asking to leave 'The Biggest Loser' for personal reasons." It would be the first time anyone has ever quit the game. But who said this?

Alison Sweeney, 'The Biggest Loser'['The Biggest Loser: Couples' - 'Week Sixteen']

The rather blatant theme of the week was conquering fears. To help drive this point home, we had contestants diving off of cliffs, scaling mountains, riverboarding and bungee jumping. Alison Sweeney even got in on the action with a death-defying stunt of her own.

But it wasn't all fun and games, as the competition shifted to its final phase. That's right, while these guys haven't made it to Makeover Week yet, they did make it to Singles. Eight contestants, three trainers and another week in the paradise that is New Zealand.

After last week's uneven and in some cases disastrous turn on the scale, the contestants needed to buckle down and focus on their weight loss, which wasn't so easy to do with all those crazy adventures they were being taken on.

Hannah and Olivia Spend a Quiet Moment in New Zealand on 'Biggest Loser' (VIDEO)

Hannah & Olivia, 'The Biggest Loser: Couples'Thanks to a challenge win this week on 'The Biggest Loser: Couples' (Tue., 8PM ET on NBC), Olivia and Hannah were able to get away from the game for a little while and enjoy New Zealand. It was a special moment for the two sisters to reflect on their time on the show.

"I just don't think that anybody thought that you or I would ever make it this far," Olivia said, and we have to admit she's were probably right about that.

"That's the best part about this," Hannah agreed.

The moment of quiet was just what Hannah needed to focus her thoughts. It's too easy to get caught up in the game and lose sight of your true goals. "There are great things ahead for me," she said. "And I never believed that until I came here."

Before the contestants even got a chance to recover from the "double" elimination last week when Brett was sent packing right behind Courtney, Alison Sweeney hit them with a bombshell.

For the next two weeks, 'The Biggest Loser: Couples' is relocating to Auckland, New Zealand. It's a huge trip and a very exciting opportunity for the contestants, but also a very daunting and frightening situation.

Travel wreaks havoc on weight-loss regimens, particularly if you're going to the opposite end of the world where your sleep schedule is going to have to be rewired. As expected, we saw some very interesting numbers on the scale, but the tension started long before that, as one contestant confronted his trainer for what he perceived as a lack of skill or effort.

"Final Four. It's everything to me." -- Eliminated contestant

Finally, nobody played it stupid. Nobody got distracted by gameplay or made bad decisions to sabotage themselves. As such, we may have gotten our first genuine Weigh-In for weeks and weeks.

Unfortunately, that does nothing to make the eliminations themselves any easier to bear. This week's was especially poignant as it's an absence that will be felt throughout the rest of the competition.

A Heartbreaking Elimination on 'The Biggest Loser' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 6th 2011 1:37AM
Jillian Michaels, 'The Biggest Loser'It's been a rough couple of weeks for the Red Team on 'The Biggest Loser' (Tue., 8PM ET on NBC). After two losses in a row, the only contestant left for Brett Hoebel was Courtney, which put a lot of pressure on her this week. The other three teams each have three members, but in a way that makes it harder for them.

Especially when one of those teams dropped only seven pounds between the three members. Bob Harper was terrified his Blue Team would fumble on the scale after a couple of strong weeks in a row, while a Hollywood night out on the town for one team left their trainer more than concerned.

It was refreshing to see everyone coming to the Weigh-In committed to the process and focused on their weight loss rather than gameplay. But that didn't make the elimination any easier.

"How is this a prize?" --Contestant, after winning a Challenge

Easter was the theme this week, and because NBC is shoving 'Hop' down our throats this week, it was all over this episode of 'The Biggest Loser.' Alison hyped the premiere this weekend, made a sneak preview of the film a prize at one of this week's challenges and even had a massive Easter egg hunt.

But that's not where most of the drama happened. Thankfully, it wasn't from anyone throwing the weigh-in this week ... or did someone?

Caught Cheating on the Diet at 'The Biggest Loser' Ranch (VIDEO)

Rulon, 'The Biggest Loser'It's been a wild few weeks on 'The Biggest Loser' (Tue., 8PM ET on NBC), and nowhere has it been crazier than on the scale. It's gotten to where you just have no idea what to expect from these contestants with their constant gameplay and multiple thrown weigh-ins.

This week's drama, however, came from a secret that's apparently been burning beneath the surface of one contestant's journey through much of the season. No one can deny that Rulon has had impressive numbers on the scale, and more than proven himself a capable athlete in the gym. His Olympic gold medal proved that years ago.

His demons clearly lie more in the area of food. You don't get to nearly 500 pounds, obviously, without some food abuse problems, but usually contestants leave that behind when they come on the ranch.

"This is not a prison!" -- Alison Sweeney

Last week it was all one, big happy family. But this is 'The Biggest Loser.' You didn't expect that to last, did you?

This week, the game changed in a most unexpected way as the show took advantage of the four trainers to divide up the contestants in a way we've never seen before. In doing so, they opened up new challenge possibilities, a whole new strategic element and threw out everything that had come before.

Kaylee's Gameplay Strategy at the Weigh-In Fails on 'The Biggest Loser' (VIDEO)

'The Biggest Loser'Alison Sweeney channeled a little bit of her inner Jeff Probst at this week's weigh-in on 'The Biggest Loser' (Tue., 8PM on NBC). When it became clear that the Green Team was looking to throw in the towel to grant Kaylee her wish to go home, she looked irritated, and then later erupted.

After Ken failed to help her team lose by dropping 7 pounds, Kaylee burst into tears. Brett called the contestants out on the continuous gameplay sabotage on the scales we've seen this season.

"I'm surprised nobody learns their lesson," he said. "You guys keep gameplaying over and over again and it comes back around. We've seen it."

Justin's family got a lot bigger this week as the contestants abandoned red and black and united as the Blue Team. They now could work together toward a single goal: Losing more weight combined this week than they did last week, when they dropped 64 pounds. If they could pull it off, no one would go home.

It was certainly a lofty ambition, and one worth fighting for. As I said last week, the elimination of Sarah seemed to be the last "easy" cut these people were going to be able to make. On both sides of the original colors now all that remained were people they considered family.

Kaylee's Struggles on the Scale Could Impact Everyone on 'The Biggest Loser' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 15th 2011 11:53PM
Kaylee, 'The Biggest Loser'For the first time since the competition began, all of the remaining competitors on 'The Biggest Loser' (Tue., 8PM ET on NBC) were united toward one common purpose. Combined as a new Blue Team, they were challenged to beat their total weight-loss from the week before. If they could do it, nobody would go home.

If they failed, the bottom two would be up for elimination. The number to beat was 64.

But with so many tiny women left in the game, would it be possible? Marci and Kaylee are the smallest two, so they felt the pressure the most. Marci tried to go home last week, and found out this week she was basically at her target weight. Could they do it?
