Taylor Jacobson Leaving Rachel Zoe: Who Should Replace Her?

by Rebecca Paiement, posted Nov 9th 2009 1:00PM
Taylor JacobsonIf and when the 'Rachel Zoe Project' resumes on Bravo, it will have to be without assistant Taylor Jacobson.

PEOPLE is reporting that Zoe has fired Jacobson, effective immediately. Zoe's rep, Carrie Gordon, has since confirmed the news.

Why Jacobson was let go remains to be seen, although, given how often she complained about her job on the show, many would say she had it coming.

Still, Jacobson insists that the decision was solely her own. Hoping to begin her own fashion styling business, Jacobson's Twitter account and emails to colleagues, leaked to Fashionista, reflect her enthusiasm to get out on her own. "I am saddened and exhilarated at the same time to announce my departure," she wrote. "After much thought and consideration, I have decided to take the challenging leap and go off and style on my own."

Which Show Do You Like Better: 'The Hills' or 'The City'?

by Patricia Chui, posted Oct 8th 2009 12:02PM
Heidi Montag and Whitney PortLadies and gentlemen, in this corner (Hollywood) you have 'The Hills,' which lost original star Lauren Conrad but still boasts endless drama as well of two of the biggest villains on reality TV, Heidi and Spencer. In the other corner (New York City), you have 'Hills' offshoot 'The City,' starring LC pal Whitney Port, who's learning to make it on her own in the big, bad ... well, city.

Two sibling shows, two different scenes ... which one do you prefer?

Whitney Port on Her New Job, Roommate and Fashion Line in Season 2 of 'The City'

by Kim Potts, posted Oct 5th 2009 5:33PM
Whitney PortHer pal Lauren Conrad has left 'The Hills' for (relatively) more realistic pastures, but Whitney Port is about to continue her reality TV stint on new episodes of her 'Hills' spin-off, 'The City' (Tue., 10:30PM ET on MTV). Whitney's still in New York City pursuing her fashion industry dreams, but she's doing it with a new job -- sorta -- a new apartment, a new roommate and, via a string of blind dates, new love interests.

Port, who made her New York Fashion Week debut as a designer earlier this month, talked to AOL TV about these latest developments as well as what everyone really wants to know -- how often will she be running into her old frenemy, Olivia Palermo?

New TV on DVD releases this week

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 10th 2009 6:27PM
Super Friends DVDHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

I have to admit that I had no idea what The City was when I saw that season one was coming out on DVD this week (an Amazon exclusive). Is it the show Loving became in the late 90s? No, it's the spinoff of The Hills. Oh yes, let me run out and buy two copies of this. One to play until it wears out, and the other to have on my shelf when I can't play the first one anymore.

I have to pick up some of these Super Friends sets at some point. I really loved that show in the 70s. I think these "lost episodes" might be from the 80s.

  • 90210 - Season 1
  • Adam-12 - Season 3
  • Are You Being Served? - Complete Collection

MTV renews more of the same

by Brad Trechak, posted Jan 27th 2009 12:06PM
MTVMTV has renewed The City (a spin-off of The Hills) and Daddy's Girls ( a spin-off of Run's House). It also greenlit Teen Cribs, whose January special doubled their ratings.

I could go off on another rant about how MTV has long stopped being about music and has since become more like Media-Whore Television, but it seems redundant at this stage.

As someone who mostly watches scripted television either in the comedy or sci-fi genres, I'm wondering what the appeal of these shows are. I can only guess there is some degree of schadenfreude to watching these rich, attention-seeking fools make jackasses of themselves.

I do blame MTV for the reality show genre since they pioneered it with The Real World. It's become such a subculture that it has even spawned classes. But I can't blame them for the type of reality show they promote nowadays because they're just trying to appeal to their key demographic, the "I-want-it-all-and-I-want-it-now" generation

5 Questions With: Whitney Port

by Katy Kroll, posted Dec 24th 2008 6:00AM
Whitney Port"I don't know if you can really top 'The Hills.' It has such an insane amount of drama."

Amid the constant drama of MTV's glossy reality show 'The Hills,' Whitney Port has long lurked in the background as Lauren Conrad's trusted co-worker and confidante, preferring to seek not the spotlight, but (gasp) an actual career in the fashion industry.

Now it's finally Port's time to shine on 'The City,' a spin-off that follows the fashionista to New York City after she lands a job with Diane von Furstenberg and falls in with a whole new crew. But leaving L.A. -- and LC -- behind hasn't been her only recent adventure; she's also launched her own clothing line and shown up on HBO's 'Entourage.'

With her new series premiering on Dec. 29, Port took time out of her hectic schedule to chat with us about guilty pleasures, whether or not 'The Hills' is scripted and the challenges of navigating 'The City.'
