'Daily Show': Sarah Palin Stands By Her Version of Paul Revere Story (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 7th 2011 5:36AM
Sarah Palin, 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'Sarah Palin is one thing for certain, and that is certain. She is absolutely determined to never admit she was wrong, to stand by her convictions, her family and her words. And that is one of the reasons people are so divisive about her, according to 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central).

Jon Stewart played the clip of Palin describing Paul Revere's famous ride to the media. She said, "He who warned the British that they weren't going to be taking away our arms by ringing those bells and making sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells."

Now clearly she's got the general idea of it right, and she probably has the story closer to accuracy than many Americans could come up with on the spot. It's how she responded later when she was advised she'd "messed up about Paul Revere."

Tim Tebow Talks About His Missionary Upbringing on 'The Daily Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 3rd 2011 4:21AM
Tim Tebow, 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'Sports fans know Tim Tebow as a quarterback for the Denver Broncos. But the 23-year old has led a pretty full life before professional football, as detailed in his autobiography, 'Through My Eyes' and on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central).

"A lot of people might say you want to wait 'til you're 24 to write an autobiography," Jon Stewart quipped, but Tebow really has lived an interesting enough two decades to justify a book. He spent the first five years of his life in the Phillippines with his parents, who were missionaries.

Since then, he's been back countless times and even helps support an orphanage. In fact, his success has led to him establishing a foundation that supports more than 600 orphans there now. It's an amazing thing to see someone so young making such a difference.

Kathie Lee and Hoda Joke About Anthony Weiner Twitter Controversy (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 2nd 2011 1:15PM
Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifrord on 'Today'Earlier this week, a controversy erupted around New York congressman Anthony Weiner and a photo sent from his Twitter account to a woman in Seattle. The photo was a close-up of a man's lower abdominal area (or "junk") in gray underwear. It has triggered an avalanche of puns and punditry, and this morning on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC), Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb took it as a prompt to talk about genitals in general.

Jon Stewart, a friend of Weiner's, offered his defense on 'The Daily Show,' saying he knows Weiner well enough to know that wasn't him in the photo. That caused Kotb to wonder who pays attention to what their genitals look like. "Men," said Gifford. "They've seen it from every angle and they just can't get enough."

Taking it one disturbing step further, Gifford said she wouldn't be able to pick her own genitals out of a lineup, and once more, she's not sure she's ever seen her own. We hope no one has her Twitter password.

Jon Stewart's Not Sure Donald Trump Is a True New Yorker After Pizza Debacle (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 2nd 2011 5:42AM
'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'Jon Stewart may not be Italian, but he brought out the Italian New Yorker inside him to defend his beloved city on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central). The offense was virtually everything to do with Donald Trump's lunch with Sarah Palin.

The former Governor of Alaska brought her bus tour to New York City, where Trump decided to treat her and her family to an authentic New York pizza lunch. Only, according to Stewart, he blew it in every sense of the word, from the pizza joint he chose, to the way he ate his pizza.

"It's New York City," he joked. "I hate to use this term this close to Ground Zero, but we're a bit of a Pizza Mecca."

Jon Stewart Threatened Jimmy Fallon When Fallon First Got 'Late Night' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 1st 2011 5:18AM
Jimmy Fallon, 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'By now, Jimmy Fallon has established 'Late Night' as a cool place for fun and good times, but he wasn't always so confident and sure of himself. But, as was revealed on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), Jon Stewart may not be the best person to talk to when you're feeling that way.

Fallon said that on the first day of 'Late Night,' Stewart was the only one who called him about it. But it wasn't to congratulate him, or to wish him luck. Stewart said, "Don't think you can come after me, kid."

And, according to Stewart now, he even added, "I will destroy you."

Ben Stein Gives Terrible And Ridiculous Defense For Dominique Strauss-Kahn (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 20th 2011 4:53AM
'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'Dominique Strauss-Kahn is going to need a good legal defense for the case against him. But, as evidenced on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), Ben Stein should probably not be a part of it.

Kahn was a front-runner for the French Presidency until he allegedly attacked and sexually assaulted a maid in a hotel. Obviously, he's innocent until proven guilty, and Stein had just the kind of ridiculous support he needed.

On the issue of Strauss-Kahn forcing the maid to perform sexual acts with him, Stein wrote in a statement, "How? Did he have a gun? Did he have a knife? He's a short fat old man." Then, he asked if anyone could list any economists who'd committed violent sex crimes.

Jon Stewart Discusses Two Pending Armageddons on 'The Daily Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 19th 2011 4:43AM
'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'Apparently, the world is going to end on Saturday, May 21, 2011. But it's not necessarily for Biblical reasons, as Jon Stewart pointed out on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central).

"The world isn't ending May 21st because of God's wrath. It's ending because of a force far more powerful -- the international bond market," he explained.

The U.S. apparently hit its "debt ceiling" -- a bad thing -- on Monday, though fears of an ensuing "Armageddon" proved groundless.

The other apocalypse, due to happen this Saturday, has been predicted by an 89-year old radio host. Now, in order to stave off financial crises until the debt ceiling can be raised -- because that's how you solve these kinds of problems -- the government is taking money from the U.S. pension funds.

Jon Stewart Can't Resist Making Fun of the Schwarzenegger Scandal (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 18th 2011 5:07AM
'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'If you believe Jon Stewart for a second when he says he's unhappy about the Arnold Schwarzenegger scandal breaking, you are out of your mind. Sure, those were his words on 'The Daily Show With Jon Stewart' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), but he also admitted it's a comedic goldmine.

He said he was glad the news of recent weeks was behind us so the show could get back to its core mission: "Discussing the important issues of the day." But then he cut immediately to a news clip breaking the story that Schwarzenegger admitted to fathering a child with a member of his household staff more than a decade ago.

"Damn you, nearly irresistable comic possibilities," he lamented. "Funny accent. Built-in movie poster fun."

Jon Stewart Mocks Osama Bin Laden's Secret Porn Stash on 'The Daily Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 17th 2011 3:32AM
'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'Jon Stewart described the discovery of a stash of pornography in Osama Bin Laden's compound as a gift for 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central). His staff was giddy with excitement, writing jokes and making graphics for their planned coverage.

But first there was the matter of how NBC News broke the story. "NBC News can now confirm that a stash of pornography was found inside the terror leader's lair," Martin Bashir said.

It was the "can now confirm" part Stewart took issue with. "There was some talk in our morning editorial meeting as to whether or not it could be classified as erotica," Stewart mocked. "And then we saw a picture of a woman ******* a horse. So, we believe this be straight-up porn."

Jon Stewart Thinks Kristen Wiig Invented Her 'Bridesmaids' Writing Partner (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 13th 2011 4:47AM
Kristen Wiig, 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'Kristen Wiig is understandably excited about the premiere of her first foray into screenwriting on the big screen Friday, May 13, 2011. So she must have been pleased when Jon Stewart told her that 'Bridesmaids' was rating very well on Rotten Tomatoes on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central).

Of course, acclaim and box office receipts don't always synch up, so she'll have to sweat it through the weekend, but at least Stewart helped her find a few laughs to break the tension for a bit. He was particularly delighted when she talked about writing the film with her partner Annie Mumolo.

"Now you've made that name up," he said, but she insisted Mumolo was real. Of course, Wiig also said Mumolo lived in a castle and could fly, but she is real.

Albert Brooks Admits He's Still Obsessed With Kate Middleton on 'The Daily Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 12th 2011 4:17AM
Albert Brooks, 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'The death of Osama Bin Laden did a lot to overshadow the blanket coverage of the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. But Albert Brooks isn't over it yet. On 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), he admitted he "can't stop thinking about this Kate Middleton."

"I dream about her," he said. "I think about her. I want to be her first Jew."

Brooks couldn't even take time to talk about his new book '2030: The Real Story of What Happens to America.' It was as if he simply had to get this obsession of his off his chest, and Jon Stewart's show was just the place to do it.

Will Ferrell Continues Gloria Allred's Display of Inappropriate Acts With a Bat (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 11th 2011 3:08AM
Will Ferrell, 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'Jon Stewart has been having fun with Gloria Allred's recent press conference regarding the anti-gay accusations against Atlanta Braves pitching coach Roger McDowell on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central). His main point of contention surrounds a masturbatory simulation with a baseball bat that McDowell allegedly did in front of a family.

The problem, as Stewart sees it, is that Allred had the same act performed at her press conference in front of the same two young girls who allegedly witnessed McDowell simulating the sex act on a baseball bat, which led to the lawsuit she's trying.

Jon Stewart Imagines a New McDonalds Ad Campaign on 'The Daily Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 6th 2011 4:16AM
Jon Meacham, 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'We don't even know if Jon Meacham's latest project had been started when he was booked on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central).

The Random House executive editor was on to talk about his contributions to a re-release of Shelby Foote's massive trilogy 'The Civil War: A Narrative.'

But then, after the death of Bin Laden, he put together what he called "an instant eBook." 'Beyond Bin Laden' is a compilation of essays written since Bin Laden's death this past Sunday, so it truly is remarkable for it to have been turned around so quickly.

The book will be available for pre-orders Friday, May 6, 2011 and is expected to be released next week.

TV 101: Some of TV's Most Memorable Departures

by Dr. Ryan Vaughan, PhD (no, seriously), posted May 5th 2011 3:00PM
Steve Carell, 'The Office'If I learned anything from Bon Jovi in the '80s it was that an object's slipperiness had a direct correlation with that same object's relative wetness. But more importantly, I learned that we should never say goodbye.

However, following through with such a sentiment -- never say goodbye -- is much more difficult than scrawling it across your bulging crotch on an 8-by-10 -inch glossy for a hysterical groupie.

The truth is, we have to say goodbye -- especially in television -- no matter how complicated, emotional or difficult that might be. Some say goodbye too soon, some hang on far too long, and some depart at just the right time. It's our job to make peace with those goodbyes.

With the recent departure of Michael Scott from 'The Office,' I started to ponder other televisual vacancies and the interesting circumstances surrounding them.

Jon Stewart: We See Gore Every Day in Primetime, Why Not Release Bin Laden Photos? (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 5th 2011 3:40AM
'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'With the White House having decided to not release the pictures of Osama bin Laden's body, Jon Stewart responded to the various news pundits saying the pictures were too gory or gruesome on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central).

"Have you met us?" he asked. He then went on to talk about our current obsession with the crime procedural and some of the gruesome images we see on prime time television all the time.

"From 8PM on, every show on television we watch begins with an internal tracking shot of a gaping wound above someone's left eye pulling out only to reveal half a hooker in a dumpster discovered by a child on a bicycle," Stewart said.
