Airlines should try to keep The Loop on the air
MediaPost pretty effectively goes through
some of the reasons
why the airline industry should do whatever it can to keep The Loop on the air. The show is all about the
airline industry, and features a lead character that is enthusiastic about the job, even if he doesn't do it too often.
More than that, it features great opportunities for product placement by airline companies looking to pull their
reputation out of the gutter. The constant chatter about the industry leaves plenty of room for casual name-dropping of
competitors to the fictional airline the show's characters work for.
Of course Bob might have some problems with the show sticking around based on his last review. Then again I think we should devote ourselves to encouraging that which irritates Bob Sassone. Sounds like a mission statment if I ever heard one.

So, what happened on The Loop last night?
So I was all set to review The Loop
last night, but for some reason I thought it was on FOX at 9:30 instead of 8:30 and I missed it. Yeah, I know, and this
is coming from the guy who does the What's On Tonight posts every damn day.Anything happen on the show last night? Did it suddenly become hysterical and brilliant? Was it canceled and replaced by reruns of Stacked?
From Michael to T-Bag: Entertainment Weekly in 60 seconds
A complete guide to all the characters on FOX's
Prison Break, from (as EW
puts it) "antihero Michael to scuzzy T-Bag." And let's hope that's the last time I have to type the words "scuzzy T-Bag."- Michael Slezak gives some advice to the remaining American Idol hopefuls (Paris has to watch her attitude, Chris needs to do more classic rock, etc).
- A guide to the greatest slackers in TV history. Wait a second: how can the guy from The Loop get on this list after only two episodes?
- Guess what? The Lost producers hate all the reruns too!
The Loop: Pilot
I'm willing to give this new FOX comedy a
chance, but right now it just seems like half Arrested Development (wacky
group of people, on air text to explain things, use of handheld cameras), half...well, every other sitcom that's been
on the air since 1982 (group of friends, they hang out somewhere, the hero of the show likes the cute girl who only
sees him as a friend, etc). And maybe just a dash of The Office (just a dash
though). But here's my prediction: it won't last the season.
What's on tonight: Survivor, Veronica Mars, Invasion, Bones, Top Chef
For some reason, Bones is now on at 8pm on
FOX, and it's followed by the results show of American Idol and the premiere of the new sitcom The
Loop (which is getting some good reviews).
- CBS has Survivor at 8 (because of the annoying March Madness coverage), followed by repeats of Criminal Minds and CSI: NY.
- ABC has a new George Lopez, a new Freddie, a repeat Lost (again!), and a new Invasion.
- NBC has another special edition of The Biggest Loser (how can they all be special?), then two repeats of Law and Order.
- The WB has a repeat One Tree Hill at 8, followed by a repeat Beauty and the Geek.
- UPN has new eps of America's Next Top Model and Veronica Mars.
- American Life has I Spy, followed by The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Superman.
- 8pm movies: AMC has The Princess Bride, while FOX Movie Channel has Big Trouble In Little China and FLIX has Boyz N The Hood.
- At 9, HGTV has a new ep of I Want
That!
- At 10, A&E has two new eps of the reality show Spying on Myself.
- Bravo has the new reality show Top Chef at 10.
- Also at 10: FX has a new episode of Black. White (it's repeated at 11).
- At 10:30, Comedy Central has a new Drawn Together.
New (and returning) programs for the week of March 12-18
All
sorts of television shows are new or returning this week. Some highlights include, of course, The Sopranos and the controversial Big Love tonight on HBO. Personally, I'm looking forward to the new Julia Louis-Dreyfus comedy, The New Adventures of Old Christine. I'm hoping she can break the Seinfeld curse this time around. The promos aren't all that promising but I like
Louis-Dreyfus enough to give it a shot on Monday. Here's what's up:
- The Sopranos, Sundays @ 9 pm on HBO (Sixth season premieres March 12)
- They're back.
- Big Love, Sundays @ 10 pm on HBO (premieres March 12)
- Bill Paxton stars as a polygamist in Salt Lake City who has three wives, seven children and three adjoining houses. Also stars Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chloe Sevigny, Ginnifer Goodwin. Great tagline: Polygamy Loves Company.
Kochalka song chosen for The Loop
Comic artist and independent musician James Kochalka, best known for
his work on the diary/comic American Elf --or perhaps you know his song "Monkeyvs. Robot" one of the
best songs ever written about the eternal struggle between a simian and an automaton-- has had his song "Hockey
Monkey" chosen to be the theme to the new series The Loop on FOX. According to FOX's Web page for the show, the show will be about people in
their early twenties facing life struggles in Chicago. That doesn't sound even remotely interesting, but at least
it'll have a kick ass theme song.
