Lauren Alaina Tells Piers Morgan 'America's Got Talent' Turned Her Down Twice (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted May 27th 2011 4:37AM
Piers Morgan and Lauren Alaina on 'The Tonight Show''American Idol' runner-up Lauren Alaina stopped by 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC) and revealed some shocking news about her previous attempts to enter a TV singing contest.

Host Jay Leno and fellow guest Piers Morgan began by asking Lauren about her relationship with 'Idol' champ Scotty McCreery. After insisting that they're just friends, Lauren summed-up the situation: "Everyone wants us to like each other but we just can't seem to do it!"

Then, discussing this week's 'American Idol' finale, Morgan spoke from experience as a veteran competition show judge and told Lauren: "I thought you were the better singer."

And that's when she landed the zinger. "I tried out for your show and didn't get it. Twice!" As Morgan reeled in surprise, she repeated that yes, she auditioned for 'America's Got Talent' -- not just once, but twice -- and "I didn't make it past the first round."

Ricky Martin Discusses His Early Struggles as a Closeted Gay Sex Symbol (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 4th 2011 6:05AM
Ricky Martin, 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'Ricky Martin is aware that a lot of people weren't surprised when he finally came out and announced he was gay. As detailed in his autobiography, 'Me,' it was more about his own internal struggles.

"What I was feeling, according to what I had in my mind, was evil," he told Jay Leno on 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC) referring to societal and religious expectations.

What made his early struggles with his sexuality more difficult was when he was the Ricky Martin of 'Livin' La Vida Loca' fame. "I was the sex symbol and I needed to dance and I needed to make girls crazy and I couldn't say that I was gay," he said. "It was a lot of struggle."

Chelsea Handler Gives Jay Leno a Birthday Kiss (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 29th 2011 7:05AM
Chelsea Handler and Jay Leno on 'The Tonight Show'Jay Leno was an early supporter of Chelsea Handler's career, and now that she's got two TV shows, an NBC sitcom pilot in the works, a new book and a new stand-up tour, she's not forgetting her friends. Handler was on Thursday's 'Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM on NBC) to help Leno celebrate his birthday, the third birthday in a row, Handler noted, that they had been together.

"I was thinking about giving you something for your birthday, like a birthday kiss," said Handler. "And then I decided, forget it." She wound up giving Leno a birthday kiss anyway, a quick peck on the lips. Leno then pretended to fan himself from the heat of it.

Handler thought it was about time, considering how long the pair have known each other. "If we're not going to have sex, we might as well kiss," she joked. Leno was glad they waited. It was apparently worth the wait for Handler, too.

TV Funnyman Ross Mathews Talks Shedding Pounds for His New Gig with Jenny Craig

by Maggie Furlong, posted Mar 15th 2011 7:30PM
Ross Mathews, Jenny Craig's newest spokespersonRoss Mathews has gone from Jay Leno's jolly intern, to a jolly 'Tonight Show' correspondent, to 'Chelsea Lately''s jolly roundtable guest, but recently, he's been dropping the jolly. Although he'll never lose his smile or that signature sing-songy voice, he has lost quite a few pounds thanks to Jenny Craig.

If you follow Ross at all -- on his blog, on Twitter or on any of his TV gigs -- you know all about his struggle with weight, and (hello!) his new slimmer physique of late. Obviously someone at Jenny Craig noticed as well, because he's been crowned their latest spokesperson.

I caught up with the funnyman to find out all about how much he's lost so far, and how much he's got to reach his goal, and he shared stories about his weight loss struggles and what a difference this program has finally made.

He also dished about the company he's now in -- with the likes of Valerie Bertinelli, Carrie Fisher and his good pal Sara Rue -- and what his version of the "bikini reveal" will be when he reaches his goal. "I don't know what the male equivalent is. I guess a G-string? A thong? Let me just tell you right now: not happening."

And for you fans of Chelsea Handler's late-night show, he also teased a bit about the pilot he shot for E! with 'Chelsea' staffer Heather McDonald. The series has gotten some good buzz ... despite its lack of anyone with the last name Kardashian.

So if you're pleased with your own appearance, enjoy this for the giggle-filled stories of a truly happy man. And if you feel like you're getting a little too jolly yourself, Ross' words of wisdom are nothing if not realistic: "I'm not the only one. I think the majority of us struggle with weight." Chris Medina on 'American idol'The judges on 'American Idol' routinely crush the hopes and dreams of aspiring singers, but last night it all proved too much for Jennifer Lopez as she broke down in tears after sending home early favorite Chris Medina.

But although Medina's 'Idol' journey is over, his TV one isn't. It's been announced that Jay Leno has won the battle of the talk show guest bookers, and Medina will perform on 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno' Friday.

Rickey Minor and The Tonight Show Band will accompany Medina on "What Are Words" -- a song inspired by Medina's love story. The track, which was written and produced by Rodney Jerkins, will be available online later today.

Take a tour through the past year of TV and relive some of the best moments the medium had to offer in our 10 Most Viewed Videos of the Year. We'd all do well to study these fan favorites and commit them to long-term memory. Okay, maybe not. But it's nice to dream.

Javier Bardem's Most Embarrassing Job -- Playing Superman on a 1980s TV Show (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 23rd 2010 4:30AM
Javier Bardem's Most Embarrassing Job -- Playing Superman on a 1980s TV ShowActor Javier Bardem is on top of the world these days. He's married to Penélope Cruz; he's won an Oscar -- who could ask for anything more?

But on 'The Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC), we learned that things weren't always so peachy for the actor. Once upon a time, he had to wear form-fitting tights and run around to a "zany" soundtrack.

It was Jay Leno's fault for bringing the whole thing up: "You never dressed maybe as ... Superman?" the host said. "Aw, jeez!" Javier replied. Yes, it's true. Back in 1989, when he was starting out as an actor, Bardem appeared on the Spanish comedy show 'El Dia Por Delante.' And yes, he had to wear a Superman costume. Javier watched, semi-mortified, as Leno replayed the ancient clip.

Emma Stone Had an Asthma Attack While Filming a Sex Scene (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 22nd 2010 4:22AM
Emma Stone Had an Asthma Attack While Filming a Sex SceneActress Emma Stone is currently starring in the film 'Easy A,' which is a remake of the classic novel 'The Scarlet Letter.' In both the book and the movie, the letter "A" stands for adultery. But in Emma's case, it just stands for asthma. One of these words is kind of sexy, and the other equals a common form of lung disease. And that sort of sums up Emma's problem.

On 'The Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC), Emma told Jay Leno how she learned she had asthma, and how she learned that she might have a few difficulties with the whole "sex" thing.

While filming a simulated sex scene for 'Easy A,' the actress had a bad asthma attack and had to be given oxygen. Apparently, she was doing a lot of "jumping up and down" during the scene. "Wow," Leno said.

Larry King Does Stand-Up Comedy on 'The Tonight Show' Lots of comedians have used 'The Tonight Show' as a launching-pad to stardom -- including David Letterman and, obviously, Jay Leno. Yes, it's true. Now that he's retired from 'Larry King Live,' the longtime CNN host has expressed an interest in starting a career as a stand-up comic. We swear we are not making this up. Emily Blunt Discusses Her Fear of Santa Claus (VIDEO)

Emily Blunt Discusses Her Fear of Santa ClausOn 'The Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM on NBC), actress Emily Blunt revealed her secret fear of Santa Claus -- or "Father Christmas," as she called him in her charming English accent. But why? Doesn't everyone love Santa?

In turns out that Emily used to be frightened by any type of costume, including Santa's outfit. That's odd -- she's an actress, so her job is to wear costumes.

Still, that's Emily's fear, and she's sticking to it. And so, Jay Leno ran down a list of other things that frighten the actress. Apparently, Ms. Blunt was also terrified during a trip to Disney World (this was another costume-related thing). And her other big fear is ... circus clowns.

It's Jack Black vs. Michael Bublé, in a Battle for Best Singer of All Time (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 15th 2010 3:00AM
It's Jack Black vs. Michael Bublé, in a Battle for Best Singer of All Time"You guys know each other?" Jay Leno said. Yeah, they've met before. And they've got a bit of a rivalry going on. And so, on the new 'Tonight Show' (11:35PM ET on NBC), the two legendary singers of our generation -- Grammy Award-winner Michael Bublé and, um, Jack Black -- squared off in a battle for supremacy.

The two vocalists recalled a previous "sing-off" encounter that they had on an Australian talk show. Next, inspired by Black's performance in 'School of Rock,' the pair tried to determine who was more "hardcore" -- singing-wise, that is. Because really, you're not hardcore ... unless you live hardcore.

So, who would be the winner? Well, to be honest, they were both a little off-key, as Bublé screeched awkwardly in an effort to imitate Jack's, um, soaring vocal abilities.

Conan O'Brien on Jay Leno: 'There's Nothing For Us to Talk About' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 14th 2010 6:08AM
Conan O'Brien on Jay Leno: 'There's Nothing For Us to Talk About' Someday, in the distant feature, TV viewers may still be talking about the Conan O'Brien vs. Jay Leno battle. Ages and ages hence, we might still be discussing the feud with a sigh -- talking about how two roads diverged, and about how two men feuded over the same talk show.

... But on 'Larry King Live' (weeknights, 9PM ET on CNN), Conan tried to emphasize that he was already over the whole 'Tonight Show' thing. When Larry King asked O'Brien if he had talked to Jay Leno recently, Conan made this reply: "No. ... There's nothing, really, for either of us to talk about."

So Conan was "over it" -- but was he over it in a "I don't want to think about it anymore" kind of way? Or has he made his peace with the whole affair?

Mark Wahlberg Is So Over Justin Bieber (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 14th 2010 2:57AM
Mark Wahlberg Is So Over Justin BieberGosh, people can be so fickle these days. Mark Wahlberg used to have a picture of himself and teen heartthrob Justin Bieber. But he revealed on 'The Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC) that the photo has been torn down. No way! Say it ain't so, Mr. Wahlberg! So, what was the problem with Justin Bieber?

Well, as Mark revealed to Jay Leno, the photo actually belonged to his 7-year-old daughter Ella Rae. Like so many other young girls, she was infatuated with Justin Bieber -- which led to Wahlberg appearing in a picture with the singer.

Then, Ella Rae heard that Justin had kissed "some girl -- Selena Gomez, or something." According to her dad, Ella was "all upset" and ripped the photograph down. Aw. Well, first crushes can be difficult. Now, Mark says, Ella likes Mitchel Musso, "or some other guy that I'm gonna have to strangle." (Wahlberg was vague on the details.)

Helen Mirren Gives In to Her 'Bad Angel,' Kisses Jay Leno on the LipsWho says that the British are reserved? Actress Helen Mirren may have an official title given to her by the Queen of England, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have a naughty aspect. And while talking with Jay Leno, Mirren showed off her "bad" side, giving the talk show host a full kiss on the lips.

During her appearance on 'The Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC), the actress discussed her latest film role in the movie 'Red' -- an action flick where she gets to shoot a lot of machine guns. Ms. Mirren mentioned that she was "conflicted" about firing weapons in a movie: "My 'good angel' was saying, this is not very nice, Helen ... "

Next, she gave in to the influence of her "bad angel" -- and went in an unexpectedly sultry direction.

Chris Colfer Got Revenge on a Real-Life Bully -- With a GPS and a Pile of Cow Manure

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 7th 2010 2:15AM
Chris Colfer Got Revenge on a Real-Life Bully -- With a GPS and a Pile of Cow ManureOn the musical drama 'Glee,' Chris Colfer plays a gay teenager who must deal with bullying in his high school. But in real life, Colfer was a skinny gay teen as well -- and had to deal with an actual bully. On 'The Tonight Show,' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC), Colfer told host Jay Leno how he did it.

Chris got paired up with the bully during a class assignment, the goal of which was to find a location using a GPS device. One partner would punch in a coordinate, and then the other partner would have to walk to it. Colfer described his bullying partner as a real "[EXPLETIVE DELETED.]" "Every time I'd walk by him the hall ... he'd say something." So Chris exacted his long simmering-revenge, by hacking into the GPS and programming in a new location -- one that led the bully to the top of a mountain of cow manure.
