For the last time, Everwood is not coming back!

by Bob Sassone, posted Jun 2nd 2006 2:20PM
EverwoodI watched Everwood its first season, and found it to be quite good. Very well acted and sincere and it had a different feel than other WB type teen dramas (for one thing, it wasn't really a teen drama - it focused on the adults as much as the kids), and even though I lost track of the show after that first year, I was sad to see it go. There was a glimmer of hope that the show might get a 7th Heaven-like last minute renewal last week, but now it looks like it's gone for good.

But Ausiello says you should keep going with your "Save Everwood" campaigns.

Invasion going to the CW?

by Bob Sassone, posted May 14th 2006 9:50AM
Invasion There's been no official word yet (ABC unveils its new fall schedule this Tuesday), but SyFy Portal is reporting that they have heard from inside sources that Invasion will not be renewed by ABC and that the new CW network might be interested in picking it up. I wonder if this would have any effect on Supernatrual or Smallville. Nah, I'm sure there's more than enough room on the network for all three.

Whatever happens, if it turns out that Invasion sticks around for another year and Surface doesn't, I'll be pissed.

Kristen Bell isn't worried about renewal

by Bob Sassone, posted Apr 30th 2006 10:30PM
Veronica MarsFrom the many e-mails and comments we've gotten here at TV Squad, we know that you really want to see Veronica Mars be one of the shows that survives the merger of UPN and the WB into the CW. Many are worried, the show won't be renewed, but not star Kristen Bell:

"We've gotten phone calls and optimism from the people that we need to get it from [CW President of Enertainment] Dawn Ostroff and Les Moonves have been very involved, saying 'don't worry.' They have never hidden their support."

Gilmore Girls: A Vineyard Valentine

Gilmore Girls: A Vineyard Valentine
Juuuuust when you think everything's going well in the world of Gilmore, things always get thrown in the mix that sends the ship a bit off course. Not completely turned around, mind you, just a little off. But you know what happens when a ship just veers even slightly from its designated course; eventually it runs up against a sandbar no one ever saw coming.

That's what I thought of when I saw this episode, which mainly takes place at the Huntzberger residence on Martha's Vineyard. Unlike some of the recent past episodes, there isn't multiple plots swirling around all over the place. For once, we're just concentrating on Lorelai and Luke, Rory and Logan, and very little else. Heck, the teaser at the beginning of the episode was more complicated than the episode itself, setting things up by summarizing everything that's happened in the last year in two quick minutes.

Smallville: The Tomb

by Ryan j Budke, posted Feb 10th 2006 12:17PM
allison mack; smallville; chloe sullivanI was afraid of this. Every other season of Smallville has suffered from this same type of ailment. There are these amazing, poignant episodes that crop up a couple of times a year (normally in November, February and May; go figure), and the rest of the season is a lot of fluff and filler. This season, as a whole, has been amazing. Even the episodes that weren't the cornerstones had huge character development that was being used later on. For the first time, this felt like an "epic", like the huge origin of Superman, instead of his weekly comic book adventures as a young man. Everything seemed to build to Reckoning, the 100th episode two weeks ago, and since that amazing event, the show has been, well, pretty "meh". On with the show!

Smallville: Vengeance

by Ryan j Budke, posted Feb 3rd 2006 2:25PM
There have been few single episodes of a show that have emotionally drained me as much as last week's Reckoning. I thought the first half was perfect, and the second was perfectly devastating. I love Kristin Kreuk, and Lana's character (a lot more than most), but if they could have left it with her dying, I think it would have shown some real cajones and really splintered Smallville from every other Superman mythos out there. The anger that Clark and Lex have towards each other would be tangible. They could have played with Johnathan struggling to do the right thing with his power, wanting to destroy the Luthor's, but still do the right thing. Don't get me wrong; last week's episode was great, and everyone's performances were perfect. I just think an even bigger change to the status quo would have been to let Lana die. So, on to this week's episode. Much like after any loss of a loved one, everyone seemed to just be going through the motions. It was an OK episode, but it could have happened two weeks ago and still been in place. On with the show!

Supernatural: what the heck happened?

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 11th 2006 3:46PM

Hey kids, it's time to play another exciting game of "Help Bob Recap Because His Cable Went Out!" (We'll have to shorten the title if this game ever makes it to television.)

Last night I watched the first five minutes of Supernatural, and then my cable went out. Oh, sure, I could write a stunning recap of those first five minutes, but something tells me that it wouldn't do the episode justice. So, can you help us out? No need to go into long detail, but maybe a quick recap in the comments below would help us and other readers who might have missed it.

I can always catch the repeat this weekend, but by then doing a review here would be kinda silly.
