Jodie Foster Can't Defend Mel Gibson While Promoting Their Film on 'Late Show' (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted May 6th 2011 3:16AM
Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson have a friendly relationship dating back 15 years. Recently, they worked together on the new film, 'The Beaver,' which Foster directed. But it looks like that friendship may have taken quite a hit from his more recent antics in the public eye, based on her remarks on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS).Before David Letterman even finished asking her if she could defend his actions, she vehemently said, "No!"
"He's wonderful in the film," she said, carefully not saying much of anything about his character as a person. It must be an incredibly awkward position for her to be in. Of course, after the investment and work that went into 'The Beaver,' she wants it to be a success.
Jodie Foster Defends 'Beaver' Co-Star Mel Gibson on 'GMA' (VIDEO)

On 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM ET on ABC), Jodie Foster defended Mel Gibson, her co-star in 'The Beaver.' Foster referred to Gibson as an "incredible friend" and said that his performance deserves to be seen despite his several highly-publicized rants."[Gibson is] an extraordinary actor and I don't think I've ever seen him give a performance like this that is so deep and so raw," Foster said, referring to Gibson's role in the dark comedy as a deeply troubled man who uses a beaver hand puppet as his sole form of communication.

The folks at our sister site Cinematical are working hard to give you news and reviews of the best -- and worst -- the silver screen has to offer. Here are some of their musings on the latest blockbusters, indies, and everything in between:- My Big Fat Greek Wedding stars, Nia Vardalos and John Corbett are teaming up again in a new rom-com.
- I had absolutely no recollection of The Fugitive's trailer, but watching it again makes me understand why Cinematical included it as a Terrific Trailer.
- While a good movie, I found Lars and the Real Girl to be quite disturbing. So the fact that The Beaver is being compared to it, involves a hand puppet and may star Jim Carrey? Frankly, I'm terrified.
- I haven't gotten a chance to see Wolverine yet, but according to this Cinematical poll, it wasn't great. What did you think?
- I'm not exactly waiting for the G.I. Joe movie with bated breath, but in case you are, here's the trailer in HD.
