Cathy Falters at the Marathon Finish Line on 'The Big C' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 27th 2011 6:45AM
'The Big C' - 'Crossing the Line'In learning to let Lee go this season, Cathy has decided to live life to the fullest while she still has it on 'The Big C' (Mon., 10:30PM ET on Showtime). In this season finale, that meant picking up Lee's plans to run in the New Year's Eve marathon.

She actually wound up picking it up quite literally, as she missed the deadline to enter, and took his number and ran it as him. But while Cathy was training for and running the marathon, she was missing some pretty serious stuff going down in the family, and this time it didn't involve Adam. In fact, Adam seems to be getting himself together.

What To Watch: TV Picks for Sept 26 - Oct 2

by Laura Prudom, posted Sep 25th 2011 2:00PM
Terra NovaNote: Premieres are still debuting, so I'd like to emphasize the "picks" portion of the title and remind you that I'm only spotlighting a selection of the week's most noteworthy offerings. For a full listing of new and returning shows and their timeslots, check out our fall premiere grid or alphabetized list to plan your schedule.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26

'Terra Nova' (8PM ET, Fox)
series premiere
The long-awaited, super-hyped and mega-expensive sci-fi drama finally lands on Fox this week, but is it worthy of the buzz? Surprisingly, yes. Some of the dialogue is leaden and lord knows how many times we've seen the "obnoxious teenager" archetype on genre shows, but I have a certain fondness for "event" TV, and this action-packed premiere is engaging enough and sets up plenty of potential mysteries for the season ahead. Gather your whole family for the spectacle.

'Hart of Dixie' (9PM ET, The CW) series premiere
Following the return of 'Gossip Girl,' this 'Everwood'-esque drama brings a little heart to The CW (pardon the pun) and gave me a serious case of the warm fuzzies. If you can get over the (admittedly large) hurdle of buying Rachel Bilson as a doctor, you'll probably appreciate its guileless, small town charm. Few shows can replicate the fond, nostalgic vibe that used to be The WB's stock in trade with shows like 'Gilmore Girls' and '7th Heaven,' so I'll admit that I'm kind of addicted. Whether it's more realistic than dinosaurs, though ... you'll have to draw your own conclusions.

Lee Tells Cathy He's Ready to Go, on 'The Big C' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 20th 2011 6:15AM
'The Big C' - 'The Darkest Day'When Lee called Cathy to be by his side on 'The Big C' (Mon., 10:30PM ET on Showtime), you could hear in his voice why he wanted her to come over. He knew it was his time, and no one wants to go alone.

The bond that Lee and Cathy shared transcended the clinical trial and became something so much more powerful. Lee called Cathy his "soulmate," and perhaps it is that level of connection that allowed some of his energy and enthusiasm for adventure and excitement to make its way into Cathy's heart.

It was a beautifully written scene, with a truly harrowing performance by Hugh Dancy. Acting opposite Laura Linney, the pair made every beat of his last moments feel authentic and absolutely heartbreaking. Dancy doesn't do a lot of TV, but he's certainly welcome to come back any time.

Cathy's Not Ready for Lee to Give Up Fighting on 'The Big C' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 13th 2011 6:10AM
'The Big C' - 'Fight or Flight'Last week, Shawn disappeared from his home on 'The Big C' (Mon., 10:30PM ET on Showtime). While he didn't return this week, a near-scare with a dead homeless man made Cathy panic about losing the people she cares about. And since she can't do anything about Shawn until he's found or returns, she turned her attention to Lee.

While she's had a good response to the treatments, Lee's body hasn't responded at all and he's progressing toward death with his cancer. Meanwhile, Cathy found out about Paul's scheme with Myk to make money on the side, so used some of that ill-gotten gain to get Lee a ticket to Germany.

Adam Redeems His Character by Helping Poppy Out on 'The Big C' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 30th 2011 5:26AM
'The Big C' - 'How Do You Feel?'Adam has been in some desperate need of redemption on 'The Big C' (Mon., 10:30PM ET on Showtime). His behavior has been so abhorrent, even being a teenager wasn't enough to forgive it. But he went a little way in finding it by helping a friend out this week.

Poppy may be an odd friend, seeing as how she's closer to Cathy's age than Adam's, but she seems to be interested in him genuinely as a friend, and she also seems to desperately need someone in her life.

When she dragged Adam to her 20-year high school reunion, he found out that she was a rather tortured and teased goth girl back in high school, and he also finds he's able to step up and help her save face with all the mean girls who used to pick on her.

A Funeral For Baby Cathy Leads to Confusion on 'The Big C' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 23rd 2011 6:32AM
'The Big C' - 'A Little Death'The tragedy of Rebecca's miscarriage of baby Cathy lead to a lot of confusion when Rebecca decided to throw a funeral for her baby on 'The Big C' (Mon., 10:30PM ET on Showtime). The big problem came when Sean put it in the paper, without specifying which Cathy had died.

So at the funeral, all of Cathy's friends showed up and were shocked to find that she was still alive. Particularly devastated was Paul's old friend, the woman Cathy calls the "rugby slut." She was Paul's extramarital fling, though far less sexual, when Cathy was flinging with painter guy.

Cathy was none too happy to see her show up ready to swoop up Paul in his grief. She approached "rugby slut" and told her in no uncertain terms how she felt. She wants Paul to find a woman and be happy, but she is not that woman.

Love Is In the Air on 'The Big C' Thanksgiving (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 16th 2011 7:58AM
'The Big C' - 'The Last Thanksgiving'It was Thanksgiving time on 'The Big C' (Mon., 10:30PM ET on Showtime) and love was in the air. Especially on the big day itself. Paul found himself charged up after talking to Cathy's cancer buddy Lee, while Andrea had to let down her walls a little to admit she reciprocated Myk's declaration of love.

Blame that one on Adam, who remains one of the most unlikable teenagers on television. He had Andrea half-convinced that all guys were as sleazy as he is. At least Adam has Sean, who's the only character who seems to have any sway over him, and may yet prove to be a good influence.

Paul Learns He's a Bear on 'The Big C' (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Aug 9th 2011 8:45AM
'The Big C' S02/E07As 'The Big C' (Mon., 10:30PM ET on Showtime) has progressed, Cathy (Laura Linney) has often found herself making new friends to support her.

However, when she brings home the very cute, younger-looking Lee (Hugh Dancy), Cathy's husband Paul (Oliver Platt) senses that he may have competition for her affections. "So you guys go to acupuncture together. You're like best friends now?"

As it turns out, he needn't have worried: Lee is 100 percent gay. As he puts it, "If anyone should be jealous, it's Cathy. You're actually my type, Paul."

Upping Paul's awkwardness quotient he added, "I'm into 'bears.' I like my men big and hairy."

Cathy's Son Adam Is Completely Out of Control Now on 'The Big C' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 2nd 2011 7:00AM
'The Big C' - 'The Little C'It was a very uncomfortable week on 'The Big C' (Mon., 10PM ET on Showtime), and it had nothing to do with Cathy's cancer. Sure, it's always a backdrop to the emotions happening on the show, but there was so much more going on.

And most of it centered around Adam, who is heading down a very nasty path. He's downright unlikable now, which I guess is a testament to the talent of the writing staff and Gabriel Basso in portraying him.

Granted, he owned up to giving crabs to his parents in what had to be a very difficult situation, though Sean forced his hand on that one. He had to admit to having sex for the first time, and then admit it was in their bed. How many of us would have considered just running away from home as a viable alternative to that admission. And that wasn't even all of it!

Sean's Homemade Baby Sling Terrifies Moms at the Park on 'The Big C' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 26th 2011 2:01AM
'The Big C' - 'Cats and Dogs'Sean is quickly turning into a favorite character on 'The Big C' (Mon., 10:30PM ET on Showtime). The schizophrenic, homeless-by-choice version of him was interesting as a foil for Cathy, but this medicated father-to-be is endearing and likable.

We love how he's embracing impending fatherhood, without forsaking the unique traits that made him fascinating to begin with.

His baby sling invention, for example, seemed like a practical and logical solution, but thinking that moms in the park would ever put their babies in something cobbled together with dish towels and hot pads was insane.

Andrea Is Convinced Marlene Is Haunting Sean's House on 'The Big C' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 19th 2011 2:30AM
'The Big C' - 'Boo!'While Paul was getting let go and Kathy was struggling to start her first day at the new clinical trial on 'The Big C' (Mon., 10:30PM ET on Showtime), Sean was having a struggle of his own back at home. Even though his medications have helped tremendously with his bipolar tendencies, he'd begun to hear noises in the house.

He simply thought he was going crazy, until Andrea (Gabourey Sidibe) stopped by and freaked him out even more about it.

When Sean shared that he felt like he was hearing ghosts, Andrea jumped at his supernatural speculation, exclaiming, "I believe in this s***." The former owner, Marlene, had recently committed suicide there.

Emmys 2011: Snubs We're on Board With!

by Jean Bentley, posted Jul 14th 2011 12:40PM
The Tonight Show with Jay LenoWhile some of the head-scratching 2011 Emmy nomination snubs are infuriating (no 'Walking Dead'? At ALL?), some we're gleefully happy about.

No offense to Kyra Sedgwick, 'Nurse Jackie' or Lea Michele (plenty of offense to 'The Killing'), but we're kinda glad over here at AOL TV that they didn't waste precious nomination slots. Gotta spread those award accolades around. Share the wealth, people.

Below, a few of the Emmy snubs we can really get behind. Agree? Vehemently oppose? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Cathy Tries to Have Sex With Paul, But It's 'Aggressive and Weird' on 'The Big C' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 12th 2011 7:10AM
'The Big C' - 'Sexual Healing'Now that Cathy has accepted that she has cancer and opened up to others about it, she needs to find what will become her new normal on 'The Big C' (Mon., 10:30PM ET on Showtime). That means finding a healthy relationship with husband Paul again ... including marital relations.

Paul, trying to be supportive, may have told her that he was fine with not having sex, but that wasn't true. Poor Andrea found that out first-hand when she accidentally walked in on Paul taking care of his "frustrations" himself.

When Cathy confronted him about it, he admitted that he was frustrated. She had, after all, just had an affair with another man and they'd had all kinds of crazy sex in all kinds of crazy places. And now, with him, she wanted nothing.
