'The City' Is Canceled, According to Whitney Port

by Kelly Woo, posted Oct 25th 2010 4:20PM
Whitney Port'The City's' bright lights are shutting down. Star Whitney Port confirmed the rumors that the the 'Hills' spin-off has been canceled.

According to Racked, the 25-year-old fashion designer gave the news to Ryan Seacrest on his radio show Monday morning. "As of right now it doesn't really look like we're doing it anymore," Port said. She also denied any possibility that the show might move from MTV to another network.

'The City,' which debuted in December 2008, followed Port, a friend and co-worker of Lauren Conrad, as she moved from Los Angeles to New York City. After half a season of low ratings, however, the show was revamped. Characters were dropped, while new faces were added. The second season focused more on Port's career as a young fashion designer, but did not fare much better in viewership.

Kelly Cutrone Berates Whitney Over Betrayal on 'City' Season Finale (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Jul 14th 2010 5:00AM
Kelly Berates Whitney Over Betrayal on 'City' Season FinaleCareer Rule No. 1 for Whitney Port has always been: Never get on Kelly Cutrone's bad side. Will she ever learn? On the season finale of 'The City' (Tue., 10:30PM ET on MTV), Kelly takes Whitney to task after Whit meets with competing fashion PR agent Alison Brod about representing her clothing line.

"I told you I was talking to her, but I haven't hired her," Whitney explains to Kelly, the People's Revolution honcho and Whitney's former boss.

"OK, well, she is saying that you've left People's Revolution, and that you're joining her firm," says Kelly. "I haven't ever been employed by [you]. I don't know how this can go from me helping you to me getting fired ... It makes you look like an idiot, you realize that, right? ... I don't need to defend my agency against a girl who wears pink."

When Whitney tries apologizing, Kelly says she's playing the "guilt card," which is, apparently, only a "time consumer."

Roxy Olin Leaves Roommate Whitney Port on 'The City'Recently on 'The City' (Tue., 10:30PM ET on MTV), a styling mishap set roommates and coworkers Whitney Port and Roxy Olin at odds, and led to a big fight. Whit said she was "constantly disappointed," and Roxy said she wanted to move out.

It was no idle threat. Whitney came home to find her roommate packing her bags. "I can't really take the tension here," Roxy said. "I thought you would be like happier that I was leaving."

Whitney responded, "I just feel like we're leaving things on such a weird note ... No hard feelings, I guess." As Roxy slid out the door, she told Whitney she'd call later. Doubtful. Can these friends (since high school) patch things up?

Whitney and Roxy Have a Cat Fight on 'The City'It's girl vs. girl on 'The City' (Tue., 10:30PM ET on MTV). Apparently, our glamorous young women are running into a little trouble. Whitney wants to "style" a hot new rock band, but she feels that Roxy isn't obeying her every whim. Naturally -- this being 'The City' -- the whole thing inevitably leads to conflict.

The rock band makes a last minute wardrobe change, and Whitney blames her friend. Roxy attempts to explain that the clothes she was given weren't appropriate, but that's not going to stop a good fight! The two girls confront each other in the hallway behind the concert, and Whitney starts making empty threats. Specifically, she threatens to get Roxy in trouble with their boss.

Oh, Whitney. Don't you realize that you ladies are both stuck on an MTV reality show? Neither one of you is going away, no matter how many fights you get into. So maybe just learn to deal with each other.

Ke$ha Rocks 'Trashbag Shoes' on 'The City' (VIDEO)

by Gabrielle Dunn, posted Jun 23rd 2010 1:40PM
KeshaThe girls of MTV's 'The City' (Tue., 10:30PM on MTV) are usually so pristene that viewers could never see them suggesting an artist wear clothing made from trashbags for a photo shoot.

But that's exactly what happened when trash-pop sensation Ke$ha showed up to Elle magazine.

Accessories editor Olivia pairs Ke$sha's leopard leotard and studded leather jacket with "trashbag shoes" or heels with trashbags on them.

Ke$ha, of course, loves the idea.

"I wanted to make a dress for the Grammys out of garbage bags but no one would let me," the singer laments.

Olivia's face in response says it all.

Stealing Models on 'The City'Trouble ensued on 'The City' (Tue., 10:30PM ET on MTV) when Whitney Port and Roxy Olin went to Miami to put on a runway show. During the model auditions, Roxy noticed a rival designer casting one of their models. Whitney just had to intervene.

"I noticed she's trying on your stuff," said Whitney. "But I know you're [on the runway] right before us, so it's probably not possible for us to share any models. And I know I saw her first, so I kinda have dibs."

The designer simply chuckled and strutted off. Said Whitney: "What's her problem? This bitch keeps stealing our models!"

'Elle' Boss Scolds Olivia on 'The City' No one tells Olivia Palermo what to do -- or what to wear. On 'The City' (Tue., 10:30PM ET on MTV), Olivia defied her boss at 'Elle' magazine, refusing to wear some assigned designer duds to a magazine event.

"My name is on an invitation to host a party for 'Elle' magazine," boss Joe Zee said to Olivia and coworker Erin Kaplan. "I just expected that both of you would show up, support me, support the magazine, but also support the designer."

In a patronizing tone, Olivia responded, "Oh, Joe," and appeared to be stifling a laugh. "I just want you to know how serious this situation is," said Joe. "Mm, yeah," she said with a smirk.

Erin Triumphs With Fergie Cover on 'The City' (VIDEO)

Olivia and Erin have very different ideas on how to dress Fergie for an Elle cover shoot, leaving creative director Joe Zee in the middle, in the latest episode of 'The City' (Tue., 10PM ET on MTV).

Everyone seems to support Olivia's cover, with Fergie in black bra, hot pants and jacket, and with jewelry. Erin prefers the more conservative approach, highlighting Fergie's natural beauty. But Joe thinks that the ensemble works, especially the jewelry. "You don't think the diamonds made the cover?" he asks Erin. "I think Fergie's body made the cover." In the end, Erin's cover wins out. Which do you prefer?

Kelly Cutrone Talks 'Kell On Earth,' Stephanie Pratt and ... Martha Stewart?

by Maggie Furlong, posted Feb 1st 2010 4:30PM
Kelly CutroneFashion publicist Kelly Cutrone -- until now known as Lauren Conrad's former boss on 'The Hills' and the one always conveniently crossing paths with Whitney Port on 'The City' -- is not quite the blatant antagonist she's made out to be on MTV. She's more like a sheep in wolf's clothing instead of the other way around.

I'm not saying she isn't a force -- she most certainly is -- but she also wears $5 Target flip-flops to cocktail parties, name drops Martha Stewart and tells me to call her "anytime -- we'll blog together." (OK, come to think of it, that last bit could very well have been a slam against me and my job. And yet, I still like her. Damn, she's good.)

One of the best parts of the holiday season is the return of some of television's most beloved animated classics. Shows like, for instance, 'A Charlie Brown Christmas,' 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer' and, of course, 'Robot Chicken.'

Okay, so maybe 'Robot Chicken' isn't quite your father's stop-motion show, but retailers around the nation are about to find out how today's brand of animation stacks up against favorites of the past as several offbeat animated series get the DVD treatment. But don't worry, if cartoons aren't your thing, we've also dug up some releases from other genres that will make some of the best gifts this side of the Island of Misfit Toys.

'The Hills' is returning for another season on MTV -- and now, so is co-star Audrina Patrdige.

This week, a representative for Patridge told US Magazine that she can "officially confirm that [the reality star] will appear in the sixth season of 'The Hills.'" This comes after weeks of negotiations and back-and-forths with MTV about Partridge's supposed upcoming spin-off.

In a May interview on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, Patridge said that she was planning to leave 'The Hills,' the reality show that made her famous, to set out on her own. Apparently, MTV had gifted Patridge a series akin to co-star Whitney Port's 'The City.'
