The Game Loves Allison And Her Music Video on 'America's Next Top Model' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 3rd 2011 3:00AM
The Game, 'America's Next Top Model'The Game may not be an expert in fashion, but he does know a thing or two about what looks good when it comes to women. Of course, the same could be said for most men, but most men didn't get to be a guest judge on 'America's Next Top Model' (Wed., 9PM ET On The CW), and The Game did.

He was particularly fascinated by Allison's video shoot, which he also got to direct. She wasn't quite sure what to make of his critique at first, because he was fixated on the word "weird" in trying to describe what he'd just seen. In his defense, it is certainly the first thing that comes to mind, and not in a bad way.

I do not believe the latter will be the case for Mr. Cage." [E! Online]

by Aimee Deeken, posted Mar 23rd 2011 7:00AM
Mario Van Peebles on 'The Game'When Mario Van Peebles guest-starred on 'The Game' (Tue., 10PM ET on BET), he initially appeared to be your standard flirty guy in a bar. "I'm so glad your friend finally left," he told Tasha. "Because now if I get you drunk and you do something silly you might regret, nobody has to know about it."

But next thing you know, the two of them were jogging through the streets in their underwear. (Tasha's jaunt was especially impressive, as she ran in high heels.)

"What on earth possessed you to do something like this?!" she asked him. He replied, "It's on my bucket list -- I'm dying."

They jumped into his convertible and sped away before a police officer could catch up.

Malik, Parker End the Affair on 'The Game'Malik Wright refuses to be blackmailed into having an affair with Parker any longer. On 'The Game' (Tue., 10PM ET on BET), he sees her interacting with her husband and discovers why she's having the affair.

"I heard the way your husband was talking to you out there," Malik tells Parker. "And as messed up as you've been to me, you deserve better than that. Yo, your issues aren't with me -- they're with him."

She takes his words to heart, and something clicks. Confronting her husband, she says, "I've allowed you to lower my self esteem. God! Because of you, I've done things that I'm ashamed of. Yeah, I allowed myself to lower my standards and sleep with a lowlife like that!"

She points to Malik, watching nearby, and her husband and his cronies lunge toward him. A gunshot breaks up the fight, but the man threatens, "You're in for a world of hurt, Wright!"

Magic Johnson Guest Stars as Himself on 'The Game' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 9th 2011 6:21AM
Magic Johnson, 'The Game'Guest stars are certainly nothing new to 'The Game' (Tue., 10PM ET on BET). The show continues to be a huge ratings success for BET so it doesn't need the star power but, considering its premise, it's all too tempting to sprinkle in some sports celebrities at least from time to time.

The latest is one of the biggest of all-time. Basketball legend Magic Johnson swung by the house with Jason on their way to play some golf. While most everyone takes it in stride, Melanie is still a little starstruck.

"Pleasure's mine," he says upon meeting her. When she just keeps smiling and shaking his hand, he reverses course. "Pleasure's yours?"

Malik tells him, "You weren't having my back at my press conference ... I'm done with your fake a-- friendship, homey!" Jason says, "Maybe after rehab, you try a little anger management."

Malik shoves Jason and takes a swing at Derwin before falling down. They pick him up and drag him from the restaurant. Jason covers for the incident, joking (loudly, for witnesses to hear), "These crazy kids are always roughhousing."

Best Football Shows Ever

by Scott Harris, posted Feb 1st 2011 3:00PM
Football ShowsBaseball may be known as our national pastime, but there's no doubt what America's favorite sport really is: football.

Much of football's popularity can be traced to how well football translates to television, with tens of millions of people tuning in every weekend to enjoy the sport on every level from high school and college to the NFL.

So, considering how well suited football is for the small screen, it's a surprise just how few TV shows about football there have been over the decades. Sure, there are plenty of live shows with pundits and former players discussing next week's matchup or breaking down last week's game film, but we mean honest-go-goodness programming -- you know, like dramas, comedies, reality shows. Why haven't there been more about the ol' pigskin?

Derwin Insults Melanie on 'The Game'On 'The Game' (Tue., 10PM ET on BET), Derwin digs a big hole for himself when trying to compliment his wife. Melanie is frustrated with Jazz (Sheila). "There is no way she can be a role model ... Anybody can be in a music video ... Is she really all of that?" she asks, clearly fishing for Derwin to assure her that Jazz is nothing special.

"If you're into the whole exotic huge ass, huge boobs thing -- which clearly I'm not, 'cause I'm with you," her husband replies. Wrong answer. But it gets worse.

by Chris Harnick, posted Jan 12th 2011 6:20PM
America Ferrera'Ugly Betty' star America Ferrera is joining 'The Good Wife.' But, it's not as a new lawyer or poor soul of a client: Ferrera is joining the cast as a romantic interest for Eli (Alan Cumming).

According to Entertainment Weekly, Ferrera will play Natalie, a graduate student who catches Eli's eye. The Emmy-winner will appear in an episode next month along with 'Seinfeld' veteran Jerry Stiller. This is Ferrera's first TV gig since the end of 'Ugly Betty.'

"It's thrilling to have two actors who combine such dramatic and comedic ability," Robert King, co-creator and executive producer of 'The Good Wife,' said in a statement. "We've been watching and loving America for years now on 'Ugly Betty,' and it'll be fantastic to see her take on a completely different role - especially one that puts her across from Alan Cumming."

Stiller will play a judge who has a problem staying awake while on the bench. His character will preside over one of Diane's (Christine Baranski) cases. So far Stiller is just contracted for one episode.

"And Jerry Stiller is our dream judge," he said. "It was great when we got to stop saying 'We need a Jerry Stiller-type in the role' and just got Jerry Stiller."

Rapper Bow Wow Lost $100,000 ... From a Bet on a Video GameWhat's the most that you've ever lost on a bet? For your humble 'TV Squad' writer, that amount would be 20 bucks. But rapper Bow Wow managed to throw away $99,980 more than that -- from a bet on a single video game. That's the topic of discussion on the current 'Lopez Tonight' (weeknights, 11PM ET on TBS).

It seems that Bow Wow was playing 'Madden NFL' ... for some very high stakes. And when he lost to fellow rapper Game, he had to pay up one hundred thousand dollars.

BET Ready to Play 'The Game'

by Scott Harris, posted Apr 5th 2010 11:40AM
Tia MowryBetween the Masters, Major League Baseball's opening day and March Madness, it seems that there's a big game popping up every day on networks like ESPN and CBS. Now, though, one of the biggest games around is about to appear courtesy of a less likely source: BET.

That's because, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the cable network is expected to announce that it has finalized a deal to bring back the late, lamented CW comedy 'The Game,' which was a spinoff from the beloved hit 'Girlfriends.'

That series of course, ran for eight seasons, but unfortunately 'The Game' wasn't as successful, thanks in large part to the network's decision to move away from half-hour comedies like 'The Game' in favor of hour-long shows. While series creator Mara Brock Akil did attempt to save the series by converting it to a full-hour format, the move wasn't enough to rescue the 'The Game,' which was instead canceled after three seasons.

New TV on DVD releases this week

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 18th 2010 6:01PM
DamagesHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

Defying Gravity is one of those shows where I said "oh, I have to start watching that," and then it was gone from ABC. I guess there have been several shows like that in recent years. I can say the same thing about Damages and Durham County, but at least those two shows are still around.

Guess I'm interested in shows that begin with the letter D this week.

  • 21 Jump Street - Season 1
  • Cranford: Return to Cranford and The Collection (Cranford/Return to Cranford)
  • Dallas - Season 12
  • Damages - Season 2
  • Defying Gravity - Complete Series
  • Durham County - Season 1

The CW schedules its Fall Preview in the middle of Daytime Emmy coverage

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 25th 2009 4:42PM
The Vampire DiariesThe CW certainly seems to have embraced their new goal of pushing the entire network in a very "female" direction. They've scheduled their new fall preview special on Sunday, August 30 at 6:30 PM, smack between a special spotlighting the top ten moments from The Tyra Banks Show and their red carpet coverage of the night's Daytime Emmy Awards.

That's nestled in a huge bed of estrogen from where I'm sitting. No wonder a show like Reaper didn't make it if this is the new demographic The CW is seeking. The manliest shows on the network are Supernatural and Smallville, and both of those do well with the ladies, certainly better than Sock did. Other than that, it's Gossip Girl, 90210, The Vampire Diaries, America's Next Top Model -- how did this happen?

It's almost all teen dramas now, and it's definitely skewing female. They managed to abandon comedies and African-American featured shows in one fell swoop by canceling Everybody Hates Chris and The Game, and they dumped the hellishly fun Reaper. All that's left is pretty people pouting. Is this what America wanted out of our fifth network?
