Ryan Reynolds Recalls a High-Flying, Near-Death Experience on 'Letterman' (VIDEO)

by Mike Moody, posted Jun 15th 2011 3:12AM
ryan reynoldsIt sounds like Ryan Reynolds was in need of his 'Green Lantern' power ring during a recent skydiving adventure.

The star dropped by 'The Late Show With David Letterman' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) to talk about his penchant for jumping out of airplanes -- he's done it 13 times -- as well as that one time when his parachute didn't open.

Luckily, Reynolds was packing a reserve 'chute, but he was reluctant to pull it because, as he said, "then I'd have none left!"

Lindsay Lohan Won't Read Top Ten on 'Letterman' After All

by Jean Bentley, posted Feb 16th 2011 10:55AM
Lindsay LohanAccording to Lindsay Lohan's Twitter, reports yesterday that she was scheduled to read the Top Ten list on 'The Late Show With David Letterman' Thursday night are false.

"I am NOT going to be doing David Letterman, I'm not sure how this happened, but I am sorry for the confusion," the actress tweeted this morning.

UPDATE: According to TMZ, the person who booked Lindsay on the show was her father, Michael Lohan.

CBS issued the following statement, according to Entertainment Weekly: "Lindsay Lohan will not be delivering a Top Ten list on Thursday's 'Late Show With David Letterman,' as had been previously announced. We made a mistake. Someone purporting to be a friend of Lindsay's reached out to the show yesterday, allegedly on her behalf, and booked her to appear. Clearly, this person was not authorized to make commitments on her behalf. We wish Lindsay well, and look forward to having her on the show in the future."

TVR Awards -- The 10 Most Viewed Videos of the Year

by Donald Deane, posted Dec 27th 2010 11:30AM

Take a tour through the past year of TV and relive some of the best moments the medium had to offer in our 10 Most Viewed Videos of the Year. We'd all do well to study these fan favorites and commit them to long-term memory. After all, someday our grandchildren might ask where we were when Terry Bradshaw sprang from a cake, when Helen Mirren showed up in a red bikini or when Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg walked off their own set. Okay, maybe not. But it's nice to dream.

It's Finally Happened ... Craig Ferguson Has Gone Totally Insane (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Oct 6th 2010 4:45AM
It's Finally Happened ... Craig Ferguson Has Gone Totally InsaneEvery once in a while, we're privileged to watch true television greatness. This has only happened three times, as far as we know. First, we got to see a man walk on the moon. And then, much later on, Lady Gaga wore a "meat dress" in front of a national audience.

So, those were the first two incredibly cool things to happen on TV. Thanks to host Craig Ferguson, tonight's 'Late Late Show' (weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS) gave us the third moment.

Craig is known for his occasional forays into insanity, as well as his great love for puppets. But he really outdid himself on the latest show, which featured an absurd performance of the classic '80s song 'I Melt With You.' The rendition of the song starred Craig himself, who was sporting a "Flock of Seagulls" haircut.

David Letterman: Oprah "Hated" Me, Because I Stole Lunch From Her (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 29th 2010 2:48AM
David Letterman: Oprah 'Hated' Me, Becaue I Stole Lunch From HerTalk show host David Letterman had a legendary 16-year-long feud with his rival, Oprah Winfrey. But what was the cause of their mutual animosity? Most people think it was started when Dave hosted the Academy Awards in 1995. He kicked off show by making a really awkward (and unfunny) joke, where he pretended to introduce Oprah to Uma Thurman.

The "joke" was that he repeated their odd names again and again: "Uma ... Oprah! Oprah ... Uma!" he said, continuing the leaden gag for what seemed like an eternity. Ever since then, people have assumed that this is why Dave and Oprah disliked each other. But on 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM on CBS), Dave revealed the actual reason -- he stole a free lunch from Ms. Winfrey!

Bill Clinton on Losing Weight, Becoming a "Medical Experiment" -- Plus, a Dancing Dog! (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 21st 2010 2:36AM
Bill Clinton on Losing Weight, Becoming a 'Medical Experiment' -- Plus, a Dancing Dog!On 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), former President Bill Clinton showed up to discuss his recent weight loss, and he also compared heart surgery war stories with host David Letterman. Several years ago, Bill had a quadruple heart bypass, but Dave has done him one better with his own quintuple bypass surgery.

Since this operation in 2004, Clinton has become much healthier, and has tamed his love for fast food, meaning that clips like this one are no longer strictly accurate. (Although we're still big fans of the late, great Phil Hartman's Clinton impersonation.) Bill told Letterman that he now weighs the same amount that he did in high school. "You look fantastic," Dave said.

Joaquin PhoenixAfter Casey Affleck confirmed to The New York Times last week that his Joaquin Phoenix "documentary" was a hoax, now it's been revealed that David Letterman was in on the whole thing.

'Late Show With David Letterman' writer Bill Scheft admitted on Friday that Phoenix's disastrous February 2009 appearance on the show was all planned, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Dave knew about it and Dave loved it because he could play along," Scheft said. "It was great television."

Michael Douglas Discusses Throat Cancer Diagnosis With Letterman (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 1st 2010 5:30AM
Michael Douglas Discusses Cancer Diagnosis With Letterman Michael Douglas appeared on 'The Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) to discuss his recent struggle with throat cancer -- and even David Letterman had to mention that Mike was looking pretty good! Especially considering that he's battling a potentially terminal illness.

Douglas was only diagnosed with the disease three weeks ago. But by the time doctors discovered his throat cancer, it was already in the "advanced" stage. Michael just completed his first week of radiation and chemotherapy -- doctors now put his chances of recovery at 80% or better, which is great news.

If you missed the big, um, event last week, Harry Smith had a colonoscopy live on 'The CBS Early Show.' So of course David Letterman had to have him come on last night and do the Top Ten List for the "Top Ten Things Going Through Harry Smith's Mind During His Televised Colonoscopy."

What You Missed Last Night: Kimmel on Letterman Talking About Leno

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 17th 2010 11:39AM
'Jimmy Kimmel Live' is in reruns this week and that means that Kimmel is free to go on some East Coast talk shows. Last night he was on 'The Late Show' and talked about the whole Leno/Conan/NBC fiasco and his part in all of it. It seems to me that Letterman just enjoyed the whole thing, not in a mean spirited way but just the way that he says here, because it reminded him of old times at comedy clubs.

What You Missed Last Night: Tracy Morgan on Oprah and the Olympics

A Tracy Morgan interview is truly an unpredictable event, as Joel found out last year. Often you don't know if you're talking to Tracy Morgan or Tracy Jordan from '30 Rock,' so anything is possible. Last night he was on 'The Late Show' and talked about Oprah Winfrey, 'The Wolfman,' and why he doesn't watch the Winter Olympics. They could probably use this on '30 Rock.'

What You Missed Last Night: Leno on That Super Bowl Ad with Dave & Oprah

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 9th 2010 1:29PM
I don't think there's anyone who has been harder on Jay Leno over the years than me. I'm a Letterman guy all the way, but there's something oddly...comforting about having Jay back at 11:35. And you know what? Seeing Jay talk about how that Super Bowl ad with David Letterman and Oprah came about is almost touching. It seems like Jay was truly moved by Letterman asking him to be in the ad, even if it was mostly just to do something funny and surprising.

Jay talked about it on the show last night. (For the record, Dave talked about it too, but just made a few jokes, including one about how the people who played Jay and Oprah in the ad did a great job).
