Fox Benches 'New Girl' Until November: Get Ready for a Two-Hour 'X Factor'

by Catherine Lawson, posted Oct 11th 2011 8:00AM
'The New Girl' castBad news for 'New Girl' fans, but great news for 'X Factor' and baseball fans: Fox is benching the new comedy until November in order to accommodate some scheduling tweaks.

The network has retooled its schedule slightly to allow it to air even longer episodes of 'The X Factor' as well as the MLB play-offs and World Series. This means that no new episodes of 'New Girl' will air until November.

A scheduled special airing of 'New Girl' tomorrow night will be replaced by a two-hour (count 'em) episode of 'The X Factor,' which will introduce the "judges' mansions" round of the competition.

Jess Accidentally Scares Off Schmidt's Potential Score on 'New Girl' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 5th 2011 1:15AM
'New Girl' - 'Wedding'This week we got to see the gang just hanging out like friends on 'New Girl' (Tue., 9PM ET on FOX) and it was a refreshing change. Finally, we get to see what the long-term potential of this series is, and it's pretty entertaining.

When the guys are invited to yet another friend's wedding, they recruited Jess to be Nick's pretend girlfriend, to try and keep him from flirting and getting his heart re-broken by his ex. Unfortunately, Jess being Jess not only drove him into her arms -- and to those tears -- she screwed things up for Schmidt, who called her a "ruiner."

Fox Pilots: What Did the Network Pick up for the 2011-2012 Season?

by Jean Bentley, posted May 11th 2011 12:00PM
Geoff StultsBy now you've read about last night's Fox bloodbath, during which the network canceled five of its bubble shows to make room for new series.

So what, exactly, will fill those now-vacant time slots? Here's a rundown of the pilots The Hollywood Reporter says are a go.

The most notable (and inevitable) pickup is J.J. Abrams' 'Alcatraz,' about the storied San Francisco prison. There's also scientists and a time warp involved, naturally. 'Lost' vet Jorge Garcia stars in the crime drama, which somehow involves prisoners from the 1960s appearing in the present day.

Also on the list is the 'Bones' spinoff 'The Finder,' starring Geoff Stults as a person who's really, really good at finding things (people, possessions, etc.). The Florida Keys-set series could take the place of its predecessor while 'Bones' star Emily Deschanel is out on maternity leave later this year.

Mad Men: The New Girl

Mad Men
(S02E05) "This is America. Pick a job and become the person who does it." - Bobbie, to Don

Is there any other show on TV right now that packs so much stuff into one episode? So many revelations, so many character developments, so many nuances? People who only have the attention span for music videos have complained that "nothing ever happens" on Mad Men, but I say that more happens in an episode of this show than three or four of most other shows on the air right now.

This episode was amazing. Not only did we get the background story on one of the big mysteries of the first season (if this was Lost the message boards would be going crazy right now), we got to see a different side of a few characters and the very welcome (if quick) return of an old favorite. Though I wonder how her new situation will affect Don in the upcoming episodes.
