Ryan Studies Eric's Dirty Underwear on 'The Real World' (VIDEO)
by Aimee Deeken, posted Sep 30th 2010 7:30AM
We don't know which guy is more disgusting on 'The Real World' (Wed., 10PM ET on MTV): Eric Patrick, the one with extremely dirty underwear, or Ryan Leslie, the one examining it.Ryan dug out a few pairs of house mate Eric's filthy undies. (We don't know why.) He discovered ... more than skid marks. It pains us to write more detail. As Eric explained, "When I run, I spray fart. I can't help it -- God made me this way."
Jemmye Carroll summed it up by saying: "I don't know what's creepier -- the fact that Eric [beep] himself, or the fact that our roommates enjoyed watching it and pulling out his dirty underwear."
'The Real World' Finale: Knight Takes Us Out With Some Spanking (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 16th 2010 5:27AM
This is the end of 'The Real World' (Wed., 10PM ET on MTV). Well, it's not really the end. The show has been around for twenty-four seasons, and god knows, it'll probably be around for twenty-four more. This is the finale of the current New Orleans season, though -- and the castmates took us out in traditional classy 'Real World' style: With some vandalism and some spanking.Sahar was busy lamenting that soon she would be gone from the house on Dufossat Street -- along with all the other housemates. So Knight made an effort to raise everyone's spirits. (Or maybe he was just being crazy; it's always hard to tell with Knight.)
'Real World': Sahar's Boyfriend Gets Wasted at Her Gig (VIDEO)
by Aimee Deeken, posted Sep 9th 2010 9:20AM
It's a really important night for Sahar Dika: The novice singer/songwriter is performing at a local club on 'The Real World' (Wed., 10PM ET on MTV). And she's very nervous. Her boyfriend Pablo shows up to "support" her, but he's so wasted he can barely speak or stand up. Sahar's housemates step in to look after him, but she says, "I don't think anybody can control him."
Eric Patrick sums up the jerk's actions when he says, "Any guy who would get that drunk before anything their girlfriend wants to do, if it's that important, isn't necessarily maybe the guy that you wanta be with."
Sahar, are you listening? Dump him!
Ryan Gets Kicked Out of 'The Real World' House (VIDEO)
by Aimee Deeken, posted Sep 2nd 2010 8:30AM
Ryan swears his behavior isn't affecting the housemates on 'The Real World' (Wed., 10PM ET on MTV). They would have to disagree. "Everybody collectively feels that you can be extremely inconsiderate to other people's emotions," explains Sahar. Ryan counters by wondering why Preston isn't getting a similar lecture for peeing on his toothbrush. "Because you shoved his cigarettes in your [beep]," Sahar answers succinctly.
"We've all made the collective decision that you need to pack your bags and kick rocks," says Preston. At this, Ryan threatens to beat up Preston and storms out of the house. Sahar simply locks the door behind him.
'Real World': Jemmye Punches Ryan While He's Driving (VIDEO)
by Aimee Deeken, posted Aug 26th 2010 6:00AM
Knight and Ryan get along. Ryan and Jemmye don't. As Knight's girlfriend, Jemmye finds this really annoying. After an evening of boozing, Ryan drives 'The Real World' (Wed., 10PM ET on MTV) housemates home -- until Jemmye has had enough, and hits him.One could definitely argue that Ryan started it, saying, "Everybody from Mississippi is like the people from 'Hills Have Eyes'." Jemmye, the resident Mississippi native, replies, "Y'all don't underSHTand ..." and launches into her work experience in Washington D.C.
"Learn how to pronounce your [beep] S's!" shouts Ryan. Then she punches him (and the cameraman shields the lens from her precariously swaying red beverage). The vehicle grinds to a halt in the middle of the road, and the rest of the housemates must persuade him to keep driving.
Jemmye Opens Up About Her Abusive Past on 'The Real World' (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 19th 2010 4:41AM
In order for healing to begin, you have to be able to share your pain with others. Which is what takes place on the latest 'Real World' (Wed., 10PM ET on MTV).Previously on the show, Jemmye revealed that she was in a physically violent relationship for more than a year. On tonight's episode, the young lady is still suffering flashbacks from the relationship. She drinks too much, then falls down naked on the floor, while mumbling about her abusive ex-boyfriend. Next, Jemmye goes on a drunken rampage, randomly smashing objects.
'Real World': Sahar Fights with Knight, Starts Being Real (VIDEO)
by Aimee Deeken, posted Aug 12th 2010 9:45AM
On 'The Real World' (Wed., 10PM ET on MTV), Knight says he can "say stuff to [Sahar], and she knows I'm joking, and she can stay stuff to me and it's like, 'OK, it's coming from Sahar.'" Well, Knight, it's time to start being real. There is a line with Sahar, and it begins with Pablo."The gap between your teeth -- I can build a [beep] bridge on there," jokes Sahar. He counters, "That maternity dress you're wearing right now looks great on you -- especially with the sideburns."
They both laugh and clap at how funny they are. Knight then says, "Did Pablo cheat on you already? Yes! He made out with another girl in a club."
Sahar explodes. "If I trusted [Jemmye] with something, and she told you, I'm gonna create hell in this house! Because you don't know what a [beep] bitch I can be!" She storms off to drag Knight's girlfriend into the argument.
'Real World:' Ryan Calls the Cops on Preston for Peeing on His Toothbrush (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 5th 2010 3:00AM
If you haven't been paying attention to 'The Real World' lately, then you might need a quick recap. There's been an ongoing feud taking place between Ryan and Preston. This feud culminated in Preston stealing Ryan's toothbrush, rubbing it on the inside of a toilet bowl, and then peeing on the said aforementioned toothbrush.Sometimes, the simplest words are the best. And so, here is what we have to say about all of that. ... Um, gross! Yuck!
Tonight (Wed.,10PM ET on MTV), Ryan decided to get his "revenge" on Preston by calling the cops. Unfortunately, Ryan sort of undercut his case, based on the fact that he had also stolen Preston's cigarettes ... and rubbed them on his butt. And so, we say again: Yuck! What is wrong with you dudes?
The cops didn't seem fantastically excited to be called in to deal with this very dumb feud -- and to be honest, we can't blame them. There are probably more important things for New Orleans-area policemen to be doing. We're just guessing here, but that seems about right.
'Real World': Jemmye Reveals Abuse in Her Past (VIDEO)
by Aimee Deeken, posted Jul 29th 2010 9:15AM
Knight and Jemmye are friends with benefits on 'The Real World' (Wed., 10PM ET on MTV). But after a lot of booze, Jemmye feels safe enough to confide in him about her past; and the revelation seems to make their bond stronger.Jemmye reveals to Knight that she was in an abusive relationship for over a year. Knight, through a bit of slurring and slow speech, is livid.
"Here's my problem," says Knight. "I love his girl, I will never let anything happen to this girl ... That's like my No. 1 pet-peeve."
Knight can't believe she put up with it. "You become too terrified to leave the situation," explains Jemmye. "It was easier to deal with it for 15 minutes, 20 minutes a day, than to leave and be seriously terrified."
Two 'Real World' Cast Members Have a (Very) Drunken Love Connection (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 22nd 2010 4:20AM
Ah, young love. So sweet, so innocent. Unless you're on 'The Real World' (Wed., 10PM ET on MTV), that is.[Spoiler alert.]
Jemmye is a young lady from Mississippi. She enjoys drinking and causal sex, and has only ever slept with black men. Ryan Knight -- who prefers to be just called "Knight" -- is a young man from Wisconsin who is recovering from painkiller addiction. On Episode Three of the show, Jemmye slept with Knight. This completed Ryan's plan to be the first white dude to have sex with her. Aw! This is all so sweet! But will these two lovebirds be able to make it work in the long run?
Of course they will! With the help of lots and lots of alcohol, anyone can apparently sleep with anyone. So after a night of heavy drinking, Jemmye and Knight get back together. Then, Knight slurs his true feeling to Jemmye, saying something like this: "I thin' there's more then justthereeee. ... I real' think zwhat's how you feel."
Translated out of drunk talk, this apparently means, "I like you." Next, the pair tenderly hold hands. Then Knight says: "Whaaannt have sex?" "Mmm-hmm," replies Jemmye.
Jemmye Gets Wasted, Knight Forced to Babysit on 'Real World' (VIDEO)
by Aimee Deeken, posted Jul 15th 2010 4:00AM
Who was your money on to be the first housemate on this season of 'The Real World' (Wed., 10PM ET on MTV) to get hideously, embarrassingly trashed? If it was Jemmye, then well done.Knight's attempts to bed Jemmye quickly backfire when she gets drunk and wants him to take care of her. She roams the house, calling out his name and crying.
"Breakdown on Bourbon Street," says Knight of Jemmye. "This is major babysitting, which is major problems for this guy. I've done my part: I brought Jemmye home safely. And it's just like, give me my space now."
Fellow housemates chide him for avoiding Jemmye, and Ryan appears physically repulsed when she traipses into his room and starts weeping.
Knight eventually goes to her rescue. Jemmye tries calling her mom, but her tears and high-pitched squealing only lead the woman to hang up on her daughter. Knight, you've picked a winner.
'Real World' Housemates Fight Over Faking Injury (VIDEO)
by Aimee Deeken, posted Jul 8th 2010 6:50AM
Doctors tell Eric Patrick that Ryan Leslie has only "popped" his shoulder. But on 'The Real World' (Wed., 10PM ET on MTV), a minor injury becomes the source of another knock-down drag-out between two housemates.Once home from the hospital, Leslie admits to Ryan Knight that the sling he has donned is "fake." Knight makes a derogatory remark and tells him to "man up." Leslie returns the sentiment by calling Knight a douche bag, and says, "I don't value you as people [sic] because you're a piece of [beep]."
Many more insults and cuss words are exchanged between the two housemates, with Leslie finally saying, "Don't apologize to me tomorrow or the next day because you're a [beep] douche bag. You're nobody to me." Then why get so worked up? Oh yeah, because it's 'The Real World.'
'Real World' 24: Trailer Trash and Gay Cooties (VIDEO)
by Aimee Deeken, posted Jul 1st 2010 4:45AM
The cast of the 24th season of 'The Real World' (Wed., 10PM ET on MTV) wastes no time: They begin fighting in the premiere episode. It all starts in a gay bar, when Ryan Leslie (who's straight) is kissed on the neck by another patron. Preston Roberson-Charles (who's gay) jokes, "You know, now you're going to turn gay. It's called a 'gay cootie' -- that's what happens once one of us touch you with our lips. It's like the princess and the frog."
Ryan replies, "You guys touch me, and I feel like killing myself." Preston says, "That was really harsh," and then they start yelling at each other, with Ryan telling him to stop acting "hardcore."
Later, Ryan walks into Preston and Jemmye Carroll's bedroom. Maybe he's trying to patch things up, but he proceeds to get into a fight with Jemmye, calling her "trailer trash" and "[beep] ridiculous."
And so it begins.
'Real World' New Orleans Premiere Preview: Hot Days, Sultry Nights
by Anna Dimond, posted Jun 30th 2010 10:00AM
Get ready for some Southern-style hospitality and serious socializing (read: hard partying), because the 'Real World' is back, y'all, and it's headed for New Orleans. The 24th season of MTV's long-running reality show premieres Wednesday, June 30 (10PM ET) with a new cast of eight young adults thrown together in a big, fancy house for a few months of fun, volunteering, self-exploration and countless nights of carousing. And New Orleans, take two, might just be a comeback for 'The Real World,' which has seen ratings and interest drop in recent seasons.
This season's crop of housemates is a diverse bunch from across the country, including a hockey enthusiast from Wisconsin, a liberal Muslim from Michigan, a self-made Bostonian and a surprisingly progressive Mississippi native who also enjoys strutting her stuff in so-called "stripper heels." Among the rowdy lot are firebrands and peacemakers, pretty girls and rambunctious guys.
TV Squad spoke to cast members and got the scoop on what goes down in the Big Easy.
When the Shows Go Marching In: A History of TV Shows Set in New Orleans
by Danny Gallagher, posted Apr 13th 2010 11:04AM

Very few shows have featured New Orleans as its setting, and it's not hard to see why. The list is a mix of critically acclaimed but quickly canceled shows, and critically disemboweled and canceled-just-as-quickly shows.
'Treme,' HBO's new drama from 'The Wire' creator David Simon and 'Wire' writer/producer Eric Overmyer, could break the mold that so many others have tried to crack. Judging from the first episode, their chances are looking good. If 'Treme' goes on to achieve the fame that 'The Wire' has, it won't just have its staff, creators, or even the city to thank for providing such beautiful inspiration.
It will have these other shows to thank for choking on that overcooked beignet for them.
