Fox Cancels 'Wanda Sykes Show'

by Kim Potts, posted May 14th 2010 9:20AM
The annual network upfront presentations are just days away, which means not only are there a slew of new shows coming our way, but also some surprising cancellations, too. The latest cut: 'The Wanda Sykes Show' at Fox.

Deadline.com reports that Fox is pulling the plug on the show after just one season. Sykes' talk show, which replaced 'MadTV' as the network's 'Saturday Night Live' counter-programming, premiered last November with strong ratings. But in the intervening months, the series has lost viewers and ratings are now below what they were for 'MadTV' in its final season.

UPDATE: The Live Feed has since confirmed Deadline's report.

Eddie Izzard: 'The Atlantic is a Magical Ocean' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 1st 2010 5:40AM
The Wanda Sykes Show, Eddie IzzardNews Flash: The Atlantic is a magical ocean. We always knew it, and Eddie Izzard explained why on 'The Wanda Sykes Show' (Sat., 11PM ET on Fox).

"When you think of us, we all live in castles, all the children are Shakespeare, and we're all brilliantly cultured," he said. "And we think you all own mountains, have nine cars, and eat gold for breakfast."

Wait ... you mean they don't all live in castles in Europe? Our bubble is burst!

Wanda Sykes on Bill O'Reilly's "Honest Mistake" (VIDEO)

by Elizabeth Chan, posted Dec 7th 2009 3:10PM
Wanda Sykes ShowBill O'Reilly usually pre-tapes his show, 'The O'Reilly Factor,' and therefore must often take advantage of the ability to fix his on-air errors.

However, during one of his few live broadcasts last week, O'Reilly made the unfortunate mistake referring to President Obama as "Osama," before quickly catching himself.

As we all know, there are no "do-overs" on live TV. Wanda Sykes said it was an honest mistake and shares a similar mistake she's made in the past on 'The Wanda Sykes Show.'

The Show Girl Talks 'Human Target,' Yo Gabba Gabba!' & 'The Wanda Sykes Show' - VIDEO

by Maggie Furlong, posted Nov 6th 2009 9:00AM
Chi McBride, Human TargetYou've got questions? I've got answers. I'm The Show Girl!

This week's episode feels like a full-blown party, kicking off with a rock 'n' roll theme song for Fox's midseason show 'Human Target,' performed live with serious attitude by the show's star, Chi McBride. Chi also talks about getting out from behind the desk and getting in on the action for this DC Comics adaptation.

I also stop by the 'Yo Gabba Gabba!' set to chat with DJ Lance Rock, watch a super-secret season 3 musical guest perform and, yes, play with some new toys. (What kid won't want a 'YGG!' boombox for the holidays?) Then I've got a sneak peek at 'The Wanda Sykes Show,' straight from Wanda herself. Bar's open, people!

Want more? Email me TV questions at TheTVShowGirl@aol.com -- who knows, I might just give you an answer on the show. Now watch, enjoy and come back next week for more. Until then, happy TV watching! -- By Maggie Furlong

Wanda Sykes On 'Christine,' 'Curb,' Her New Late-Night Show & Her Personal Life

by Maggie Furlong, posted Oct 22nd 2009 9:28PM
The Wanda Sykes ShowThe set of 'The Wanda Sykes Show' is like a cross between a late-night stage and a game-show set, but judging by the setup and clips we've seen, it's more about the party than the promotion with her guests.

With the set decorated in bright shades of red and purple, there's a giant TV screen to ensure everyone in the 140-seat live audience gets a good view of the action and a big letter "W" that turns to reveal a fully stocked bar. It's like the ultimate hangout where celebs come to play, and that's just the way Wanda likes it.

At a recent press preview, we were shown a brief sizzle reel in which Wanda Sykes mocks Ann Coulter, heckles her panel guests for not partaking in the lovely selection of alcohol (all bottles have generic labels, incidentally -- like JB McDaniels Whiskey -- until some smart company decides to sponsor the weekly festivities) and tries to recycle a box of sex toys with her pal and 'New Adventures of Old Christine' co-star Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

We snagged Wanda for a minute to find out exactly what her show will be like ("loosey-goosey") and what inappropriate games she's got up her sleeve (homeless or French, anyone?). We also got her to dish on her fate on both 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' and 'Christine' ... and then we got personal. Wife, kids -- keep reading for more.

TV Squad's complete 2009-10 fall season premiere calendar

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 3rd 2009 12:04PM
GleeThe networks have had a quiet summer, quietly introducing scripted bomb after scripted bomb, so they're certainly ready to jump into the new fall season. And It looks to be an interesting one. ABC is scheduling a two-hour block of new comedies on Wednesdays as the sitcom tries to make a comeback.

Even more risky is NBC handing 10:00 to Jay Leno every night of the week. Everyone's waiting to see how that one plays out. FOX is banking on huge positive buzz for Glee to make it a hit, while ABC is hoping FlashForward can pick up where Lost is leaving off when it wraps its run this season.

To help you with it all, TV Squad has put together a handy calendar of all the premieres so you can schedule responsibly in this busy time of TV watching. Some nights have as many as twelve premieres scheduled, so you might need to invest in a few more DVRs to catch all your favorites; Monday's still look grim.
