How Much 'Bachelor' Is Too Much 'Bachelor'?

by Kim Potts, posted Mar 8th 2010 4:00PM
The recent season finale of 'The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love' drew 15 million viewers, and helped make the season the show's most watched since 2003. Obviously, despite the fact that many fans are still scratching their heads over 'Bachelor' Jake Pavelka's choice of Vienna Girardi to receive his final rose (not to mention an engagement ring), and that the show has so far resulted in just one marriage, 'The Bachelor' is getting much love these days.

But with spin-offs, televised weddings, 'Bachelor' stars on other reality series and now, even a 'Bachelor' video game on the way, are we in the midst of 'Bachelor' overkill?

'Bachelor' Jason Mesnick Explains Why He Chose Molly (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Mar 8th 2010 2:30PM
Jason Mesnick, who proposed to Melissa Rycroft at the end of 'The Bachelor,' only to famously change his mind during a reunion show for contestant Molly Malaney, said on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated) that he decided to do so after show producers told him Malaney was about to become the next 'Bachelorette.'

"I don't know if everybody knows that Molly was selected to be 'The Bachelorette,' and they told me, 'If you ever want to talk to her, tonight's the night you have to do it,'" Mesnick said. "They said, 'She's going to go on to 25 other guys, or you ask her tonight.'"

Tenley Molzahn Would Love to Beat Jake Pavelka on 'Dancing With the Stars' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 3rd 2010 11:12PM
Tenley Molzahn, Ellen DeGeneresWow, Tenley Molzahn has a great attitude about Jake Pavelka's decision on 'The Bachelor.' You know the one we're talking about – when he chose Vienna Girardi over Molzahn. Outraged fans took to the Internet to rake Pavelka over the cyber-coals for his decision.

But Molzahn? She's ok with it. "I think it was two completely different relationships, and he just had to pick which one he wanted to live with for the rest of his life," she said on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' (weekdays, syndicated).

But Ellen DeGeneres brings up a good idea. Since Pavelka's going on 'Dancing With the Stars,' maybe Molzahn should consider it, too. She's a dancer, after all. "The most brilliant idea would be to be his competition," she told DeGeneres.

Crush him like a rock, Tenley! We'd love to see that!

'The Bachelor' Finale and 'After the Final Rose' Recap

by Kim Potts, posted Mar 1st 2010 10:00PM
Oh, Jake. Jake, Jake, Jake. In a choice that came down to the so-called good girl vs. the girl who'd been called everything but good, 'The Bachelor' Jake Pavelka chose the bad girl, by proposing to blonde vixen Vienna Girardi and sending good girl Tenley Molzahn packing.

Yep, he chose Vienna, the woman hated by many other bachelorettes; the woman who said she was in love for the first time (despite being married once and engaged to another man); the woman who both viewers and tabloid magazines had trashed since Jake had chosen her as a finalist.

Dancing with the Stars / Nip/Tuck
Now that Olympic fever has subsided, it's time to look ahead to a March filled with many returning favorites, including ABC's 'Dancing with the Stars,' NBC's 'The Apprentice,' and Comedy Central's bad boys of 'South Park.' The month also offers both 'The 82nd Annual Academy Awards' on ABC and NCAA Basketball's "March Madness" on CBS.

After a dismal performance in primetime, Jay Leno returns to 'The Tonight Show' (Mon., March 1 at 11:35PM on NBC) desk he temporarily vacated for Conan O'Brien. 'The Bachelor: Women Tell All': Rozlyn Speaks Out on Her Scandal (VIDEO)

by Nicholas White, posted Feb 22nd 2010 11:30PM
The Bachelor RozlynJake who? On 'The Bachelor: Women Tell All' reunion show, the spotlight was not on the dating show's star, pilot Jake Pavelka, but on contestant Rozlyn Papa, the 28-year-old single mom who was booted from the show for an "inappropriate relatonship" with a producer.

The 'Women Tell All' special brings together the season's eliminated contestants in advance of next week's 'Bachelor' finale (Mon., March 1 at 8PM ET on ABC). Papa returned to defend herself (she said she was prepared for a "cage match") and ended up getting into a heated war of words with 'Bachelor' host Chris Harrison.

Ah, love is in the air... Luckily for 'Bachelor' star Jake Pavelka, he has three ladies to keep him warm on Valentine's Day. With the season winding down, the Hulu team looked back at memorable smooches that Jake's shared with the three final bachelorettes.

We're still a week away away from finding out whether Tenley or Vienna has stolen Jake's heart, but in the meantime, which kiss do you think takes the prize as 'The Bachelor's' best lip lock? And will any of the ladies kiss and tell on tonight's 'Women Tell All' special on ABC? Guess we'll find out.

Ali Wants Back In on 'The Bachelor' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Feb 16th 2010 3:00AM
The Bachelor, 021510Here's the thing about 'The Bachelor' (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC). The girls know there's a very good possibility that they won't end up as "the one," so they're basically risking everything to even enter the fray.

Yes, they might actually fall in love with the guy during the course of the show. Yes, they might get their heart broken. So is it stupid to go on the show, or is it a big leap of faith?

Eh, who are we kidding? The whole thing is like some weird psychological harem experiment. But that doesn't stop Ali from wanting back in, even as the final two are chosen.

What to Watch: February 15

by Kim Potts, posted Feb 15th 2010 6:00AM
'The Bachelor' (8PM, ABC)
After last week's shocker when Ali left the competition to return home and to her job, we speed closer to the March 1 season finale, as Bachelor Jake enjoys cozy dates with the three remaining finalists -- Gia, Vienna (why Jake, why?) and Tenley -- in St. Lucia. For one woman, that means a romantic beach dinner, while another gets a helicopter ride and a picnic and the third cruises with the airplane pilot on a pirate ship. Of course, we've been warned to expect the unexpected, too; previews have shown Ali reconnecting with Jake via a phone call, and host Chris Harrison has said that Jake and Ali definitely are not done with each other yet. Hmmm ... do we smell an incredibly dramatic finale coming up?

'The Bachelor' Experiment

by Stephanie Earp, posted Feb 9th 2010 10:00AM

I have a terrible confession to make. I've been watching 'The Bachelor' this season.

I know, I know. Almost every week in this column, I bemoan the fact that there's very little that's good on TV. I beat up on shows like 'Lost' and 'Californication' and then spend my Monday nights watching what is surely one of the most atrocious things on the air. I don't know what excuse I can offer, except to tell you that 'The Bachelor' is a fascinating piece of theatre, and I think it does tell us something about human nature.

I liken it to the famous Stanford Prison Experiment, performed in 1971. That project put college students into two roles: prisoner and guard. The guards were not allowed to physically hurt the prisoners, but were given pretty much free reign to do whatever else they could think of to make the prisoner uncomfortable. The experiment, which was supposed to last two weeks, was cut short after six days, because the students adapted to their roles too well. While the findings of the study are still considered controversial, they are frightening. We like to think only evil people can torture others - the Stanford Prison Experiment seemed to prove anyone could.

Melissa Rycroft Joins 'Entertainment Tonight' as Special Correspondent

by Aaron Nye, posted Feb 4th 2010 10:20AM
The incredible trajectory of Melissa Rycroft goes on.

PEOPLE reports that the former 'Bachelor' contestant has been named a special correspondent for 'Entertainment Tonight.' As part of the job, Rycroft will cover a number of assignments for the entertainment program, including premieres, award shows, set visits and Hollywood parties.

Just a year ago, the former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader was one of 25 women vying for Jason Mesnick's heart on season 13 of 'The Bachelor.' Rycroft won it, of course -- but not for long. During the show's reunion special, Mesnick revealed that he had lingering feelings for runner-up Molly Malaney, then dumped Rycroft on national television (Mesnick and Malaney have since announced plans to wed as part of an ABC special, set to air Mar. 8.)
