'The Biggest Loser' - 'Week Eleven' Recap

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 31st 2010 3:19AM
Victoria & Cherita Andrews, 'The Biggest Loser: Couples 3'(S09E11) Well, all hell broke loose at the Biggest Loser ranch this week. There was so much chaos going on, we didn't even get time for a normal challenge, which isn't to say there wasn't a challenge, and there weren't two people with immunity this week. But I'm getting way ahead of myself.

As promised, we got to see a lot of familiar faces, and a couple of not-so-familiar faces, as the eliminated contestants returned yet again for a chance to return to campus. It was a little odd seeing some of them at a size that is clearly before what we saw in their "after elimination" packages.

The return was especially difficult for the original blue team, Cherita and Victoria Andrews, as neither of them have had the opportunity to spend even one full night as part of 'The Biggest Loser' on-campus experience.

Victoria Makes a Comeback on 'The Biggest Loser' (VIDEO)

The Biggest Loser, Vicky Returns'The Biggest Loser' (Tue., 8PM ET on NBC) has to be one of the most emotional shows on TV right now. Our relationship with food is such a strange and interesting thing, and the contestants have to work through all their issues on national television.

On this week's episode, the eliminated players were given a chance to return to the ranch, and Victoria drew the lucky straw on that score. She was so grateful to have the opportunity to come back and change her life for the better. It's easy to get excited and emotional for her, even sitting in our living rooms at home.

Home Week on 'The Biggest Loser' (VIDEO)

Home Week on 'The Biggest Loser'On the latest episode of 'The Biggest Loser' (Tue., 8PM ET on NBC), the contestants all got to go home to reunite with their friends and family. It's an upbeat moment that can only be shown in the best possible way. That's right -- it can only be shown in a musical montage! Excellent.

After all the stress of 'The Biggest Loser,' it's nice to see a moment where all the contestants get to relax -- at least for a little while -- and be surrounded by their loved ones. After all, there's no point to putting in all this work if you can't share it with the people who you truly care about.

Michael Drops Below 400 Lbs on 'Biggest Loser' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 17th 2010 12:58AM
The Biggest Loser, Michael'The Biggest Loser' (Tue., 8PM ET on NBC) often gets emotional, but this episode might have been the most emotional yet.

Michael cracked the 400 lb. mark, dropping to 397 lbs, and wept as he said it was for his grandma. "I'm getting there. I'm getting there," he said. "I worked my tiny little butt off when I was in Chicago. It was my way to, like, run away from the pain."

As trainer Bob Harper said, "It doesn't even matter if Michael wins this show or not. Michael has already won this game." And he's inspired a whole bunch of other people along the way. Way to go, Michael! We're cheering for you!

'The Biggest Loser' Contestants Inspire Co-Workers (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 9th 2010 11:18PM
The Biggest Loser, Work Week'Work Week' on 'The Biggest Loser' (Tue., 8PM ET on NBC) found the contestants inspiring their co-workers.

Here's the thing about this show. Yes, it does seem like most of the contestants do well because they've got Jillian and Bob and a whole team of people helping them. Not to mention the fact that they're cordoned off at the ranch, so they don't have to worry about all those pesky life distractions.

But it's segments like this that really bring the show home to all of us in a real way. Weight loss and healthy living is absolutely achievable, and it's really up to each person to set and achieve their goals. Thus ends our 'Oprah' moment of the day.

The Biggest Loser, MikeKarma's a bitch, Mike! Sure, you may have thought you were stacking things in your favor on 'The Biggest Loser' (Tue., 8PM ET on NBC). And you're right. It's a game, and the object is to stay in the game as long as possible. We get that.

Still, we couldn't help but feel a little smug satisfaction when the Black Team pulled out a win thanks to Ashley. Oh, and Jillian Michaels needs to step up her acting skills. It all sounds so scripted, don't you think?

Ratings: 5 Ways NBC Can Keep Its Momentum Going After the Olympics

by Laura Prudom, posted Feb 24th 2010 4:00PM
Bode Miller OlympicsWhile the Winter Olympics may not have offered viewers much in terms of surprises, they've certainly provided ratings analysts with some gasp-worthy news: The daily coverage from Vancouver has allowed NBC, much like Lazarus, to rise from the dead (read: perpetual fourth place in network ratings) and steal third place for the first time since 2004.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Peacock has been averaging 26 million viewers per Olympics telecast, gaining 12 percent this season-to-date and unceremoniously dumping ABC into fourth position over the past 10 nights.

Is it a fluke? Maybe. THR is quick to point out that the Olympics are not necessarily a surefire launchpad for continued ratings stability. NBC's coverage of the 2008 Beijing Games, for example, failed to infuse its subsequent fall schedule with much pizazz, resulting in the cancellation of enthusiastically-hyped shows like 'My Own Worst Enemy.' And after the NBC's recent mid-game fumble with 'The Tonight Show,' confidence in the Peacock is at an all-time-low, with every jaded journalist in the blogosphere waiting to see how the network plans to recover.

With that in mind, we've compiled a list of five ways for NBC to maintain its momentum after the Olympic flame goes out.

The Biggest Loser, MelissaMan, it's gotta be tough when you gain weight on 'The Biggest Loser' (Tues., 8PM ET on NBC). That's what happened with Melissa this week, and she was sent home. But hey, at least she's still under 200 lbs. She'll be alright.

Meanwhile, Cheryl and Darrell battled each other in an elimination challenge that involved balancing a torch on their head. Ok, that's just not right. Not only does it seem really dangerous, but are they trying to give the contestants a closed head injury?

What to Watch: February 8 - 14

2010 Olympics Opening Ceremonies

Vancouver introduces Canada to the world on Friday with the 2010 Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremonies, the details of which are a closely guarded secret. No one besides the organizers and performers are sure exactly what to expect, but I'm guessing 'spectacular' and 'great pride for this nation' and 'unique history' will get thrown around a lot in the commentating.
