Watch 'The Voice' Contestant Dia Frampton's 'Don't Kick the Chair' Feat. Kid Cudi (VIDEO)

by AOL Music Staff, posted Nov 30th 2011 4:00PM
She isn't just a pretty 'voice,' but also one talented songwriter! Dia Frampton, who rose to fame as the runner-up on the inaugural season of NBC's 'The Voice,' has a catchy new, Kid Cudi-assisted single out called 'Don't Kick the Chair.' The Utah native puts the tune's poignant lyrics in the spotlight for its brand-new video.

"I wrote this song with Busbee and Julie Frost," Dia, who was on country megastar Blake Shelton's 'Voice' team, told AOL Music. "It started with my lyrical idea, 'Don't Kick the Chair,' since my sisters and I throw that phrase around at home when we're complaining about something when, on the other hand, it's a beautiful day outside. In other words, 'don't kick the chair' is another way of saying, 'don't give up,' because you can't have the highs without the lows, and there's no use in getting down about something for too long. You got to start pushing forward at some point."

Now that 'The X Factor' has moved past its 'Idol'-inspired laugh-at-the-weird people stage, it's beginning its 'The Voice'-inspired mentor phase, where the contenders will be split into 4 groups, each to be tutored by one of the show's judges. On 'Good Day LA' (weekdays, 7AM PT on FOX) Cowell explained what the show is looking for in its champion.

"You've got to find somebody and you've gotta show how you can turn them into a real winner in the real world. Not within a competition, 'cuz someone's always going to win a show, somebody you can say ... we helped make this person into a star," he explained.

Ann Curry and Blake Shelton on 'Today'While Blake Shelton performed Friday on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC), his wife Miranda Lambert was over at 'Good Morning America' doing her own thing. That led to a Tweet war over whose performance more people would be watching. Today anchor Ann Curry brought up the exchanges, and Shelton said Lambert was performing on "The Weather Channel or something."

"We've been popping off back and forth," said Shelton. "She says she wins because she has boobs. And she has a point. Can't argue with that." Not that Shelton would miss the opportunity to argue. He said he has a somewhat secret weapon. "She underestimates my moobs," he said.

Shelton prefaced his remarks by saying that, "getting married is by far the most crucial, pivotal, best thing that's ever happened to me." And he played his song 'Honey Bee,' which he can claim he was singing to Lambert if he gets into trouble later.

Javier Colon & Dia Frampton, 'The Voice''American Idol' revolutionized the singing competition in America ten years ago, and its first winner, Kelly Clarkson, went on to worldwide success and fame.

This summer, 'The Voice' (Wed., 8PM ET on NBC) has arguably reinvented the concept by putting the focus on ... the voice. Will its winner go on to comparable success?

With top caliber coaches in Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera, the show was more about nurturing tomorrow's superstars than sitting distant and aloof in judgment of them. And after all was said and done it came down to 2 percent.

Cee Lo Green, 'The Voice'There was a lot of singing in the performance finale of 'The Voice' (Tue., 9PM ET on NBC), and not just from our four remaining finalists. They not only sang their solo songs, but each of them took to the stage with their coach for a duet.

Javier Colon and Adam Levine performed Michael Jackson's 'Man in the Mirror,' and while it was vocally solid they didn't really bring anything new to it.

We were surprised to be a little let down by Dia Frampton and Blake Shelton's take on Tom Petty's 'I Won't Back Down,' while we enjoyed Beverly McClellan joining Christina Aguilera for a unique spin on Aguilera's own 'Beautiful.'
