What to Watch: TV Picks for June 27 - July 3
by Stephanie Earp, posted Jun 27th 2011 2:30AM
The Voice - Tuesday June 28, 9PM ET, CTV/NBCThe show ends this week, with the final four singing tonight and results tomorrow. I've enjoyed what I've seen of the show, though I admit I wasn't devoted to it. Most of my pleasure has come from watching Adam Levine try to be Simon Cowell, and wondering what Xtina is going to wear next. We get it, sweetie, you have a small waist and big chest.
Cee Lo Green Takes Us to 'Bright Lights, Bigger City' on 'The Voice' (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 23rd 2011 12:26AM
If there is a male counterpart to Lady Gaga's stage presence in this era of pop music, it has to be Cee Lo Green. He brought his singular style to the first ever results show for 'The Voice' (Wed., 8PM ET on NBC) on his song 'Bright Lights, Bigger City.'Once again, he donned a fun wig to bring a bit of Broadway style to the production, and proved that he's not just someone telling the contestants what to do, but a genuine talent in his own right. 'The Voice' seems to be determined to remind us each week that these Coaches are brilliant voices as well as mentors, and we think it's a great idea.
It lends credence to their coaching of the contestants, and it allows us the guarantee of professional-level entertainment even if the contestants don't deliver. Luckily, that has hardly been a problem in this inaugural season as the show has more than lived up to its name thus far.
Contestants on 'Today's Voice' Pay Tribute to Guest Judge Liza Minnelli (VIDEO)
by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 22nd 2011 1:20PM
It's not often that reality show contestants kiss up celebrity judges in three-part harmony, but it happened Wednesday on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC). It was the final elimination round on 'Today's Voice,' a singing competition inspired by the hit show 'The Voice,' and Liza Minnelli returned once again a guest judge. There were three contestants left, singing 'New York, New York,' which Minnelli sang in Martin Scorsese's 1977 film of the same name. They used the original closing lines, but added a lyrical twist: "If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere/Come on come through, New York/This song was made famous by Liza Minnelli."
That made Minnelli so happy, she burst into song herself, making a little coda of "My little town blues." They may have missed out on any competitive edge resulting from the flattery, though: No one has an advantage if they all do it.
Vicci Martinez Brings Down the House on 'The Voice' Semi-Finals (VIDEO)

'The Voice' (Tue., 9PM ET on NBC) continued blazing toward its finale next week at a breakneck pace. This week, we got the final four members of our Elite Eight, and got to hear them sing. Tomorrow, another hatchet job will send four of them home, leaving each Coach with only one contender for the finale.!!SPOILER ALERT!!
Before the Top 8 could sing, though, we needed to know who they were. And that meant getting the results of last week's battle between Teams Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine. As with the prior week, America's vote would save one contestant, while the Coach would save the other.
Kimmel Shows Adam Levine's Nude Cancer Awareness Picture (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 21st 2011 5:34AM
Adam Levine cares about issues that matter, so much so that he was willing to strip down naked to help promote cancer awareness. Only now he was forced to face the image he created for an uncomfortable amount of time on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (Weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC)."I look exactly like this with my clothes off," Jimmy Kimmel said, among other things as he kept a close-up on the image for several, several seconds.
"Can you not show that for that long?" Levine asked him. "It's really kind of disturbing." Levine went on to describe the image as "the reverse Janet Jackson."
'The Voice' Judge Cee Lo Green Addresses 'Homophobic' Tweet Controversy
by PopEater Staff, posted Jun 21st 2011 5:30AM
'The Voice' judge and Gnarls Barkley frontman Cee Lo Green has released a statement addressing a controversial tweet he sent on Friday. In the statement, he apologizes for questioning the sexuality of a music critic who wrote a negative review of his performance in Minneapolis, Minn.'City Pages' music editor Andrea Swensson called Cee Lo's opening performance during Rihanna's June 16 'Loud' tour stop "lackluster" and "gross." Cee Lo then expressed his feelings via Twitter, accusing her of being gay, and echoing the refrain of his recent hit song, 'F--- You.'
"I respect your criticism, but be fair! People enjoyed last night!" Cee Lo wrote. "I'm guessing you're gay? And my masculinity offended you? Well f--- you!"
Cee Lo then semi-apologized for the tweet, which he quickly deleted, in yet another tweet that he also quickly deleted. "Apologies gay community! what was homophobic about that? I said I was guessing he way gay which is fine but its nice to what u think of me," he wrote.
A Day in the Life of Cee Lo Green: 'The Voice' Drama & His Favorite to Win
by Maggie Furlong, posted Jun 20th 2011 6:30PM
Cee Lo Green says f*** you to a lot of things -- convention, boring outfits, anything without substantial sparkle-factor -- but he did say yes to a camera crew documenting a day in his life for Absolut's 'Cee Lo Distilled.'Now more in the spotlight than ever thanks to his coaching duties on 'The Voice' (Tuesdays, 9PM ET on NBC), Green is not an easy man to track down. One sneak peek at 'Distilled' -- which you can watch the first half of now on Absolut's Facebook page -- and you can see just how crazy his life is.
I caught up with him to compare Cee Lo the performer and Cee Lo the guy (if there's even a difference at all), and he talked all about the tension between co-coaches Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine, whose team he would want to be on if he were a contestant and which singer he wished he'd gotten for his own team.
Beverly McClellan of 'The Voice' Belts 'The Only One' on 'Access Hollywood Live' (VIDEO)
by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 20th 2011 2:20PM
Beverly McClellan is one of the most popular contestants on 'The Voice,' in part because she can belt out a song like Melissa Etheridge's 'The Only One' with grit and passion. McClellan said Monday on 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC) that she appeared on a radio talk show with Etheridge and explained that she'd had to sing the song with a chest cold. It didn't seem to affect her performance (or her popularity). When host Billy Bush reminded McClellan of her popularity, she said it warmed her heart. She also seemed humbled to have had the chance to speak with Etheridge. "[I] told her how hard it was to sing her song with a chest cold," said McClellan. "She's like, 'I bet.'"
The Size of Christina Aguilera's 'The Voice' Paycheck Might Surprise You
by AOL Music Staff, posted Jun 19th 2011 11:30AM
Christina Aguilera is definitely the biggest name of all the coaches on NBC's 'The Voice,' but how much bigger? The singer/actress makes big money off of her latest gig as coach on NBC's hit battle of the bands show, but you might be surprised to hear just how much. Brace yourself.
Aguilera reportedly earns a staggering $225,000 per episode. Yup. That means Christina makes 2.25x the amount of the future winner of the show's $100,000 prize -- every episode. So in just eight episodes, Christina has grossed $1,800,000 since the show's April 26 premiere. Not too shabby for a month-and-a-half of work!
And it gets better. Christina's co-stars Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton only make $75,000 per episode, which is no doubt an enviable paycheck, but it means that Xtina makes $150K more per episode than her male colleagues. Break that glass ceiling, girl!
Blake Shelton: Christina Aguilera's Boobs Honorary Member of 'Voice' Judges Panel (VIDEO)
by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 17th 2011 4:30PM
If there's a breakout personality on the singing competition 'The Voice,' it's Blake Shelton. Already a popular country musician, Shelton has proved himself charming and quick-witted, characteristics he displayed Friday on 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC). Billy Bush and Kit Hoover asked Shelton about his fellow 'Voice' judge Christina Aguilera, and her penchant for ribbing Shelton and Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine. What is her motivation? "She wants us," Shelton deadpanned. Shelton proceeded to tell a story about how 'The Voice' producers encourage the judges to use Twitter during commercial breaks to reach out to fans, and one viewer, like Billy Bush, thought that Aguilera should do more to cover up her cleavage. Shelton disagreed. "I was like, why would anybody ever tell her to ever do that?" he said.
Aliens (and Christina Aguilera) Attack the Talking TV Podcast
by Maureen Ryan, posted Jun 17th 2011 1:00PM
This week's second Talking TV with Ryan and Ryan podcast is a bit of an odd mixture. Ryan McGee and I talk about 'The Voice,' NBC's hit singing show, 'Falling Skies,' an alien invasion drama that arrives on TNT Sunday, and 'Outcasts,' another sci-fi drama that premieres on Saturday on BBC America. (By the way, the photo here is of Colin Cunningham, who is one of the best things, if not the best thing, about 'Falling Skies').Running times for the podcast are below. In case you missed it, in the podcast we recorded earlier in the week, we talked all 'Doctor Who,' all the time.
Liza Minnelli Helps Judge the Finalists on 'Today's Voice' (VIDEO)
by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 15th 2011 2:30PM
On a slick, well-produced reality show like 'The Voice,' every second of an announcement is timed to wring as much drama from the proceedings as possible. There are dramatic pauses, lighting cues, and the producer's favorite technique, holding the announcement until after the commercial break. When Liza Minnelli came on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC) to help judge the finalists for the 'Today's Voice' competition, she took a more direct approach, albeit by accident.Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb each have teams of singers they work with and "train," just like 'The Voice.' Wednesday, Minnelli choose who would move on in the competition after everyone had performed. Without any frills, Minnelli just looked at the paper and read the name. She was supposed to have read the results for "Team KLG" first, but instead announced from Kotb's group. She was quickly corrected and wound up announcing that winner twice. Hey, a comedy of errors counts as comedy, right?
Cee Lo Green Channels Sly Stone on 'The Voice' (VIDEO)
by Catherine Lawson, posted Jun 15th 2011 7:50AM
We've reached the Quarterfinals round on 'The Voice' (Tue., 10PM ET on NBC) so everyone's pulling out all the stops in their live performances. This week it was the turn of Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green to each take to their stage with their team for a group performance.
Maroon 5 frontman Levine chose the classic 'With a Little Help From My Friends,' which his team performed with the help of a high school gospel choir singing backup.
Team Cee Lo chose to stay in the '60s, and knocked it out of the park with an exuberant -- if possibly over-accessorized -- rendition of Sly and the Family Stone's 1968 hit, 'Everyday People.'
'The Voice' Predictions: Who Will Be Eliminated From Team Christina & Team Blake Tonight?
by Maggie Furlong, posted Jun 14th 2011 5:30PM
Tonight on 'The Voice,' we'll say goodbye to two contestants from both Team Christina and Team Blake. But who will it be?
Last week's first live performance show was a strong one, with Christina Aguilera's team of ladies -- Beverly McClellan, Frenchie Davis, Lily Elise and Raquel Castro -- battling it out in between performing 'Lady Marmalade' with their coach.

We also saw Blake Shelton's team -- down to Patrick Thomas, Xenia, Dia Frampton and Jared Blake -- perform strong solos before belting out Maroon 5's hit 'This Love' with their country star coach.
I voted online, and I'm dangerously close to downloading a few of the songs on iTunes as well -- a sure sign of obsession -- but I'm still not sure how the eliminations will play out.
