Tim Gunn Reveals Why He's Not Part of 'Project Runway All Stars'

by Crystal Bell, posted Dec 7th 2011 1:30PM
tim gunn project runway all starsWhen the cast of 'Project Runway All Stars' was announced, a few big names were surprisingly missing -- host and judge Heidi Klum, mentor Tim Gunn, and judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia. Instead, supermodel Angela Lindvall will host the competition and Marie Claire editor-in-chief Joanna Coles will play mentor.

Fans have been wondering how 'Project Runway' can make it work without its big names. But now, we finally have an answer as to why Tim and co. didn't sign on for 'All Stars.'

"'Project Runway All Stars' overlapped with the taping of 'Project Runway' Season 9," Gunn told AOL TV, while promoting his partnership with Weight Watchers. "Someone actually thought that Heidi, Nina, Michael and I could run back-and-forth, from one place to the next, and I said, 'Look, I'm not speaking for Heidi or Michael or Nina because I can't. But I can speak for me. When I'm doing 'Project Runway,' I feel as though I'm overseeing an emergency room and that anything can happen. You want me to oversee two emergency rooms? That would put both shows at risk. That cannot happen."

Joshua Targets Bert With His Drama on 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 9th 2011 1:40AM
'Project Runway'Bert was the last one picked for a team on this week's 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime), but it wasn't Bert who created the most drama and shut down progress on a fairly regular basis. That said, he was involved, as Joshua had chosen the older contestant as the latest target of his pointless tirade.

Joshua's point of contention with Bert this week? "I feel people who have dirty mouths," Joshua said, "they're not intelligent." In frustration with the printer, Bert said, "So much for my f****** clocks." Ergo, Bert's an idiot.

Joshua even lashed out at Tim Gunn, and nobody yells at Tim Gunn. He's just far too polished for that.

Olivier Wants to Glue His Dress to the Model on 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 2nd 2011 2:30AM
'Project Runway'We're certainly not designers, but even we could have guessed that gluing a dress to your model is never a good idea. Olivier was running out of time and was concerned the top of his dress would fall down, so he came up with this brilliant idea on 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime).

!!SPOILER ALERT!!

Luckily, Tim Gunn caught wind of it before he had completely slathered the model's chest with glue. He showed up to advise Olivier that this is clearly against the rules. The clothing must stay up of its own accord, which you would think is kind of obvious.

Bert and Viktor Clash Over a Dress on 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 12th 2011 2:30PM
Tim Gunn looks at Bert and Viktor's dress on 'Project Runway'When you're striving to separate yourself from the pack on a reality show competition, having to work with a partner can be a tough proposition. That seems especially true on 'Project Runway' (Thursdays, 9PM on Lifetime), where it's difficult enough turning your style into an actual physical piece of clothing without having to meld that with someone else's ideas. Viktor Luna and Bert Keeter struggled with that tension on Thursday's episode, and didn't exactly rise to the occasion.

The pair partnered to make what looked like two different dresses on the top and bottom, and argued over it throughout the whole process. "I wanted to do a contemporary look, and he was that, 'Well, I really think we should do this,'" said Keeter. "And I had some other idea, and, no, 'this is what we have to do.'" Luna, of course, saw just the opposite, that it was Keeter's obstinacy that was the problem.

'The Biggest Loser: Couples' Season 11, Episode 18 Recap

by Jason Hughes, posted May 4th 2011 10:45AM
Tim Gunn, 'The Biggest Loser'['The Biggest Loser' - 'Week Eighteen']

It's Makeover Week on 'The Biggest Loser'! And to kick it off in style was none other than fashion guru Tim Gunn himself. Gunn arrived in style in a horse-drawn carriage, and announced himself as the contestants' fairy godfather.

With the lofty title came the power to grant them three gifts throughout this week's episode. As we only had an hour because of the second episode of 'The Voice,' there wasn't much time spent on their hair and wardrobe shopping. Basically, we got right down to the reveals.

Later, the contestants discovered there were two cars to be won, which is pretty solid odds considering there were only five people left. And then we had a very memorable weigh-in for two reasons, and both of them created very happy moments. It was a feel-good episode all around. Well, except for that yellow line.

Makeover Week Is Full of Surprises, And Tim Gunn, on 'The Biggest Loser' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 4th 2011 1:19AM
Tim Gunn, 'The Biggest Loser'"Makeover Week" is always a highlight of 'The Biggest Loser' (Tue., 8PM ET on NBC). It's great to see all the blood, sweat and tears the contestants have poured into their workouts pay off with fantastic new looks. Plus, those emotional reunions with loved ones who are always stunned at the beautiful transformations.

With a double-elimination last week, there were only five contestants to fix up this week, and it was a good thing too as they only had an hour to get through this episode.

That's one hour for a makeover with Tim Gunn -- their self-stylized fairy godfather -- a concert from One Republic, a car challenge and a memorable weigh-in.

Jennifer Hudson on 'Oprah': Tim Gunn Compliments Her Post-Weight Loss Style (VIDEO)

Tim Gunn and Jennifer Hudson on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show'Tim Gunn and Jennifer Hudson were both on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' (Weekdays, Syndicated) today talking about Hudson's style and new, slim look. Hudson is now a spokesperson for Weight Watchers, and Gunn, a notoriously harsh critic, had nothing but compliments on her post-weight loss style.

"I have to say, though, Jennifer, before the weight loss, stunning, gorgeous woman. Beautiful," said Gunn. "But since the weight loss, I mean, staggering. I mean, absolutely, positively staggering."

Who Won 'Project Runway' Season 8? (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Oct 29th 2010 5:45AM
Who Won 'Project Runway' Season 8?The goal of 'Project Runway' -- as described by Tim Gunn's catchphrase -- is to "Make it work." Of course, it's a lot of work to make it work, and not everyone can handle it. Some players don't have the talent, some don't have the drive. It takes 14 weeks to sort the good from the bad.

But nothing lasts forever -- not even the lengthiest season of 'Runway' ever. And so we reached the finale (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime). Three finalists remained: Andy South, Gretchen Jones, and Mondo Guerra. Who would win? Heidi Klum called it the "toughest decision" in the show's history -- but really, it was and it wasn't.

[Warning: Spoiler alert.]

'Project Runway' Season 8, Episode 13 Recap

by Michael Pascua, posted Oct 22nd 2010 6:00AM
Mondo[Project Runway - 'Finale, Part 1']

With only a week to go before the finale of 'Project Runway' the contestants fought for positions. Heidi announced that they had $9,000 and six weeks to create a ten-piece collection. Clearly it was not enough time or money for these contestants to create anything breathtaking or amazing.

While Season Six had the same budget, those designers had a lot more time to think about their collections. These contestants needed time to go back and think about things longer. Andy had the biggest handicap because the fabrics he ordered arrived three weeks into his six-week process. Some of Tim's visits seemed too last-minute, where you couldn't save a sinking ship.

I finally appreciated the evolution of Gretchen throughout the season. While her clothes maintained the hippy/granola aesthetic, her bitchy and aggressive nature covered up the fact that she was having trouble at home. She looked like she was closer to the other finalists than she did in the first few episodes, and she was all hugs at the end of the episode.

Christopher and Michael Costello['Project Runway' - 'Race to the Finish']

Why did Heidi even show up at the beginning of 'Project Runway'? The contestants haven't done a model swap in weeks and she hasn't announced a challenge in weeks, leaving all the bitch-work for Tim. It's not like she was pregnant with her fourteenth child.

Anyway, with the help of always-available Collier Strong, Tim announced a challenge where the contestants had to make a high fashion dress that would be feature in a two-page advertorial.

Similar to a high-stakes challenge on 'Top Chef', the designers had the chance to win $20,000. It was a way to light a fire under them because the designs have been getting sleepier and sleepier as the episodes pass by. As last week's winner Mondo got to choose first, and then Tim pulled out the rest of the names.

Gunn acted as a roving correspondent at the Central Park-set event, chatting up the men and women who were daring enough to make a fashion statement while dashing around in three-inch and higher heels. The event brought in $63,000 for the Heart Truth campaign for women's heart health, research and education.

AOL'S TV Squad was on the scene to take in all the spills and thrills the race had to offer.

Plus, we got a few minutes with Gunn himself and he did not hold back. Find out what he had to say about those infamous Taylor Momsen quotes, Lindsay Lohan's prison fashion, Lady Gaga's show-stopping meat dress and how much he enjoyed the High Heel-a-Thon. Check out the video below!

'Project Runway' Designer Has 'Waterloo' Moment (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Sep 17th 2010 9:30AM
Tim Gunn Calls 'Project Runway' Design a 'Waterloo'On 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on LIFE), designing an American sportswear look and corresponding outerwear influenced by Jackie Kennedy Onassis' style was one contestant's "Waterloo," said Tim Gunn. The eliminated designer didn't know what that meant. But Gunn's point was clear: The challenge led to the contestant's demise -- and most of the remaining candidates failed at the task as well.

Of the losing finalists, Valerie got in trouble for designing a "jacket over a jacket," while Michael D.'s outfit was "an unfortunate mismatch and your proportions were way off," said host/judge Heidi Klum.

Still, Klum seemed very disappointed to see the particular designer "auf'd" from the show, as did Gunn. The loser, however, had a positive outlook.

Tim Gunn on His 'Gossip Girl' Cameo: Taylor Momsen's 'Pathetic,' Everyone Else Is a 'Delight'

by Jean Bentley, posted Sep 15th 2010 10:45AM
Tim GunnBy now, the contestants on 'Project Runway' know better than to ignore the advice from wise sage Tim Gunn. So perhaps notoriously independent 'Gossip Girl' 17-year-old star Taylor Momsen will listen to Gunn's guidance as well.

When making a cameo appearance on 'GG''s fourth episode this season, Gunn observed Momsen's bratty behavior firsthand."What a diva!" he told E! News. "She was pathetic; she couldn't remember her lines; and she didn't even have that many. I thought to myself, 'Why are we all being held hostage by this brat?' "

Tim Gunn: Fashion Diva Anna Wintour Made Employees Carry Her Around (VIDEO)

Tim Gunn: Fashion Diva Anna Wintour Made Employees Carry Her Around'Project Runway' host Tim Gunn appeared on the latest 'Daily Show' (weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central). While speaking with Jon Stewart, Gunn dished about some of the stranger things he's seen in the fashion world. This included an occasion when 'Vogue' editor Anna Wintour -- the rumored inspiration for the evil boss in 'The Devil Wears Prada' -- had her employees carry her down five flights of stairs.

Gunn witnessed this event at a fashion show in 2006. Wintour was wearing very high heels, and didn't feel like walking around in them anymore. Rather than, say, taking the elevator like a common person -- or even descending the stairs herself, she made her bodyguards lift her in their arms, and carry her from landing to landing, down to the ground floor. The absurdity didn't end there. According to Gunn, Ms. Wintour then had her employees carry her out to her car!
