Bill Rancic Tells 'Today' That Giuliana Is Doing Well After Cancer Surgery (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Oct 20th 2011 9:45AM
Giuliana Rancic shocked Ann Curry when she announced live on Monday's 'Today Show' that she has breast cancer. The next day she underwent a double lumpectomy and had some lymph nodes removed, and her husband Bill spoke to Curry this morning about the surgery and how his wife's doing.

Bill said they're both doing okay, and that Giuliana expects to return to work next week. He also thanked viewers at home on her behalf for all their support: "It's definitely helped Giuliana get through this." The two-hour surgery went well and Giuliana is now recuperating at home.

Bill said that although it was "heartbreaking" to see her have to undergo the surgery, "we're looking at this as a gift" because the cancer was detected in the very early stages. He also said it's helped the couple focus on what's important in life.

Al Roker Botches Savannah Guthrie's Name (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 19th 2011 1:30PM
'Today' (9AM ET on NBC) hosts Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie have known each other for years, and Roker apparently has a habit of making fun of her first name behind-the-scenes.

But the inside joke recently slipped out in front of the camera, albeit unintentionally, when Roker accepted a toss from Guthrie by saying, "Thanks so much, Samantha." She and the producers seized on the gaffe immediately, and Guthrie seemed delighted to rub Roker's miscue in.

"I knew you would do it one of these days! ... Finally it leaked out on air ... We caught you," Guthrie teased.

Roker could only respond with resigned laughter. "I was gonna go with Susquehanna," he joked.

Kathie Lee Tells Deena and Sammi She Can't Tell the 'Jersey Shore' Guys Apart (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 18th 2011 12:50PM
Ahead of the 'Jersey Shore' finale, Sammi and Denna stopped by the fourth hour of 'Today' (weekdays, 9AM ET on NBC) for a chat with Kathie Lee and Hoda. They watched some slow-motion footage of Deena falling on her face, briefly bonded over their shared love of booze, and then Kathie Lee told them she couldn't tell the 'Jersey Shore' guys apart.

About mid-way through the interview, it became entertainingly clear that neither host has been keeping up with the show, as Hoda asked if they were dating anyone, either from 'Jersey Shore' or outside it. When the producers put a graphic of Ronnie up on the screen, Kathie Lee asked, "Are you guys fighting over him? Who is that, Paulie D?"

'Today' Labiaplasty Discussion Gets Awkward For Everyone Involved (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 14th 2011 1:30PM
Before Kathie Lee and Hoda could even get started on their discussion of an apparently increasingly popular surgical procedure called a Labiaplasty, the 'Today' (weekdays, 9AM ET on NBC) camera crew started talking amongst themselves and giggling. Clearly, they could sense the awkwardness that was soon to come, as Hoda was too uncomfortable to talk about it and Kathie Lee outed her mother for having the procedure.

"Hey guys, we don't know what's going on over there, but it must be far more fascinating than what's going on over here," Kathie Lee admonished, before embarking on the awkward talk. "I don't want to talk about this next topic," Hoda said. "If you do, feel free."

Al Roker Nurses Sore Jaw After Getting 'Punched' By Michelle Obama in Leno Bit (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 14th 2011 12:00PM
Yesterday, Al Roker interviewed first lady Michelle Obama about physical fitness at a record-breaking jumping-jack event. In their discussion about her workout regimen, the first lady revealed that she likes to sometimes mix in a little boxing.

On 'The Tonight Show,' Jay Leno had some fun with the segment, editing the video to make it appear that Mrs. Obama clocked Roker in the jaw with a left-hook.

Friday on 'Today,' (weekdays, 9AM ET on NBC) the gang razzed Roker about getting "punched" by the first lady. Roker got a good laugh watching the clip, and joked that his jaw was still sore. "And I thought she liked me," he lamented. Now if only the first lady could do the same to Congress, the president might be able to get his jobs bill passed.

Kathie Lee and Hoda Accept Their Emmys, But Aren't Sure They Deserve Them (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 13th 2011 2:00PM
After years of toiling on 'Today,' (weekdays, 9AM ET on NBC), drinking cocktails and interviewing celebrities, Kathie Lee and Hoda finally won an Emmy. Well, sort of. 'Today' won the Emmy for Outstanding Morning Show Program, and even the fourth hour's hosts themselves weren't quite sure they deserved the statues.

"[It's] kind of embarrassing that we get one too. I mean, the people on the earlier hours actually work hard and deserve them, but because we are technically part of the show, they had to give them to us!" Kathie Lee exclaimed.

"It was definitely by default ... but we'll take it," Hoda replied.

Linda Evans Assures Ann Curry That She Doesn't Actually Hate Joan Collins (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 12th 2011 2:00PM
Yesterday, Savannah Guthrie and Natalie Morales prepared for 'Today''s (weekdays, 9AM ET on NBC) interview with former 'Dynasty' star Linda Evans by staging a hair-pulling catfight of their own. Wednesday, Evans stopped by the studio herself to relive the classic scene with Ann Curry.

Curry asked if it was hard for Evans to be so hateful to Joan Collins, and Evans seemed taken aback by the implication. "I love to do stunts ... Barbara Stanwick got me involved in stunts when I did 'Big Valley,' so this was a lot of fun, it has nothing to do with hate, it was just choreographed," she protested.

'Today' Anchors Prepare for Linda Evans Interview With 'Dynasty'-Style Catfight (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 11th 2011 3:00PM
TV hosts will normally do anything to ensure their hair doesn't get ruffled. But to prepare for their interview tomorrow with former 'Dynasty' star Linda Evans, 'Today' (weekdays, 9AM ET on NBC) co-hosts Natalie Morales and Savannah Guthrie got into an old-fashioned, hair-pulling catfight ... in jest, of course.

After playing footage of the classic 'Dynasty' department store throw-down between Evans and Joan Collins, Guthrie and Morales were inspired to fake slap, hair-pull and strangle each other.

"It looks like so much fun!" Guthrie exclaimed, fighting through laughter.

Matt Lauer set himself up for a flirtatious interview when he introduced Paula Deen as "TV's sexiest female chef." That set the tone for a 'Today' (weekdays, 9AM ET on NBC) cooking segment that was supposed to be about mashed potatoes but ended up being more about Deen getting handsy in the kitchen.

"Why do you like buttermilk in so many recipes?" Lauer asked. "The buttermilk gives it a little tang, just a little bite," Deen replied, squeezing his cheek. "You get named the sexiest chef on TV and start flirting with everybody," Lauer quipped.

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 7th 2011 12:30PM
The 'Today' (weekdays, 9AM ET on NBC) gang celebrated Oktoberfest by playing a classic German game called masskrug, where participants have to hold out a full, 1-liter beer stein parallel to the ground without spilling. It's a physical challenge that traditionally has accompanied a drinking extravaganza.

While twenty minutes is the world record, Al Roker, Ann Curry, Savannah Guthrie all lasted just over a minute. Guest-host Kim Kardashian tapped out first, around the 50 second mark. At one point Matt Lauer busted Al Roker's chops, asking him, "Is that a light beer?"

Bryan Cranston On What He's Learned From Playing Walter White on 'Breaking Bad' (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 6th 2011 1:00PM
As 'Breaking Bad' nears its intense and climactic Season 4 finale, Bryan Cranston went on 'Today' (weekdays, 9AM ET on NBC) to talk about his character Walter White's descent into meth-dealing gangsterism.

White's de-evolution from a cancer-stricken high school chemistry teacher to a ruthless meth-dealer is rapidly accelerating, and Cranston spoke about what he's learned from playing such a morally ambiguous character. "It really isn't about glorifying drug use or drug making ... it's about a man's poor decision-making. What I've learned from this experience is that anyone, even the meekest person among us, could become a horrible, dangerous person," he told Matt Lauer.

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 5th 2011 1:20PM
Kris Jenner is making the daytime guest-hosting rounds this week in advance of Kim Kardashian's weekend wedding special. On 'Today,' (weekdays, 9AM ET on NBC) her conversation with Hoda turned to her daughters' habit of marrying guys after not too long a courtship period. Kris responded that while it may seem like Khloe and and Kim got married to NBA players Lamar Odom and Kris Humphries quickly, she and Bruce Jenner only dated for five months before tying the knot.

The discussion then veered into uncomfortable territory, as Hoda why Kourtney was bucking the family trend and not yet married to boyfriend and baby-daddy Scott Disick, who was conveniently standing off-camera. "Well what's wrong with Scott ... why aren't you married?" she asked, opening up a can of words.
