Natalie Morales Rides a Dragon on 'Today' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Mar 26th 2010 4:29PM
Let's face it. We all want to learn how to ride dragons. But so few of us ever get the chance. But on the most recent episode of 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC), correspondent Natalie Morales got to live out all our dreams, riding on top of an enormous replica of a dragon from the new film 'How to Train Your Dragon.'

So what is the experience of riding a huge dragon actually like? According to Morales, "I feel like I'm on one of those little kids' rides. You know; you put the quarter in and go." Excellent. And thank you, Natalie, for living out all of our nerd fantasies for us.

James Spader Has No Qualms About Playing a Fairy (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Mar 26th 2010 3:52PM
James Spader Considers Playing a FairyOn Friday's 'The Today Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC), James Spader discussed the difficult casting decisions that all actors must face. He's currently on Broadway in David Mamet's 'Race,' about three attorneys offered the chance to defend a black man against a white woman.

Not one to let a serious matter stop her, host Kathie Lee Gifford asked Spader "Then why didn't you want to play like a little fairy in 'Midsummer Night's Dream' as opposed to being a lawyer again?"

Spader seemed surprisingly on board with the idea of playing a fairy, even suggesting that his character in 'Race' could sprout wings. As the segment progressed, it had the most uses of the word "fairy-- without any sexual innuendo attached to it -- that you've ever heard.

by Harley W. Lond, posted Mar 8th 2010 8:41PM
Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe was walking to her hotel room early Monday morning (after a night of post-Oscar partying, we would assume) and the 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET NBC) producers grabbed her to appear on the show despite her obvious lack of sleep. Her reward for enduring Al Roker's questions: a foot massage by Meredith Vieira.

Maureen McCormick and Eve Plumb Feud Cancels 'Brady Bunch' Reunion

by Danny Gallagher, posted Mar 1st 2010 8:00PM
The Brady Bunch opening All of the Brady kids were supposed to make a grand reunion on 'Today' this morning, but an old sibling rivalry prevented the magic from happening.

Eve Plumb and Maureen McCormick
, who played Jan and Marcia respectively on 'The Brady Bunch,' haven't been getting along. When the two learned they would have to share the same stage with each other for more than five minutes, the whole thing broke down.

Some blame the feud over McCormick's seedy tell-all book in which she alleges the two had feelings for each other, but others say the feud goes back much further.

by Donald Deane, posted Jan 13th 2010 11:00AM
On 'Today,' Richard Simmons and William Shatner had an uncomfortable encounter which ultimately prompted the fitness personality to walk off the set.

Simmons initially pretended not to notice that cameras were rolling and held Shatner's arm, nuzzled into his neck and mouthed the words "I love you." But then Simmons acknowledged his antics were being televised and moved away from Shatner, opening a newspaper and announcing a desire to thumb through the sports page in an affected deep voice.

by Elizabeth Chan, posted Dec 15th 2009 3:29PM
Cori RistIt's starting to get confusing to keep track of all of Tiger's mistresses, but at least we can rely on their introductions on 'The Today Show.' Cori Rist is the latest paramour to come out of the "woodswork." She wants to make it clear that she's not a hostess, a waitress or a hooker, but a stay-at-home mom who caught the eye of the Tiger.

Al Roker plots Morning Show Murders

by Danny Gallagher, posted Nov 23rd 2009 8:35PM
Who would have thought that America's happiest person in the morning could create such a diabolical series of grizzly murders?

Maybe that's because he has to work in the morning. I know if I had to get up every morning at the ass-crack of dawn, I'd be sharping my kitchen knives every night.

The Today show host and weatherman has written a mystery murder novel titled The Morning Show Murders about a morning show host who does cooking segments and is suspected of murdering his executive producer.

I'll bet the weatherman did it.

Hoda and Kathie Lee want Bob to e-mail them his dirty secret

by Joel Keller, posted Sep 2nd 2009 5:01PM
Loyal TV Squad readers will recall that Bob wrote a post yesterday that criticized the ever-annoying Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford for the lame "dirty secrets" they gave during the lighter-than-air fourth hour of Today that morning (they originally talked about "bad habits," which turned into a talk about "dirty secrets"). For those who care: Hoda doesn't wash her hair that often and Kathie Lee doesn't floss as much as she should. I know: scandalous, right?

Anyway, at the beginning of their first segment this morning, the hosts called Bob and TV Squad out on his post -- initially they said he "wrote in," as if Bob's sitting at his computer writing angry e-mails to the Today show staff -- and invited him to e-mail them his dirty secret:

The View goes cooky over the Cookie Monster

by Danny Gallagher, posted Aug 11th 2009 12:02PM
cookie monsterThose combative ladies on The View have another bee floating around in their Marge Simpson size bonnets. This story, however, caused perhaps the most egregious and heated debate/clusterf#*$ of noise in the show's history.

Cookie Monster has been in "cookie rehab" of sorts for about three years now. The View ladies finally caught wind of it and went off on a three minute tear about it using voices that are normally reserved for members of WTO protests or people who are on fire.

How bad did it get? Elisabeth Hasselbeck was the "good cop."

Kathie Lee & Hoda play a game - Is this real life?

by Eliot Glazer, posted Jun 30th 2009 10:03AM
kathie lee gifford hoda kotb today showLook, we have just about as good an idea as you as to what happens on the eleventh fourth hour of the Today show. Hoda Kotb (who won a Peabody Award) and Kathie Lee Gifford (who is loud) sit together, morning after morning, drinking, chatting, and generally swishing about in a televisual escapade that brings into the mix - among other things - Facebook, "cougars," breast cancer, and wine. Needless to say, we will be first in line when they invite a studio audience (although the appeal of hearing camera men laugh at Kathie Lee's menopausal delirium stands very well on its own).

Considering that we don't get to watch the show as often as we'd like, we very much appreciate being steered by The Soup toward a clip taken from a segment on Today called "I Got Played."

Brian Williams puts in his hour at Today - VIDEOS

by Joel Keller, posted Feb 20th 2009 2:00PM
Brian and Matt sitting in a tree...Seeing Brian Williams sitting next to Matt Lauer on Today was a bit disconcerting, wasn't it? I knew NBC was having some budget problems, but I didn't realize how thin of a bench they actually had. Williams subbed in for Meredith Vieira, but only stayed on the show for an hour, as I'd imagine he'd rather spend the 8:00 hour putting together tonight's Nightly News lineup than talk about ten ways to keep your car running or what Drew Peterson ate for breakfast.

Anyway, Williams was at times a bit too stuffy for the morning gig, but his famous sense of humor showed through a number of times, including the clips after the jump. The first one is a clip reel of some strangely homoerotic interplay between Williams and Lauer, which Al Roker called "a Whitman's Sampler of man candy." The second one is of Lauer, Williams, and Natalie Morales making their Oscar picks.
