COLBERT launches into space tonight

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 25th 2009 6:02PM
The Space Shuttle Discovery was supposed to launch around 1:30 this morning, but bad weather in Florida means it has been put off until the same time tonight. On board will be the COLBERT, the Combined Operational Load Bearing External Resistance Treadmill, named after the host of a certain late night comedy show. In this video, that host thanks NASA.

Update: tonight's launch has been scrubbed.

Stephen Colbert treadmill

OK, so Stephen Colbert couldn't get NASA to name a room on the International Space Station after him, but they did the next best thing. Well, no. I guess the next best thing would have been to have a shuttle or a satellite or possibly a bespectacled robot named after him, but they did name a treadmill after him! And here it is.

Not particularly exciting at first glance, but hey, it's a space treadmill!

And now, an artist, a treadmill, and a fat naked guy

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 2nd 2006 9:18AM

Let's Paint and Exercise TVI truly don't understand what the hell this is all about. And I'm scared.

It's Let's Paint and Exercise TV, a cable show where an artist in a suit runs on a treadmill for one minute and paints a picture of a fat naked guy sitting in a chair with a crown on. Seriously, that's the show. I don't see any "how to" aspect of the show, like those old Bob Ross shows on PBS I used to love to watch, it's just a guy in a suit, running on a treadmill, painting a naked guy. It's live, and they take phone calls.

It's either ridiculous or utter genius. But we could probably put any three things together and make a show. I suggest some TV Squad readers upload a video of a guy eating Hostess Twinkies, riding a tricycle, while a girl in a hockey outfit types a short story.

Here's more video of the show.
