Carrie Preston Previews Her Different 'Law & Order: SVU' Role and 'Good Wife' Future

by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 15th 2011 3:00PM
Carrie Preston Law and Order SVU InterviewCarrie Preston describes herself as a chameleon actress, and for good reason. Known for serving up drinks with a side of sass as Arelne on HBO's 'True Blood,' Preston has used her hiatus from the popular vampire series to book a series of dramatic roles on top network shows.

After a recent stop on 'The Good Wife,' in which she received raved reviews (both AOL TV and EW thought she deserved an Emmy nomination), Preston will next be seen on NBC's 'Law & Order: SVU.'

In 'Educated Guess' (Wed., Nov. 16, 10PM ET on NBC), Preston plays Bella, the aunt of a troubled young woman, Gia, played by Natasha Lyonne. Bella and her husband George (Tim Guinee) took in Bella's sister, Diane (J. Smith Cameron) and Gia after some family problems.

"All the series regulars are wonderful on this show and it was really fun having these guest stars to share the experience with," Preston told AOL TV.

So, is her 'SVU' character like Arlene or her 'Good Wife' character Elsbeth Tascioni? Not so much, Preston said.

"She's much more uptight and has some co-dependency issues and some controlling issues, I think," Preston said.

Find out what else the 'SVU' guest star had to say about working on the show, her future on 'The Good Wife' and what's next on 'True Blood' below. Plus, exclusive first-look video of Preston in action with the 'SVU' detectives.

Alexander Skarsgard On His 'True Blood' Menage a Trois

by Mike Ryan, posted Nov 9th 2011 6:30PM
Alexander Skarsgard is well aware that he can't be the scoundrelly yet, at times, amiable, vampire Eric Northman forever. That's not to say that he hasn't enjoyed his time on 'True Blood'; he has, even if that does include filming an occasional ménage à trois with real-life husband and wife Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin. But he also realizes that continuing to play the versions of Eric Northman he's continuously offered -- "without the fangs," he admits -- is, as Skarsgard puts it, "creative suicide." In other words: nothing a Lars von Trier movie won't fix.

Read on for an excerpted Q&A with Skarsgard, and check out the entire conversation over at Moviefone.

'True Blood' Star Kristin Bauer Gets Even Witchier for 'Once Upon a Time'

by Maggie Furlong, posted Oct 29th 2011 11:00AM
Kristin Bauer on 'Once Upon a Time'Fairy tale fans, make room for Maleficent!

'True Blood''s resident bitch in heels, Kristin Bauer van Straten, is stopping by 'Once Upon a Time' (Sun., Oct. 30, 8PM ET on ABC) to play someone even witchier. Maleficent is best known as the dark and twisted villainess of 'Sleeping Beauty,' but on ABC's new fairy tale drama, she'll face off with Lana Parilla's Evil Queen.

I caught up with Bauer -- who teased me with 'True Blood' Season 5 knowledge before I could even beg for it -- to hear more about the self-proclaimed "Mistress of all Evil" and her equally evil TV rival.

She also teased a possible return to the fairy tale land, and admitted which fellow guest star made her go all fangirl.

There's no trouble in paradise for Mitch and Cam, the flirtation is all part of a bet the couple make. It seems Mitch doesn't think Cam can pass for straight and get a hot girl's number, that's where Mann's character comes in.

Look for the 'Knocked Up' actress to appear during November sweeps.

Number of Gay Characters on TV Declines

by Chris Harnick, posted Sep 28th 2011 11:30AM
The Good Wife, GleeThe number of gay characters on broadcast TV shows is down, according to a new report from GLAAD. And in a surprising turn, Fox has become the most LGBT-inclusive TV network, toppling ABC.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance's "Where We Are on TV" report found that the overall number of LGBT series regulars on scripted TV is down to 2.9 percent. It was at 3.9 percent during the 2010-2011 season.

"While the number of LGBT characters is down, some of the most popular shows with critics and viewers such as 'Glee,' 'True Blood' and 'The Good Wife' weave storylines about gay and lesbian characters into the fabric of the show," Mike Thompson, acting president of GLAAD Acting, said in a statement. "Whether it's the growing household of Mitchell and Cameron on 'Modern Family' or the recent wedding of Callie and Arizona on 'Grey's Anatomy,' Americans expect to see the diversity of our country represented in their favorite programs and that includes gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people."

Sookie Decides Between Bill and Eric on the 'True Blood' Season Finale (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 12th 2011 4:06AM
'True Blood' - 'And When I Die'Sure, 'True Blood' (Sun., 9PM ET on HBO) is one of the most violent and gory shows on television, but at its heart it's still a love story.

What started as the story of Sookie's unlikely love affair with a vampire expanded into a love triangle between her and two vampires. In this season finale, she finally made a decision.

!!SPOILER ALERT!!

But before that could happen, there was Marnie to deal with. I have to say that once she jumped into Lafayette, I expected her to be a lot more difficult to deal with. And then she managed to take Jesus' demon spirit ... should she have been so easy to dispatch? I mean, Holly, Tara and Sookie?

'True Blood': The Standoff Ends, But Is It Truly Over? (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 6th 2011 2:28AM
'True Blood' - 'Soul of Fire'For the first time in 'True Blood' (Sun., 9PM ET on HBO), we are heading into the season finale without a real clear idea of what's going to be happening.

In previous seasons there was a slow build toward a confrontation with that season's "big bad" that went down in the season finale. Not so this year.

At least, not in the traditional sense, as that major confrontation happened this week. At the end of last week's battle, Marnie pulled Lafayette, Jesus and Sookie inside the shop, while Eric, Bill, Jessica and Pam were ready to bring the battle to them from the outside.

'True Blood': Bill vs. Eric Leads to Vampires vs. Marnie (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 29th 2011 5:26AM
'True Blood' - 'Burning Down the House'Sookie really needs to figure out how those powers of hers work on 'True Blood' (Sun., 9PM ET on HBO). Just imagine what she could do if she could not only use them at will but know what they were going to do.

In this case, she could have probably cured Eric long ago, though in retrospect that might not be the smartest move. The Eric she fell in love with was the broken Eric. The Eric she stopped from killing Bill was under Marnie's spell, but Sookie's white power blast cured him of every spell Marnie had put on him.

Then Sookie told him about her mixed feelings for both Bill and him, while Eric 3.0 admitted that he loved her and acted a lot more like Eric 2.0 than Eric 1.0, to Pam's shock and dismay. He did, however, suit up and find his inner cold-hearted jerk a little later when Tara's life was on the line as Bill planned his frontal assault on Antonia.
