New TV on DVD releases this week

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.I guess this is a good week to find out what type of TV fan you are. Are you going to be Callan or are you going to buy Bridget's Sexiest Beaches?
The only thing I might buy is the remastered edition of You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. I can't remember the last time I saw it, but I've been on a Peanuts kick lately. Though it's a lot of singing and dancing (it's based on the classic Broadway musical) and I'm not sure if I can handle that.
- Bridget's Sexiest Beaches - Season 1
- Callan - Set 2
- Dirty Jobs - Collection 5
- Inspector Lewis - Complete Collection, Series 1 & 2

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.Defying Gravity is one of those shows where I said "oh, I have to start watching that," and then it was gone from ABC. I guess there have been several shows like that in recent years. I can say the same thing about Damages and Durham County, but at least those two shows are still around.
Guess I'm interested in shows that begin with the letter D this week.
- 21 Jump Street - Season 1
- Cranford: Return to Cranford and The Collection (Cranford/Return to Cranford)
- Dallas - Season 12
- Damages - Season 2
- Defying Gravity - Complete Series
- Durham County - Season 1

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow. So after a few weeks of not many DVDs being released, this week has a little something for everyone: old dramas (Route 66), 90s sitcoms (Becker), cartoons (The Simpsons and Bugs Bunny), car lovers (Top Gear), and even a 25th anniversary set for Transformers.
However, if you feel the need to buy season 5 of Jon & Kate Plus 8 ... well, I don't know what to say.
- 10 Things I Hate About You - Vol.1
- Becker - Season 3
- Bugs Bunny - Cupid Capers
- ER - Season 12

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow. This week's DVD releases should answer the question that fans of The Philanthropist might have had the past several months: "Is the show coming back for another season?" Since the set released this week is a "Complete Series" set, I'm going to say no.
I might buy the Super Friends set (I used to spell it as one word - SuperFriends - but I guess it's two). I have a lot of fond memories of watching the show when I was a kid in the 70s.

- Big Love - Season 3
- Burn Notice - Season 1 and 2 set
- Chuck - Season 2

- Kendra - Season 1

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow. So this week we have Glee, which is releasing Volume 1 of their first season before the first season is even over. Most shows don't do this, but FOX feels they can capitalize on the popularity of the show and the popularity of the soundtrack. FlashForward is doing the same thing before the rest of their season launches in January, though I don't think that they will have the same success as Glee.
And to answer your question, no, I'm not sure what Emily of New Moon is either. Here's the IMDb page for it. It has nothing to do with Twilight.
- Emily of New Moon - Season 2
- Glee - Season 1, Vol. 1
- Spaceballs - Totally Warped-Up Adventures
- Time Warp - Season 2
- The United States of Tara - Season 1
- The Waltons - Season 1 and 2 set
- Whale Wars - Season 2

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.Yes, we're in the middle of a slow period when it comes to new DVD releases. You would think there would be more new things released during the holidays, but I guess all of the companies released everything in the months of October and November. But we do have a few DVD sets for TV fans, including another Star Wars takeoff by the folks at Family Guy and a complete series set for Taxi (along with the season five set, the last season).
Huh. I always thought Taxi lasted a few more seasons than that. Then again I haven't seen an episode of the show in over ten years.
- Family Guy - Something Something Something Dark Side
- Guyver - Complete Series (Viridian Collection)
- Kyle XY - Season 3
- The Secret Life of the American Teenager - Season 3
- Taxi - Season 5 and Complete Series
FlashForward DVD coming in February (already?)
by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 18th 2009 3:03PM

Here's an interesting tactic: releasing a DVD set for a show smack dab* in the middle of the first season.
Disney/ABC has announced that they will release FlashForward: Volume 1 on February 26. That's "Volume 1" and not "Season 1," because the season isn't over yet. This release will come a week before the show returns to the network on March 4 to finish out the first season (with the big event that affects the entire world happening on April 10).

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.I think I might have asked this question before, but I'll ask it again: just how many Star Trek (original series) sets are there? There seems to be a new one released every few months. I know there are Blu-ray sets being released now, but at what point does even the most die-hard Trek fan say enough is enough and they're not going to buy any more? A friend of mine loves Star Trek and seems to buy every new version of the show that comes out.
- Cake Boss - Cake Boss
- Criss Angel Mindfreak - Season 5 and Collector's Edition Megaset
- Ice Road Truckers - Season 3
- The Maxx - Complete Series
- The Paper Chase - Season 2
- Robot Chicken - Season 4
- Sherlock Holmes - The Collection
- Star Trek - Season 3 (Blu-ray)
- The Tudors - Season 3
- Wagon Train - Season 1
- Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie
All Bob wants for Festivus
by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 9th 2009 4:02PM
It's the most wonderful time of the year. With the kids jingle belling and everyone telling you "be of good cheer" and hearts glowing and parties for hosting and everything else that Andy Williams sings about. Oh, and everyone celebrating the season with big metal poles and the airing of grievances towards their family. Here's my wish list for what I want to see this year. Happy Festivus everyone!
- Lost to end on a good note. I don't ask for the entire series to make sense or even for every single question to be answered, but I do want the ending to be satisfying. The final season does scare me, though, if rumors (spoiler spoiler spoiler!) that the bomb reset everything and all of the dead characters are alive again are true. That could be too "Bobby Ewing in the shower," you know? We'll see. I have high hopes.

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.
There are several different versions of the season 5 set for Lost being released this week, from a regular set (actually called an "Expanded Edition") and a Blu-ray version of that set, plus a "Dharma Initiative Orientation Kit" set in both regular format and in Blu-ray. Those sets have the extras you see in the pic above (deleted scenes, bloopers, interviews, etc), plus...a videotape! That's one of the cooler extras you'll find in a DVD set, eh?
- Friday - Complete Series
- The Fugitive - Season 3, Vol. 2
- Get Smart - Season 5
- Highlander - Season 1 (Blu-ray)
- The Jerry Lewis Show - The Jerry Lewis Show
- The Judy Garland Show - Collection

Matt Houston might be coming to DVD next year
by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 2nd 2009 3:10PM
It's funny how shows you didn't think would ever be released are suddenly released on DVD. Case in point: Matt Houston, the series from the early '80s that starred Lee Horsley as a Texas-born private eye. Yes, his last name was Houston and he was born in Texas. It's always great when your last name is also the name of a city in your state. Maybe the show didn't trust viewers enough to know that even though he lives in Los Angeles HE'S A COWBOY.TVShowsOnDVD is reporting that the show is going to come out on DVD some time in 2010.

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow. It's funny how there are some weeks where there's 20 or so different DVD sets released but I won't see any sets that I want. And then there are weeks like this when there are only a handful of DVDs being released but I somehow want two or three of them.
The new Mystery Science Theater 3000 set (with The Corpse Vanishes, Warrior of the Lost World, Night of the Blood Beast, Santa Claus, two shorts, four lobby cards, and a collectible Tom Servo figurine) is a definite, and I might get Better Off Ted too, though I want to watch a few more episodes before I make up my mind.
- Ben 10: Alien Swarm
- Better Off Ted - Season 1
- The Donna Reed Show - Season 3
- Mental - Season 1
- Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Vol. XVI (Limited Edition)
- Saturday Night Live - Season 5
What Bob is thankful for
by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 24th 2009 3:06PM
It's Thanksgiving time again, and while I am obviously thankful for my family and my friends and finding out that the nasty rash I had was nothing to be concerned about, it's a time for nods to TV-related things that I'm thankful for.1. Mad Men. I hate to be boring by picking the same thing as I did last year as my number one thing I'm thankful for, but did you see that season finale? Holy crap. It was the capper to a fantastic season. This is the best show on television (and a thanks-within-a-thanks for this being on AMC and not some other network).

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow. Finally, season 4 of Alfred Hitchcock Presents is on DVD. I say finally because this season contains one of my favorite episodes of any TV series ever, "Man with a Problem," with Elizabeth Montgomery, Gary Merrill, and Peter Mark Richman. It has a great twist ending (you can watch it here). I have to start buying this show on DVD.
The Golden Age of Television DVD is a Criterion Collection set and includes some great live TV episodes, including "Marty," "Days of Wine and Roses," "The Comedian," "Requiem for a Heavyweight," "No Time For Sergeants," "A Wind from the South," and "Bang The Drum Slowly." Also comes with extensive commentaries and interviews and a booklet.

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.Who would buy Hammertime on DVD? I'm actually asking. Is that something that you would actually watch again after you've already watched it on TV?
There are some good complete series sets being released this week, though: Andy Richter's Andy Barker, P.I., a Rome gift set, Farscape, and a new box for The Sopranos.
- 7th Heaven - Season 9
- Andy Barker, P.I. - Complete Series
- Ben 10: Alien Force - Vol. 5
- Drawn Together - Complete Series
