Doris Roberts Gets Punched by Betty White on 'Hot in Cleveland' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 21st 2011 6:45AM
'Hot in Cleveland'It was an emotional roller coaster when Elka (Betty White) ran into her former best friend Lydia, played by Doris Roberts, on 'Hot in Cleveland' (Wed., 10PM ET on TV Land).

Their friendship had ended when Elka caught Lydia in a tent with her husband. So when she saw her old friend, she did what anyone would do. She knocked her out with a hard right hook.

Lydia tried to explain that it was a misunderstanding, and that Elka's husband was only warming her because of frostbite. It was pretty convincing when she showed her three-toed foot, but it turned out to still be a fantasy.

Still, it wasn't all bad. When Lydia's son showed up, Elka saw so much of her deceased husband in him. So much that despite her anger at Lydia, she couldn't bring herself to tell the truth to the son her husband had with her best friend. She simply enjoyed the chance to look into her husband's eyes again.

Fran Sneaks Into the Opera to Spy on Peter on 'Happily Divorced' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 14th 2011 6:21AM
'Happily Divorced' - 'Spousal Support'Just because Fran and Peter are 'Happily Divorced' (Wed., 10:30PM ET on TV Land), doesn't mean they're ready to move on with their lives. Peter hasn't even moved out of the house yet. But this week, when Peter was on the cusp of a huge sale that would have allowed him to not only move out but leave the state, they finally faced the prospect of separating.

Fran panicked, and apparently started sabotaging Peter's chances of making the sale by convincing him the octogenarian client wasn't interested in a house at all. He was only interested in Peter.

She even slipped into the opera the two were at to try and "save" Peter from being physically assaulted by the man. In all honesty, if we'd seen what they saw we'd have probably jumped to the same conclusion they did in that moment.

Elka Gives Victoria Pointers on Acting Old on 'Hot in Cleveland' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 14th 2011 6:02AM
'Hot in Cleveland' - 'Love Thy Neighbor'For probably the first time in her entire life, Victoria Chase wanted to be older on 'Hot in Cleveland' (Wed., 10PM ET on TV Land). She was trying for the lead part in a local production of 'Driving Miss Daisy,' but the director said she was too young for the part.

Not to be outdone, Victoria decided to prove it to him by going deep into character as an old person, and she tapped Elka to help her get the nuances right.

"Good speed," Elka said as Victoria slowly shuffled into the room in her track suit, thick glasses and white wig. "Now feel the lack of burn."

'Happily Divorced': Fran Discovers Unpleasant Secret About Old Boyfriend (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 7th 2011 5:15AM
'Happily Divorced' - 'Spousal Support'It all seemed so perfect when Fran reconnected with an old high school sweetheart, Richard, on 'Happily Divorced' (Wed., 10:30PM ET on TV Land). He not only understood why she was still living with her ex-husband Peter, he helped hook Peter up with a job. More importantly, he was rich. What could go wrong?

It happened when one of Judi's best friends turned out to be his son, and Richard bolted out of there like his shoes were on fire. Turns out he's okay with "those people" if it's Peter or anyone but his son.

"Love isn't conditional," Fran said. "Love is love." Sure the message was a little heavy-handed, but we're in traditional sitcom mode. If this were the '90s, it would have been billed as a "very special episode" of 'Happily Divorced.'

The Ladies Enter a Battle of the Bands Contest on 'Hot in Cleveland' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 7th 2011 3:46AM
Betty White, 'Hot in Cleveland'With Melanie's bucket-list book being expanded into a column for a magazine, the girls decided to enter a Battle of the Bands contest on 'Hot in Cleveland' (Wed., 10PM ET on TV Land). Unfortunately, as happens with so many great bands, infighting led to them breaking up before the gig.

That left Joy vulnerable to Rick's advances toward getting her to join his band. The problem for the ladies is that Joy was the only one who could sing. So when competition time came, and Rick ratted out their attempts to use autotune, they were left vulnerable ... and frankly, rather awful-sounding.

"What they need is a singer," Rick laughed. But Joy turned the tables on him and joined her friends on stage to save the day. This is a "classic" sitcom after all. How did you expect it to end?

The Girls Get a Shocking Late Night Visitor on 'Hot in Cleveland' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 23rd 2011 10:10AM
'Hot in Cleveland'The women of 'Hot in Cleveland' (Wed., 10PM ET on TV Land) were terrified that an ex-con was coming to get them, so when they heard a noise outside in the middle of the night, they expected the worst.

Luckily, Melanie was prepared with her ... sunscreen? Well at least Elka was packing heat, as if you'd expect anything less. Her "Polish pellet gun" looked more like something you'd take down an elephant with, but at least it was harmless, right?

!!SPOILER ALERT!!

Not so fast, as it went off when Joy threw it on the couch, firing through the window and inadvertantly hitting their late night prowler. To make matters worse for Joy, it wasn't an ex-con or any other sort of prowler that you wouldn't feel so bad about shooting accidentally.

Morgan Freeman Says He Walked Down the Trail Sidney Poitier Blazed (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 20th 2011 5:21AM
Sidney Poitier, 'The AFI Life Achievement Honoring Morgan Freeman'Considering the event was called 'The AFI Life Achievement Award Honoring Morgan Freeman' (Sun., 9PM ET on TV Land), no one would have faulted the guest of honor for clapping himself on the back a little bit. After all, it was his night and he'd certainly earned an award honoring his life and career. But Morgan Freeman didn't do that.

Instead, he shared the spotlight with a man he considers a trailblazer in his own right. "Seems like the world's upside down when you're here in the audience watching me and I'm up here on stage getting an award," Freeman said to Sidney Poitier, who was looking on proudly.

"In my life, I've shamelessly tried to pattern it after yours," Freeman said. "To walk down the trail you blazed my friend. That you are here means that you are proud of me. And I'm proud of that."

george wendt, hot in clevelandAnother star of sitcoms past, 'Cheers' alum George Wendt, popped up for a quick drink on the return of 'Hot in Cleveland' (Wed., 10PM ET on TV Land).

Playing an Amish version of his beloved 'Cheers' stool jockey, Norm, Wendt did what he does best -- he strolled over to the bar, tossed back a few drinks, and knocked a few one-liners out of the park.

The episode saw the 'HiC' gals searching for Elka (Betty White), who Victoria (Wendie Malick) found in the unlikeliest of places after a rough night in Ohio's Amish Country.

Valerie Bertinelli & Wendie Malick Talk 'Hot In Cleveland,' Dream Guest Stars

by Chris Harnick, posted Jun 15th 2011 12:15PM
Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie MalickWhen you assemble a dream team of actresses like Wendie Malick, Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Betty White -- a.k.a. the ladies on 'Hot In Cleveland' -- it seems like it'd be hard not to have fun.

The TV Land sitcom returns with new episodes (Wed., June 15, 10PM ET on TV Land) just in time to heat up the summer. But what's going to happen?

Malick and Bertinelli were mum on specifics at Monday night's premiere party in New York, but they did let some details slip.

"Let me put it this way," Bertinelli told AOL TV. "Wednesday night: Amish bar. That's what I can tell you. Insane! It's like, 'What the heck are we doing in an Amish bar!?'"

Fran Drescher & Her 'Happily Divorced' Cast On Why They Don't Need Guest Stars

by Chris Harnick, posted Jun 14th 2011 12:30PM
Fran DrescherFran Drescher is back! The star of 'The Nanny' is returning to her roots -- sitcoms -- after giving a tawk talk show a try. But this is no ordinary comedy. Drescher is teaming with ex-husband and 'Nanny' co-creator Peter Marc Jacobson to bring a fictionalized version of their life to audiences.

In the new TV Land sitcom 'Happily Divorced' (premieres Wed., June 15 at 10:30PM ET), Drescher and Jacobson play their real-life situation -- they had a seemingly perfect marriage until Jacobson came out as homosexual -- for laughs. The couple is divorced now, but just as happy as before.

Fran stars as a fictionalized version of herself, with 'Best In Show' star John Michael Higgins as Peter and 'West Side Story' veteran Rita Moreno as Drescher's mother.

At Monday's premiere party for 'Happily Divorced,' Drescher told AOL TV she wasn't hesitant in bringing her personal life to the screen.

"We were already writing a movie," Drescher said. "We always write about what we know anyway, and then it takes on its own life as a creation."

Kirstie AlleyKirstie Alley is eyeing a return to situation comedy with potential projects in the works at TV Land and HBO.

The 'Dancing With the Stars' contestant spilled the beans to AOL TV's Michael Maloney on the 'DWTS' press line last night.

"I have a series being written for me right now that I really love the concept of," Alley told AOL TV. "They're doing it for TV Land and I like those guys. They are really bringing comedy back."

Alley said the TV Land concept is "sort of Virginia Woolf." However, that's not the only iron in the fire. "I have some people writing [a potential series] for me for HBO," she said. "But I really want to do movies."

Alley shot to fame as Rebecca on 'Cheers.' On the big screen she starred in the 'Look Who's Talking Movies' and returned to TV with 'Veronica's Closet' and 'Fat Actress.'
