'ReBoot' and New TV Shows on DVD, Streaming Online for March 1, 2011

Before 'The Matrix,' there was 'ReBoot.' OK, maybe that's taking it a little too far, but it's hard not to overstate the importance and influence of 'ReBoot' -- it was the first fully computer-generated animated TV series, after all.The sci-fi adventure series, which aired on Saturday mornings in the U.S. in the mid 1990s, stood out not only because of its highly stylized (but admittedly clunky by today's standards) computer-generated visuals, but also for its ambitious serial storytelling and its sly take on the world's growing obsession with technology and video games.
Shout! Factory has released Seasons 1 and 2, packaged together, today as well as the nine-disc 'Definitive Mainframe Edition,' which features a 20-page booklet, making of doc, and episode commentary from the series creators. Shiver me templates!

'The Sarah Jane Adventures' and New TV Shows on DVD, Streaming Online for Jan. 4, 2011

For most of The Doctor's companions, flying around in the TARDIS and battling Daleks and Cybermen is the most dangerous and exciting time of their lives. But not for Sarah Jane Smith; her life only got crazier after parting ways with The Doctor. Now she's forging her own strange sci-fi tinged path in the BBC's 'Doctor Who' spinoff 'The Sarah Jane Adventures.'Essentially pitched as 'Doctor Who for Kids,' 'Sarah Jane,' created by former 'New Who' mastermind Russell T. Davies, has won over critics and audiences of all ages with imaginative storytelling, humor and an assured lead performance from Elisabeth Sladen.
Season 3 of 'The Sarah Jane Adventures,' on DVD today, finds Sarah Jane and crew teaming up with new alien friends and going on some memorable timey wimey trips of their own.
Despite some sketchy-looking visual and make-up effects here and there -- the result of a reportedly slashed budget -- season 3 of 'Sarah Jane' offers six episodes of witty and fun fantasy/sci-fi that, like 'Doctor Who,' isn't afraid to get a little dark and challenging every now and then.
