'ReBoot' and New TV Shows on DVD, Streaming Online for March 1, 2011

reboot shout factory dvdBefore 'The Matrix,' there was 'ReBoot.' OK, maybe that's taking it a little too far, but it's hard not to overstate the importance and influence of 'ReBoot' -- it was the first fully computer-generated animated TV series, after all.

The sci-fi adventure series, which aired on Saturday mornings in the U.S. in the mid 1990s, stood out not only because of its highly stylized (but admittedly clunky by today's standards) computer-generated visuals, but also for its ambitious serial storytelling and its sly take on the world's growing obsession with technology and video games.

Shout! Factory has released Seasons 1 and 2, packaged together, today as well as the nine-disc 'Definitive Mainframe Edition,' which features a 20-page booklet, making of doc, and episode commentary from the series creators. Shiver me templates!

Pesonally, I think that the web will never replace TV for the simple fact that people like to have different things to do different things in their home, no matter how "cool" it is to see a video on YouTube.
