Desperate Housewife and Child: TV Guide in 60 seconds

by Bob Sassone, posted Oct 7th 2006 11:46AM
TV Guide - Marcia CrossOur weekly roundup of what's inside America's favorite TV magazine:

  • On the cover: Marcia Cross. You know, if TV Guide gave one tenth the coverage to other shows that it gives to Desperate Housewives (or Lost, or Grey's Anatomy, or CSI), maybe some shows would get a chance to succeed instead of being canceled so quickly. Imagine if they had put Kidnapped on the cover?
  • The Without A Trace/Nancy Grace connection. You can probably guess what it is.
  • Has Bones jumped the shark?
  • A preview of Battlestar Galactica's third season. Which, yeah, started last night, but read it anyway.
  • Speaking of third seasons, Penn & Teller's Bullshit is out on DVD, and the mag interviews the magic duo.
  • Surfer Girl gets a call from Dwight Schrute!
  • In the print edition: a look inside Amanda Peet's wedding, and a profile of Brooke Shields.

  • Matt Roush reviews Brothers and Sisters (he says it's so-so) and PBS' Andy Warhol documentary (he loves it).
  • Casting news: An ex-Ed star is joining 24, while Surface's Lake Bell is coming back to Boston Legal.
  • By the way, who thought the TV Guide site redesign was a good idea? The main tvguide.com page is fine, but the magazine page doesn't seem to have as many features (or at least they're not easy to find with the new navigation), and certain sections (Today's Highlights, Cheers and Jeers) are in PDF?! Gah.

Lauren Graham joins Studio 60

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 31st 2006 10:10PM

Lauren Graham and Matthew PerryYup, yup, you read that right. Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham is going to guest star on two episodes of the new NBC show Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. And here's the cool twist: she's going to play herself! She's going to be the "host" on an episode of the fictional variety show depicted on the show, and the two episodes will feature Graham dealing with the staff, going through rehearsals, and hosting the "show."

Hmmm...maybe that's why Grahm and Matthew Perry were seen together at a party before the Emmys?

Cowell helps along Little Richard's mini-comeback

by Joel Keller, posted Aug 17th 2006 12:36PM
Little RichardSimon Cowell always has something up his sleeve, doesn't he? Just when we thought we heard all we could hear about the impressive list of singers and celebrities he's signed for his FOX series Celebrity Duets, he pulls yet another impressive name out of his hat. In an interview with TVGuide.com, Cowell let slip that one of the judges will be none other than Little Richard. He will team with legendary producer David Foster and a yet-to-be-determined third judge (likely female) to make up the three-headed judging cabal that Cowell has perfected on American Idol, America's Got Talent, and his British hit The X-Factor (why Sharon Osbourne isn't judging one of Simon's American shows, I'll never know). He also told writer Matt Webb Mitovich that Gladys Knight has been added to the roster of singers recruited for the show.

Between this and his constantly running Geico commercial ("Mashed Potatoes! Gravy! And Cranberry Sauce! Awoooooo!"), Little Richard seems to be making a bit of a cultural comeback, isn't he? Hey, despite his bad plastic surgery and... uh... flamboyance... he's a legend and deserves whatever kind of attention he gets, even at this late age.
