The Ladies Enter a Battle of the Bands Contest on 'Hot in Cleveland' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 7th 2011 3:46AM
Betty White, 'Hot in Cleveland'With Melanie's bucket-list book being expanded into a column for a magazine, the girls decided to enter a Battle of the Bands contest on 'Hot in Cleveland' (Wed., 10PM ET on TV Land). Unfortunately, as happens with so many great bands, infighting led to them breaking up before the gig.

That left Joy vulnerable to Rick's advances toward getting her to join his band. The problem for the ladies is that Joy was the only one who could sing. So when competition time came, and Rick ratted out their attempts to use autotune, they were left vulnerable ... and frankly, rather awful-sounding.

"What they need is a singer," Rick laughed. But Joy turned the tables on him and joined her friends on stage to save the day. This is a "classic" sitcom after all. How did you expect it to end?

The Girls Get a Shocking Late Night Visitor on 'Hot in Cleveland' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 23rd 2011 10:10AM
'Hot in Cleveland'The women of 'Hot in Cleveland' (Wed., 10PM ET on TV Land) were terrified that an ex-con was coming to get them, so when they heard a noise outside in the middle of the night, they expected the worst.

Luckily, Melanie was prepared with her ... sunscreen? Well at least Elka was packing heat, as if you'd expect anything less. Her "Polish pellet gun" looked more like something you'd take down an elephant with, but at least it was harmless, right?

!!SPOILER ALERT!!

Not so fast, as it went off when Joy threw it on the couch, firing through the window and inadvertantly hitting their late night prowler. To make matters worse for Joy, it wasn't an ex-con or any other sort of prowler that you wouldn't feel so bad about shooting accidentally.

Morgan Freeman Says He Walked Down the Trail Sidney Poitier Blazed (VIDEO)

Sidney Poitier, 'The AFI Life Achievement Honoring Morgan Freeman'Considering the event was called 'The AFI Life Achievement Award Honoring Morgan Freeman' (Sun., 9PM ET on TV Land), no one would have faulted the guest of honor for clapping himself on the back a little bit. After all, it was his night and he'd certainly earned an award honoring his life and career. But Morgan Freeman didn't do that.

Instead, he shared the spotlight with a man he considers a trailblazer in his own right. "Seems like the world's upside down when you're here in the audience watching me and I'm up here on stage getting an award," Freeman said to Sidney Poitier, who was looking on proudly.

"In my life, I've shamelessly tried to pattern it after yours," Freeman said. "To walk down the trail you blazed my friend. That you are here means that you are proud of me. And I'm proud of that."

Playing an Amish version of his beloved 'Cheers' stool jockey, Norm, Wendt did what he does best -- he strolled over to the bar, tossed back a few drinks, and knocked a few one-liners out of the park.

The episode saw the 'HiC' gals searching for Elka (Betty White), who Victoria (Wendie Malick) found in the unlikeliest of places after a rough night in Ohio's Amish Country.

Hanks and Scolari Will Accept a TV Land Award for 'Bosom Buddies'

by Brad Trechak, posted Apr 5th 2010 10:02AM
Bosom BuddiesWho besides myself has been aching for a 'Bosom Buddies' reunion? Your wish has been granted now that Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari will reunite to accept a TV Land Anniversary Award for that very sitcom, thirty years later.

Fellow cast members Donna Dixon, Thelma Hopkins and Holland Taylor will also be in attendance. Sadly, the late Wendie Jo Sperber cannot (may she rest in peace). The show will be broadcast on April 25th and will be hosted by Tim Allen.

While I won't say that 'Bosom Buddies' launched Tom Hanks' career (the movie 'Splash' gets more credit for that), it definitely showcased his comedic talent. Peter Scolari was also an excellent foil for him and even made a cameo in Hanks' directorial debut 'That Thing You Do.'

It makes you wonder what Kip and Henry are actually doing in the 'Bosom Buddies' universe thirty years later. Henry probably wrote that book about their experience posing as women in order to keep a roof over their heads and it became a bestseller. They might have even decided that they liked dressing in drag and continue to this day.

TV Land taps television's vintage hottie vault for new sitcom

by Danny Gallagher, posted Jan 12th 2010 3:30PM

TV Land has officially jumped into the cable sitcom party, even if they showed up just as the hangovers are starting to set in. And for their first venture, they have enlisted the help of some of television's tastiest babes.

Valerie Bertinelli (One Day at a Time), Jane Leeves (Frasier), Wendy Malick (Just Shoot Me) and Betty White (The Golden Girls) have been brought on board to star in Hot for Cleveland, the second sitcom project approved by the cable network. That's right, Betty White is a TV hottie. I will fight ANYONE who makes fun of me for it.

The other show commissioned by TV Land is Retired at 35, and has lined up actor George Segal, Christine Ebersole and SNL alum Casey Wilson, her first role since she was abruptly pumped from the sketch show. Given TV Land's horrible choices in making their own reality shows, do these even have a chance of being a hit?
