Larry Uses a Past Romantic Encounter to Blackmail Connie Into Making Up With Kate on 'Mad Love' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 1st 2011 1:42AM
'Mad Love' - 'The Kate Gatsby'From the premiere episode of 'Mad Love' (Mon., 8:30PM ET on CBS) there's been an odd chemistry between Larry (Tyler Labine) and Connie (Judy Greer). Sure, it's been a negative chemistry, but it turns out there's a reason they felt such an instant connection. They've met before.

All Larry needed was a trigger to jog his photographic memory. Turns out Connie's annual birthday bashes for Kate (Sarah Chalke) have become such big events that Larry was at one years ago even though he didn't know either of them at the time.

There, he and Connie were drawn to one another and shared a kiss. He was wearing a mask and she was in geisha make-up, so they didn't remember one another eight years later.

Review: 'Mad Love' Has a Good Cast, But the CBS Comedy Doesn't Use It Well

by Maureen Ryan, posted Feb 14th 2011 3:00PM
Most of what you'll see in the new comedy 'Mad Love' (8:30ET Monday, CBS) won't come as a surprise.

Sarah Chalke, who plays New Yorker Kate Swanson, makes the flawless delivery of both comedic and emotional moments look effortless, but that would have been easy to predict after seeing her ace work on 'Scrubs' and 'How I Met Your Mother.'

It's also not surprising that the relatively charisma-free Jason Biggs, who plays Ben Parr, her almost-boyfriend on the relationship-centered sitcom, can't really keep up with Chalke in the charm or comedy departments.

Also not shocking: That Tyler Labine plays essentially the same character he's played on every other show he's ever been on, i.e., the goofy and sometimes gross buddy of the show's male lead.

The Driving Game on 'Sons of Tucson' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 18th 2010 10:00PM
The Driving Game on 'Sons of Tucson'Video game skills come in handy on the latest 'Sons of Tuscon' (Sun., 7:30PM ET on Fox). Ron and his best friend Glenn (played by Tyler Labine and Joe Lo Truglio) are pulled over by the police while driving: and neither one of them can handle getting another ticket. Quick! The two of them need to come up with a clever plan. Unfortunately, "clever plans" aren't exactly in the duo's repertoire.

First Kiss on 'Sons of Tuscon' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 12th 2010 2:50AM
First Kiss on 'Sons of Tuscon'A first kiss can be an awkward time for anyone. Especially if you're receiving terrible advice from your fake "father." As is the case on the latest 'Sons of Tucson' (Sun., 7:30PM ET on Fox).

[Spoiler alert.]

Fake dad Ron (Tyler Labine) is trying to do his best. And he's certainly trying to give good advice to "son" Gary. Unfortunately, his words of wisdom involve terrifying Gary (Frank Dolce) when he's about to have his first kiss ever.

But there are always two sides to every story. Gary cleverly ignores Ron's advice. But once he kisses the girl, she instantly starts acting clingy and insane. So what's the right moral or message here? Always listen to a father-figure? Never kiss anyone? Or is there another, better message?

Stressful Father's Day on 'Sons of Tucson' (VIDEO)

Stressful Father's Day on 'Sons of Tucson'Ah, Father's Day. It's a holiday that doesn't get enough respect. (Mother's Day probably doesn't get enough respect either, but it's at least better celebrated than dad's day.)

A 'Sleepover' Gone Wrong on 'Sons of Tucson'The problem with teenage boys (or girls) is that they tend to lie. At least, they tend to do this when they want to leave the house and do cool stuff.

What to Watch: April 5 - 11

by Stephanie Earp, posted Apr 5th 2010 12:40PM

- Wednesday April 7, 8 pm, Global/Fox

For the 100th episode of 'Bones', David Boreanaz directs a backward-looking episode that recalls the early days of the Booth-Brennan relationship and how romance almost got in the way of the work. I too remember the early days of 'Bones' - the expensive 3-D technology they used to reconstruct a body, seeing Angel in a suit, the awkward dialogue of the overly-techy techies. I admit, I didn't think the show would make it this far. But there's no doubt Emily Deschanel and Boreanaz have great chemistry and that the show has grown and improved since those early days. Is it the new 'Moonlighting'? Not exactly, but it still deserves kudos.

'Sons of Tucson' Guys Add Illegal Aliens to Family Photos (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Apr 5th 2010 4:00AM
Illegal Aliens on 'Sons of Tucson'Thanks to photo manipulation, green screen and a confused-looking group of illegal aliens, Ron (Tyler Labine) and the Gunderson boys created a family photo album on last night's 'Sons of Tucson' (Sun., 9:30PM on FOX). Various childhood milestones were included, and Ron particularly enjoyed kissing his "bride" on their wedding day.

Said Ron, "Come on out, illegals! Let's take some photos.... We got our family -- my wife, your mother, little Brandon age 3, and this guy right here, weird Uncle Joe." Yeah, every family's got a weird Uncle Joe (or equivalent). Way to make those photos legit, Ron.

More Casting News: Tyler Labine to CBS, Neal McDonough Replaced by 'JAG' Star

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 30th 2010 3:06PM
LabineI caught up with 'Sons of Tucson' the other day, and you know what? It's pretty funny! The ratings aren't that great though, which is probably one of the reasons Tyler Labine has joined the pilot of a new CBS sitcom (that's him on the right riding over to CBS to sign the contract).

Labine will stay on 'Sons of Tucson' if FOX renews it. The new show is called 'True Love' and it's about four friends who live in New York (God, that a really generic description but shows aren't about plots it's about the writing). Everyone must love Labine because he has been offered this role more than once (he turned it down because 'Sons of Tucson' hadn't premiered yet). 'True Love' will also star Jason Biggs and Minka Kelly.

In other casting news, former 'JAG' star David James Elliott has replaced Neal McDonough in the pilot for ABC's 'Scoundrels.' We told you last month about this show, a "dramedy" starring Virginia Madsen as a mom who heads a family of crooks who decides to go straight after her husband is sent to jail. McDonough was going to play the husband but now he's out and Elliott is in.

Gary Explores a Worst Case Scenario on 'Sons of Tucson' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 29th 2010 2:04AM
Sons of Tucson, The Golden TicketYou know how when something bad happens, you automatically go down that road of the worst case scenario? It's human nature, and that's just what Ron and the boys do on 'Sons of Tucson' (Sun., 9:30PM ET on Fox) when it appears that their ruse may be out in the open.

"Worst case scenario? Gabe tells his dad, who's a cop! You go to prison for child endangerment. You're looking at about ten years, but you'll probably insist on representing yourself, in which case, you'll get 20," says Gary.

Tyler Labine Tells Story of Dangerous Childhood Dare (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Mar 24th 2010 4:00PM
Foolhardy childhood dares are nothing new, but Tyler Labine's wins points for perhaps being one of the most dangerous. While in the ninth grade, the 'Sons of Tucson' star took a dive off a 93-foot cliff and broke several bones due to a poor landing, he said on 'The Bonnie Hunt Show' (weekdays, syndicated).

Labine bit a hole in his tongue and broke two ribs and his sternum, he said. But, despite his injuries, he doesn't appear to have learned his lesson, and told Bonnie Hunt that kids should always accept crazy dares from their friends. (Seriously, though, don't.)

Ron Almost Gets Busted, Credits Meth-Use for Custody on 'Sons of Tucson' (VIDEO)

by Chris Harnick, posted Mar 22nd 2010 11:00AM
Sons of TucsonPosing as the dad for three kids who aren't yours is pretty weird, but when Ron ran into an old friend on 'Sons of Tuscon,' (Sun., 9:30PM EST on FOX), his excuse was even stranger than the situation.

His friend knows Ron didn't have kids three years ago and all of the boys are clearly older than three, so what line does Ron come up with?

"The truth is I had the boys before I met you," he said. "It's kind of the turkey baster situation without the turkey baster."

Leave it to Ron to say somebody's meth-use caused his happy ending.

'Sons of Tucson' - 'Pilot' Recap

Tyler Labine on Fox's
"All right, boys. Let's play house." - Ron to the Gunderson boys

It's hard to dislike 'Sons of Tucson,' and believe me, I've tried.

It stands on Fox's Sunday comedy pedestal as a mix of borrowed plots and styles. It's got the attitude of 'Malcolm in the Middle,' the plot of 'Arrested Development' and the dramatic tragedy of 'Breaking Bad.'

But, hey, if you're going to borrow, borrow from the best.

Slacker Saves the Day on 'Sons of Tucson' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 15th 2010 2:33AM
Sons of Tucson, Tyler LabineYou'd probably get pretty creative if your banker dad ended up in prison over a bad stock deal, and you wanted to avoid being foster kids.

In the case of the Gunderson kids on 'Sons of Tucson' (8:30PM ET on Fox), that means wrangling a slacker to pose as their dad. Yeah, it's not a big brain teaser to figure out who the responsible ones are in this equation.
