Brittani Gets Scolded, Tyra Gets Outvoted on 'America's Next Top Model' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 7th 2011 2:08AM
Brittani, 'America's Next Top Model'Did you feel sorry for Alexandria this week? After nearly terrorizing the other girls all season, it was Alexandria's turn for some of her own medicine as the girls ganged up on her at the photo shoot on 'America's Next Top Model' (Wed., 8PM ET on The CW).

But it was Brittani who came on the strongest, and it was she who faced the wrath of Tyra Banks. While Banks did say a few words to chastise Brittani for her behavior, which Banks said made her "unattractive," she used most of the time to try really, really hard and convince us that 'ANTM' is not a monarchy.

"People think that on 'America's Next Top Model,' I'm the only person that makes a decision," she said to the girls. "That is not the case. It has never been the case. And this week, I was outvoted."

Dalya Stands in Her Own Way on 'America's Next Top Model' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Mar 23rd 2011 11:35PM
Dalya Stands in Her Own Way on 'America's Next Top Model'A consistent theme on 'America's Next Top Model' (Wed., 8PM ET on The CW) is that the real world of modeling is much, much tougher than what is presented on the reality series.

Of course, this isn't really true. 'ANTM' regularly covers models with angry insects, or ties them to the wings of airplanes -- none of which happens very often in the regular world of modeling.

Still, all of this gives Tyra Banks an excuse to drive young women to tears, which is what happened again tonight.

Tyra Banks Teaches Chris Wragge to 'Smeyes' on 'The Early Show'Tyra Banks gives anchor Chris Wragge a crash course in "smeysing," or smiling with one's eyes, on 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS), with the promise that ratings will go up if he learns to do so.

"A 'smeyes' is smiling with your eyes," explained Banks. "I do believe, Chris, that if you can master smeysing, your viewership, your ratings, your Nielsens will go up."

Tyra Banks Talks Living in Harvard Business School's Dorms (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Mar 15th 2011 4:45AM
Tyra Banks Talks Harvard Dorms on 'Late Night'When Tyra Banks was accepted to Harvard Business School, she imagined living "at the Four Seasons down the street," she told Jimmy Fallon on 'Late Night' (weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC). But staying in the dorms is mandatory -- even for a high-profile ex-supermodel with her own TV franchise.

She has her own bedroom, but the 37-year-old shares a living room, kitchen and study area. (What about the bathroom?)

Now she "wouldn't have it any other way," Banks said. "It's like summer camp. Every time a term ends, I get withdrawal ... I miss my friends. I miss my professors. I miss living in these dorms."

"You miss your posters of Justin Bieber on your wall," chimed in Fallon.

The Competition Is Too Much for One Contestant to Handle on 'America's Next Top Model' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 3rd 2011 12:56AM
Ondrei Orae, 'America's Next Top Model'Sometimes there are more important things to deal with in life than a reality show. Ondrei Orae tried to suppress the emotions of the past year in her personal life for her chance at being 'America's Next Top Model' (Wed., 8PM ET on The CW).

The poor girl struggled throughout the episode emotionally and it came through in the weird bees photo shoot that Tyra Banks and her production crew came up with. Orae lost both of her brothers in the past year: One was murdered and the other died in a car accident.

She took ownership of her failure to commit, acknowleding that this was a tremendous opportunity she simply couldn't handle right now.

'America's Next Top Model': Still Worth Watching

by Stephanie Earp, posted Feb 22nd 2011 2:00PM
America's Next Top Model

It is a universally-acknowledged truth that Tyra Banks is crazy -- certainly by those of us who watch 'America's Next Top Model.' It is a truth universally mentioned by the people we live with and who are forced sometimes to watch it with us, that it's a pretty stupid show.

There really isn't a criticism I can level at the show that hasn't been covered, ad infinitum, by other critics, and even by me in previous columns. Tyra is a diva. The challenges are cruel. It's probably rigged.

And yet, the show continues to appeal -- on a fairly serious level -- to those of us interested in fashion, in television and in feminism.

TVR Awards -- Biggest Daytime Gross-Out of 2010 (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Dec 22nd 2010 10:45AM

What's grosser than gross? Daytime TV, of course. If it's stomach-churning moments you're after, look no further. Our nominees for the Biggest Daytime Gross-Out of 2010 include sexually suggestive workouts, medical oddities, a man intent upon milking himself and a poor sap who eats something he definitely shouldn't. All that's missing are people doing disgusting things with urine. Oh, wait ...

Ann Ward on Taking 'America's Next Top Model' Crown: 'I Really Wasn't Expecting to Win'

by Chris Jancelewicz, posted Dec 2nd 2010 5:10PM
Controversial 'America's Next Top Model' contestant Ann Ward took home the top prize in last night's season finale -- much to her own shock. When host Tyra Banks showed her winning final photo, Ward burst into tears and hid her face in her hands. Derided the whole season for her tall, skinny figure (Ward is 6'2'' and very thin), Ward had the 'best photo' for 5 weeks in a row and was the subject of much media scrutiny.

TV Squad chatted with Ward about her victory, what she has to say to the media's 'anorexia' accusations and what message she hopes her victory sends to the 'ANTM' fans.

Nigel Barker on 'Top Model,' His New Book, and Shooting a Naked Tyra Banks

by Chris Jancelewicz, posted Oct 5th 2010 3:45PM
Nigel Barker has been immersed in the fashion industry for most of his life – he's gone from model to photographer to 'America's Next Top Model' judge – and now he's adding 'author' to his CV. Barker has decided to step out from behind the camera and discuss the issue of true beauty, something he knows plenty about, in his book 'Nigel Barker's Beauty Equation: Revealing a Better and More Beautiful You.'

Barker has been on 'ANTM' since the second season, and is the only person to stay on as a judge for 15 cycles. TV Squad caught up with the British charmer to talk about his modeling career, how 'ANTM' has changed, and his first photo shoot with Tyra Banks (she was nude).

What to Watch: September 27 - October 3

by Stephanie Earp, posted Sep 27th 2010 2:25AM

Dead Set - Sunday October 3, 10PM ET, Space

This BAFTA-nominated British zombie series makes its North American debut tonight -- and with five episodes, that means it'll finish up on Halloween. The Brits really are the best at keeping zombie stories fresh -- no pun intended. This one takes place on the fictional set of a new cycle of 'Big Brother UK,' where cocooned in the safety of the house, the contestants are blissfully unaware of the horrific events unfolding outside. As eviction night looms, Britain is in the grip of an apocalyptic crisis where fast-moving hordes of the undead decimate the studio compound and the rest of the country. Awesome.

'America's Next Top Model' Sends a Contestant Home for Being Too Thin (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 16th 2010 5:55AM
'America's Next Top Model'One of the contestants on 'America's Next Top Model' (Wed., 8PM on CW) heard criticism that probably isn't all that common in the modeling world. It's definitely not in the public perception of what the industry is looking for, but it was encouraging to see.

Photo shoot director Jay Manuel noticed the problem with Anamaria right away. "My big concern with Anamaria is her body, he said. "I didn't see a tall slender model. I saw bones." But when he confronted her about his concerns, she shut him out.

She had the same defiance through the photo reveal, when host Tyra Banks revealed her best shot, and the more disconcerting reason why it was chosen. "The reason why this photo was chosen," she explained to Anamaria, "Is because your body is covered. Because [in] the other film your body doesn't look healthy and it makes me very uncomfortable."

'America's Next Top Model' Cycle 15: Meet the Contestants

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 19th 2010 6:00PM
Tyra BanksIt's hard to believe that we're now on the 15th iteration of 'The Tyra Banks Show' 'America's Next Top Model' -- it's been a long, catfight-filled road since the show's debut in 2003.

To shake things up for 'Top Model's crystal anniversary, this season will focus on all things high fashion. (Does that mean we won't have to hear Tyra complain that the girls are "too commercial," or that we'll hear it even more?) Along with its classed-up image, 'ANTM' has upped the stakes. The winner will now appear on 'Vogue Italia' instead of 'Seventeen.' Maybe it's new judge André Leon Talley's influence?

In advance of the show's Sept. 8 premiere, The CW released a series of videos on its YouTube account yesterday introducing the 14 new contestants to their adoring public. (Side note: Whoa, there are now more cycles than girls competing!) Join us after the jump to take a first look at who's still in the running towards becoming America's Next Top Model.

The Last Episode of 'The Tyra Show' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted May 31st 2010 7:45PM
The Last Episode of 'The Tyra Show'Well, that's the end. This is the last episode of 'The Tyra Show' (weekdays, syndicated). We've had some highs, some lows, a lot of uses of the word "fierce," and a lot of clips that ended up being parodied on 'The Soup.' On her last episode, Tyra cries, thanks her audience -- and kisses the floor.

During her farewell monologue, Tyra talks about how her critics predicted that the show would be canceled within two weeks. She also lists all her accomplishments as a model, photographer, and host of 'that little model show' ('America's Next Top Model'). After doing some crying, she thanks her audience for "what guys you have allowed me to be." Tyra then says this: "I am humble." Then, she kisses the floor of her studio.

Right. We're not sure if gushing about your own achievements, weeping about your own show, and attacking your critics counts as being "humble." But it did at least provide us with another uniquely "Tyra-esque" moment for the ages. And thank you, Tyra. We will miss you and your zaniness.

A $200,000 Gay Wedding on 'Tyra' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted May 27th 2010 9:35PM
A $200,000 Gay Wedding on 'Tyra'It's a big gay wedding on 'The Tyra Show' (weekdays, syndicated). A really big gay wedding. Like, two hundred thousand dollars worth of gay wedding.

Tyra has teamed up with a group of wedding vendors in order to give one couple the ceremony of their dreams. But to make it to the altar, the group of contestants will have to win at 'The Gaylywed Game.' Tyra asks questions such as "Which celebrity couple would your partner say you are most like? Is it Ellen and Portia ... or Elton John and David Furnish?"

The couples have to predict each other's answers correctly, in a parody of 'The Newlywed Game.' And there's a big payday awaiting one of them.
