Tyra Banks, Hairstylist (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Apr 8th 2010 10:30PM
Tyra Banks, HairstylistWould you trust Tyra Banks to cut your hair? Would you let her do it if you were a guest on her show? That's the question facing the guests on the most recent episode of 'The Tyra Show' (weekdays, syndicated). Banks did a series of "girl power" makeovers, which involved cutting one guest's hair fairly radically. "So I'm going to cut you at a jagged angle," she said. "... Okay?" Um, okay.

'America's Next Top Model' - 'Smile and Pose' Recap

Angalea looks like she is in her comfort zone
(S14E05) When 'America's Next Top Model' starts off with a statement about drinking pickle juice and bodily functions, you know there will be something really odd about the episode. Anslee continues to cry through most of the episode, but fortunately for her, Tyra isn't done with airing her emotions on the show, and she doesn't even land in the bottom three.

My biggest concern for this show is the fact that Angelea gets high amounts of praise for looking heavily transsexual. I'm not sure if I get her whole appeal. Whereas Cycle 8 winner Jaslene could look drag, she understood her angles and fixed her chin by the end. Angelea still hasn't been given enough criticism about looking more feminine and could be the winner for 'RuPaul's Drag Race.'

After the Oprah-calypse: Who Can Fill Oprah's Seat?

by Stephanie Earp, posted Apr 6th 2010 11:58PM

Rumor has it that Rosie O'Donnell is being set up as Oprah's replacement when the Daytime Queen retires from her eponymous show in 2011. At least that's how the industry gossips put it. The truth is that while Rosie is planning a talk show to launch when the Oprah set goes dark, it's being produced by a different company and will probably run on cable, not on ABC.

But who can resist speculating about who could replace Oprah Winfrey? Since Oprah announced that her show would be ending its 25-year run, a short list of possible candidates has included Ellen DeGeneres, Rachael Ray, Martha Stewart, Sarah Palin, Tyra Banks and even Michelle Obama. But I think Oprah is irreplaceable. Sure, you could give another woman her time-slot, but in the world of daytime talk, time-slots are meaningless. You live or die on your own ability to capture the public imagination.

'America's Next Top Model' - 'America's Next Top Vampire' Recap

by Michael Pascua, posted Apr 1st 2010 2:12AM
Krista channels her inner vampire on Top Model.
(S14E04) This week on 'America's Next Top Model,' Tyra banks decided to continue trying to be current by realizing that people like vampires. At least it was a step more current than her MySpace parody in the first episode. It makes me wonder if people will find bloody vampires as controversial as the dead model photoshoot in Cycle Eight, or is there a double standard with vampires?

Speaking of vampires, Tyra continues to suck the souls of her contestants. This week, Brenda was forced to change her hair yet again. Instead of soccer mom, Brenda's sides were buzzed to give her more of a faux-hawk look.

'America's Next Top Model' - 'Let's Dance' Recap

Alexandra strikes a pose on ANTM
(S14E03) I find it amusing when two shows start bleeding into each other. This week 'America's Next Top Model' borrowed 'Project Runway's' sponsor Bluefly.com. Granted, this isn't the first time crossover has happened between the two shows. Previous contestants like Dani (Cycle 6), Bianca (Cycle 9), and Anya (Cycle 10) have modeled for contestants on their final runway shows. Because of that, I got several commercials for Bluefly.com with Anthony announcing "Period" each time.

Ren continued to self-eliminate herself throughout the episode, and yet didn't have the guts to actually quit. Tyra must be annoyed that the person that she hand picked didn't succeed.

Is Brenda's Hair Ugly on 'America's Next Top Model'? (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 25th 2010 3:36AM
America's Next Top Model, BrendaTyra Banks is a knock-out businesswoman, but did she pick the wrong hairstyle for Brenda on 'America's Next Top Model' (Wed., 8PM ET on The CW)?

Some of the other models think so, when they started making fun of Brenda's short red 'do. "That really hurt my feelings, because I didn't choose this haircut," said Brenda. "I feel like that's kind of like laughing in Tyra's face."

We think she's adorable, but seriously, you could shave Brenda's hair off and she'd still be gorgeous.

'America's Next Top Model' - 'Drekitude' Recap

by Michael Pascua, posted Mar 18th 2010 12:10AM
Anslee models a purse on ANTM

(S14E02) We continue 'America's Next Top Model' from last week's photoshoot cliffhanger. The nude photoshoot goes off without much of a hitch about religious morals or modesty. Either way, the shoot was borrowed from a challenge on 'Make Me a Supermodel' which had the same exact concept. The second photoshoot continues to stretch the definition of what a beauty shot is. Beauty shots should be zoomed in even closer than what we saw.

We saw the new and improved opening sequence; it's going to take me a while to get adjusted to it. It's still Tyra-centric and now with a 70s/funk vibe. This episode was also 90 minutes long, which threw off the tempo of the show. I was waiting for the show to end, but it just kept going. Speaking of editing choices, why isn't last season's winner Nicole in the CoverGirl lounge?

Tyra Banks Gets Freaky Over Glamazonia on 'America's Next Top Model' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 11th 2010 2:57AM
America's Next Top Model, Tyra BanksThings got extremely freaky on 'America's Next Top Model' (Wed., 8PM ET on The CW) when plus-sized model (really?) Jeanne explained Glamazonia, a planet she created in her own mind.

Tyra Banks then made Jay Manuel lie down on the floor and, well, we're not sure what happened next. Let's just hope the aliens aren't watching. Then again, if they are, they'll likely steer their ships to a galaxy far, far away.

'America's Next Top Model' - 'Be My Friend, Tyra!' Recap

by Michael Pascua, posted Mar 10th 2010 11:32PM
America's Next Top Model(S14E01) In an 'America's Next Top Model' first, the premiere spends 90 minutes on the casting episode. Luckily for the viewers, the camp factor is severe this season. Not only in the first two minutes of the show did one contestant compare her fellow contestants as "bitches," we got a lot of really weird back stories and quips. Where does Tyra find these women? They were part of religious cults, impregnated on their first time, and Krista is afraid of white men's "pink penises" because they look like "raw meat."

Tyra decides to knock off Myspace with what she called "MyFiercePage" to cut the semi-finalists to the final thirteen contestants. This would have been really edgy in 2007, but now anything Myspace related feels lazy and outdated. If Tyra created "FierceBook," I would have found it more believable.

Tyra Banks Talks to Women Who Date Married Men (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Feb 24th 2010 10:24PM
Tyra Banks, Women Who Date Married Men Tyra Banks has a few choice words for women who date married men. "It's almost like you're a predator ... and you're like preying on these people," she told one woman on 'The Tyra Show' (weekdays, 4PM ET on The CW).

Banks is quick to point out that a lot of the blame falls on the guy, but she's right in that it's a two-way street, especially when it comes to women who seek out married men.

Girls, take our advice. If you don't want to end up on 'The Tyra Show' weeping profusely, stay away from married guys! And thus ends our public service announcement for today.

'The Tyra Show': Are Women Hornier if a Man's Got Money? (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Feb 19th 2010 12:24AM
The Tyra Show, Love or Money?Do women get hornier if they know a man's got money? That's what Tyra Banks heard, so it must be true. The subject came up when her guest on 'The Tyra Show' (weekdays, 4PM ET on The CW) was describing the three types of love -- sexual, family and friends, and humankind.

The show was centered on whether we're teaching young girls to marry for money, rather than love. And if so, wouldn't that result in even more divorces than the staggering 50 percent we already have? Because who wants to spend their life with someone they don't love? Just askin'...

Tyra Banks - Beyonce HeatTyra Banks is so excited about trying Beyonce Heat, the songstress' new fragrance, on 'The Tyra Show' (weekdays, 4PM ET on The CW). In fact, Banks holds the bottle up before her like it possesses all the wonders of the universe – right there in her hands.

Things get even wonkier when she actually touches the magical perfume to her wrist. She starts twitching and writhing like a) she has rabies, or b) she's having a special female moment. You know, like Sally had in the diner in 'When Harry Met Sally.'

Does it make you want to have what Tyra's having?
