'Saturday Night Live' Doesn't Think Gabourey Sidibe Is Too Fat

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 1st 2010 8:02PM
Gabourey SidibeIt's interesting that in E! Online's announcement about 'Precious' star Gabourey Sidibe being asked to host an upcoming episode of 'Saturday Night Live,' their writer referenced a couple of disrespectful quotes Howard Stern had made about Sidibe in early March. Stern makes a living by saying things that push the envelope of good taste, but these words seem to have resonated a bit more than usual.

"There's the most enormous, fat black chick I've ever seen," he said. "She is enormous. Everyone's pretending she's a part of show business and she's never going to be in another movie." He even took on Oprah Winfrey, who's certainly no stranger to weight struggles or lasting success. "Oprah's another liar, a filthy liar. She's telling an enormous woman the size of a planet that she's going to have a career."

Betty Flashes a Stranger on 'Ugly Betty' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Apr 1st 2010 2:05AM
Ugly Betty, Betty flashes a stranger'Ugly Betty' (Wed., 10PM ET on ABC) is determined to go out with a bang. Or if not a bang, with every sort of gratuitous skin shot humanly possible before the show leaves the air for good.

Yes, folks, on last night's episode, Betty flashed her girls to a stranger. Well, she thought it was a stranger, but it turned out to be even more awkward than if she'd flashed a stranger. Super awkward.

TV Guide Picks Up Reruns of 'Weeds'

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 25th 2010 3:21PM
WeedsWhile you weren't looking, the TV Guide Network changed into a channel you actually might want to watch. What was once a channel filled with a giant TV schedule grid and various celebrity interviews and tedious gossip stories is slowly (or maybe not so slowly, based on how things are have been progressing lately) becoming a channel with actual TV shows and content.

First they picked up repeats of ABC's 'Ugly Betty,' and then a few days ago we told you that they picked up repeats of HBO's 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' (with a new panel discussion segment hosted by Susie Essman). Now MediaWeek reports that the network will start showing reruns of the Showtime series 'Weeds.'

The fact that new owners Lionsgate wants to show some scripted shows on the channel is great news. This doesn't mean the grid is going away, it's just going to be a lot smaller.

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 25th 2010 2:46AM
Ugly Betty, Betty gets her braces offStop the presses! Betty Suarez got her braces off on 'Ugly Betty' (Wed., 10PM ET on ABC). Yes, the trademark teeth accessory had to come off, but only because they got caught on a very expensive bra.

The fateful incident just proves what we've known all along: with or without the braces, America Ferrera is drop-dead gorgeous.

What to Watch: March 24

by Kim Potts, posted Mar 24th 2010 6:00AM
'Ugly Betty' (10PM, ABC)
With the series finale just a few weeks away (April 14), sweet episodes like tonight's 'Million Dollar Smile' already have us feeling nostalgic for the show. A spin on the 'It's a Wonderful Life' what-could-have-been storyline, Betty is psyched that her new orthodontist, Dr. Frankel (guest Kathy Najimy), is going to take her braces off. But when she gets knocked out at a fashion photo shoot, Betty has a dream fantasy that she never wore braces at all. In fact, in alt-Betty world, she was the pretty sister, Hilda was "Ugly Hilda," papa Ignacio gambled the family's money away, Amanda was married to Daniel and Marc was a kind, devoted father. And Betty's beauty made her a mean girl ... so mean, in fact, that her BFF is Wilhemina!

'Mad Men's' Sal To Guest on 'Ugly Betty'

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 12th 2010 10:15AM
bryan_batt_mad_men_nycThe men from 'Mad Men' are very busy these days. You have Jon Hamm all over the place, with beard and without, not to mention he and John Slattery being immortalized by Mattel as action figures. Action figures sound more manly than dolls, but you get the picture. The other night Rich Sommer was on 'Ugly Betty' as loutish firefighter.

And now the news that Bryan Batt will be on 'Ugly Betty,' too. TVGuide.com confirms that Bryan -- who was so good on 'Mad Men' as Salvatore Romano -- will be playing a soap opera star who Amanda decides would be Mr. Right for Marc. She plays Yenta, the Matchmaker, and hopefully, the two guys will hit it off. Batt's set for the April 7 episode, and may be in the series finale as well.

Now that 'Ugly Betty' has been canceled, America Ferrera is looking forward to all the things she didn't have time to do before, such as tap dancing and singing, she said on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated).

"A TV schedule is super grueling," Ferrera said. "And, so, I've sort of been making a list of all the things that I've been wanting to do and tap lessons is one of them. And, you know, singing lessons. I'm just so excited to have time to do other things."
