Betty Gets Her Braces Off on 'Ugly Betty' (VIDEO)
by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 25th 2010 2:46AM
Stop the presses! Betty Suarez got her braces off on 'Ugly Betty' (Wed., 10PM ET on ABC). Yes, the trademark teeth accessory had to come off, but only because they got caught on a very expensive bra.The fateful incident just proves what we've known all along: with or without the braces, America Ferrera is drop-dead gorgeous.

What to Watch: March 24
by Kim Potts, posted Mar 24th 2010 6:00AM
'Ugly Betty' (10PM, ABC)With the series finale just a few weeks away (April 14), sweet episodes like tonight's 'Million Dollar Smile' already have us feeling nostalgic for the show. A spin on the 'It's a Wonderful Life' what-could-have-been storyline, Betty is psyched that her new orthodontist, Dr. Frankel (guest Kathy Najimy), is going to take her braces off. But when she gets knocked out at a fashion photo shoot, Betty has a dream fantasy that she never wore braces at all. In fact, in alt-Betty world, she was the pretty sister, Hilda was "Ugly Hilda," papa Ignacio gambled the family's money away, Amanda was married to Daniel and Marc was a kind, devoted father. And Betty's beauty made her a mean girl ... so mean, in fact, that her BFF is Wilhemina!
America Ferrera: 'Ugly Betty' Cancellation "Wasn't a Complete Surprise"
by AOL TV Staff, posted Mar 22nd 2010 3:00PM
Last January, 'Ugly Betty' fans were outraged when ABC officially pulled the plug on the Emmy-winning series. Two months later, does star America Ferrera feel the same way? Sort of.
In an exclusive interview with PopEater, Ferrera said that she felt "a lot of things" after finding out that the show had been canceled. "Did I want the show to be over? Not necessarily, but it wasn't a complete surprise because the ratings were turning south, but we still had our very loyal audience," she said.
'Mad Men's' Sal To Guest on 'Ugly Betty'
by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 12th 2010 10:15AM
The men from 'Mad Men' are very busy these days. You have Jon Hamm all over the place, with beard and without, not to mention he and John Slattery being immortalized by Mattel as action figures. Action figures sound more manly than dolls, but you get the picture. The other night Rich Sommer was on 'Ugly Betty' as loutish firefighter. And now the news that Bryan Batt will be on 'Ugly Betty,' too. TVGuide.com confirms that Bryan -- who was so good on 'Mad Men' as Salvatore Romano -- will be playing a soap opera star who Amanda decides would be Mr. Right for Marc. She plays Yenta, the Matchmaker, and hopefully, the two guys will hit it off. Batt's set for the April 7 episode, and may be in the series finale as well.

The 'Mad Men' co-star will find himself in the middle of matchmaking scheme when Amanda (Becki Newton) tries to set him up with Marc, played by Michael Urie. No word yet on when the episode arc will air. [TV Guide]More casting news after the jump.
America Ferrera Discusses Life After 'Ugly Betty' (VIDEO)
by Donald Deane, posted Mar 10th 2010 12:30PM
Now that 'Ugly Betty' has been canceled, America Ferrera is looking forward to all the things she didn't have time to do before, such as tap dancing and singing, she said on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated). "A TV schedule is super grueling," Ferrera said. "And, so, I've sort of been making a list of all the things that I've been wanting to do and tap lessons is one of them. And, you know, singing lessons. I'm just so excited to have time to do other things."

TV Casting: Blair Underwood Is TV's Next President
by Andrew Scott, posted Mar 4th 2010 1:45PM
Blair Underwood has been elected the next President of the United States -- well, at least by NBC. According to reports, Underwood has joined the cast of 'The Event,' a new drama pilot about a conspiracy to assassinate the President, in which a regular man (Jason Ritter) finds himself caught in the middle. How very '24' of NBC. [Hollywood Reporter]More casting news after the jump.
Becki Newton Chomps on 'Love Bites'
by Brad Trechak, posted Feb 22nd 2010 10:00AM
Fresh off the cancellation of 'Ugly Betty', Becki Newton has already found her next big project. She will be starring in 'Love Bites', an anthology series on NBC about dating and relationships similar to the classic 'Love, American Style'. Unlike her manipulative Amanda Tanen character, Newton's new character will be an "optimistic, infectiously bubbly social worker who is a virgin".'Ugly Betty' started off strong but seemed to meander in the later seasons. Once it was relegated to Friday night (usually where science fiction and fantasy is sent to die), it was already pretty much done. What prompted the strong start was a memorable cast of characters, including Amanda Tanen as played by Becki Newton.
It's good for Ms. Newton to play someone radically different than Amanda to prevent typecasting. Granted, 'Love Bites' sounds at first like a series involving vampire romance. For Ms. Newton's sake, let's hope 'Love Bites' doesn't, well, suck.

Casting News: Kathy Najimy on 'Ugly Betty'
by Kona Gallagher, posted Feb 12th 2010 3:26PM
Kathy Najimy, who has recently appeared on 'Desperate Housewives' as Susan's high school enemy, is set to make a guest appearance on 'Ugly Betty.' What's interesting isn't that she's going to be there, it's why she's going to be there. Betty's finally getting the braces off! Najimy plays Betty's orthodontist and the one responsible for getting all of that metal out of her mouth. I guess Betty decided to switch orthodontists rather than have to deal with the creepy advances of her old one, played by 'Modern Family''s Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

Brian Stokes Mitchell to appear on Ugly Betty
by Brad Trechak, posted Jan 27th 2010 10:03AM
Despite low ratings, Ugly Betty is pushing ownward. Now, Tony winner Brian Stokes Mitchell will have a potentially recurring role on Ugly Betty as a former lover of Wilhelmia (played by Vanessa Williams) who is apparently a Joe Six Pack rather than an elegant charmer.Seriously, I've seen Mr. Stokes Mitchell (or it is just Mr. Mitchell?) perform on Broadway and he's very good. His voice has this unmistakable deep, dulcet tone that would translate well to a television romantic lead. Mitchell has appeared on television before as Dr. Jackpot Jackson in Trapper John, M.D.
