Billy Bush Bests Venus Williams in Grunt-Heavy Table Tennis Match (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Nov 18th 2010 4:15PM
Venus Williams and Billy Bush on 'Access Hollywood Live'Apparently, table tennis and real tennis don't require comparable skills. At least that's what Venus Williams found out when facing Billy Bush across the big green table today on 'Access Hollywood Live' (Weekdays, Syndicated on NBC). Venus was bested in a casual match, thrown off her game by Bush's grunting and probably also the much smaller court.

"You see how distracting it is when you go 'Uh!'" said Bush.

And to be fair, Williams was playing in high heels, and Bush had his power chinos. And the match was played on Bush's home court, as the table featured an 'Access Hollywood' logo, marked and branded.

Williams also might not be healthy enough for competitive ping-pong; she had to withdraw from the WTA Championships and Fed Cup Final in October due to a bum knee. To her credit, she didn't use that as an excuse here. But we're happy to do it for her.

Russell Brand Talks Venus Williams' Body at French Open (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted May 25th 2010 6:37AM
Russell Brand Talks Venus Williams' Body at French OpenBritish comedian and actor Russell Brand got a rock-star entrance on 'The Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC) that he found a little "terrifying" and likened (as only Brand can) to an orgy. Then he spotted the revealing poster-size photo of Venus Williams wearing flesh-colored underwear during her match at the French Open.

"That image of, I believe, Venus Williams -- I want that near me!" said Brand, leaping from his chair to retrieve it. "I looked at her legs, and I thought, 'This woman would make me safe."

Is he still scared following that entrance among the flames and explosions? Nah, but he has a few other things in mind regarding those powerful thighs.

Wendy Williams is Mistaken for Tennis Pro Venus Williams (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 30th 2010 4:00PM
During an interview with Venus Williams on 'The Wendy Williams Show' (weekdays, syndicated), Wendy Williams told a story of being stopped by a middle-aged couple asking for her autograph. But, Williams said, the couple mistakenly thought she was the tennis pro instead.

Williams said she was working as an entertainment reporter for 'Today' at the time and was entering the NBC studios when the autograph seekers asked for her signature. "Somebody stopped me with pen and paper ... [They said,] 'Ms. Williams! Ms. Williams! We love you! Can we please have your autograph?' I was like, 'Oh, thank you! Sure.' And, so, I wrote it down, and they said, 'We watch you every time you play.' I said, 'What?!' They mistook me for you."

Bill MaherIconoclasts is one of those shows where I always say, "hey, that sounds kinda cool, I gotta watch that...when is it on again?" and then I promptly forget to watch it or even set my TiVo. But this year's lineup sounds like something that will make me remember.

The Sundance Channel show returns in October with these episodes: Bill Maher and Clive Davis; Jon Favreau and Tony Hawk; Venus Williams and Wyclef Jean; Stella McCartney and artist Edward Ruscha; Cameron Diaz and architect Cameron Sinclair; and Richard Branson and Desmond Tutu.

Don't forget! Wimbledon starts today!

by Bob Sassone, posted Jun 25th 2007 7:26AM
WimbledonThere are exactly two things I like about summer: tennis and baseball. The rest of it can go to hell (and considering the temps it usually feels that way).

Not just playing tennis, but watching it too. ESPN2 begins their daily coverage of Wimbledon this morning at 8am. The network will have 9 hours of coverage today and most days for the next two weeks (except the weekends, when NBC will have coverage during the day). You can follow the action at espn.com or the official Wimbledon site. They're using that Hawkeye system for the first time this year.

And no, that doesn't mean Alan Alda will be making line calls.
