New Aqua Teen Hunger Force trailer

by Adam Finley, posted Mar 7th 2007 3:01PM

aqua teen hunger forceApril 13 can't arrive fast enough. I'm so thrilled about the upcoming Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters the first thing I did after seeing the new trailer was call my mother to tell her the good news:

Adam: Mom! Did you see it?

Mom: Adam, it's 3:00 a.m.

Adam: I know, isn't it awesome? I just wonder how they're going to stretch an eleven minute TV show into a full feature.

Mom: I have to get up for work in three hours.

Adult Swim Fix is now Mac-friendly

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 27th 2007 5:29PM

space ghostAdult Swim lovers who rock the Macintosh can rejoice: Adult Swim Fix, the broadband video site where you can watch clips and full episodes of your favorite Adult Swim series sometimes before they air on television, is now compatible with Mac computers. At least, that's what Adult Swim claims. I have a PC, so I haven't been able to test it. Mac users, let me know how the new Fix works out for ya.

Currently, the Fix has episodes of Trinity Blood, The Brak Show, Space Ghost, Sealab 2021, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Venture Bros., Minoriteam, Full Metal Alchemist, Eureka 7, Metalocalypse, Robot Chicken, Harvey Birdman and Tom Goes to the Mayor. If you're at work and your boss has been getting on your case to lower productivity, this should help.

Ten episodes of Starcade

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 22nd 2007 7:31PM

record playerDoes anyone out there remember Starcade? I sure don't. However, I've been getting up to speed by watching full episodes of the '80s game show. Starcade pitted two contestants together to answer trivia questions about video games and then play different arcade games for points. If you were a child of the '80s as I am, it's cool to remember all the games you used to play. They even have an episode that features Dragon's Lair, which I remember as being the most frustrating arcade game I ever played.

Reruns of the series popped up on G4 from 2002 - 2004, and according to both IMDb and Wikipedia, the second unaired pilot of Starcade was hosted by Alex Trebek. I assume he was taken off the show for asking contestants questions about both Kierkegaard and Frogger.

The episodes are worth checking out not just for the cool retro look, but also for the great "prizes," such as the portable record player pictured on the right.

Eugene Mirman in space

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 21st 2007 1:02PM

eugene mirmanThe biggest compliment I can pay to comedian Eugene Mirman is that he's my favorite comedian now that Mitch Hedberg is dead. That may seem like a back-handed compliment, but there's nothing wrong with second place, especially when you're first.

Anyway, a post on CC Insider hepped me to Eugene's new Web series on SuperDeluxe.com called "Space Talk from Dimension Eugene." If you've never experienced the indescribable comedy of Eugene Mirman, watching his videos should help you not understand him just a little bit better. If you have a penchant for smart and weird (or as I call it, "smeirdt") comedy, Eugene has exactly what you need. Also, many of these videos can be found on his Web site, and on YouTube. Really, if you don't watch at least one of them, you're just being lazy.

CW streaming full episodes

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 21st 2007 12:01PM

one tree hillThe CW is now streaming full episodes of select series on its site. Right now you can watch episodes of Everybody Hates Chris, Veronica Mars, One Tree Hill, Girlfriends, Beauty and the Geek, The Game, All of Us and Supernatural. As far as I can tell, it looks like episodes are added soon after they air on television, so there are no "sneak peeks," at least not yet.

Also, for you Mac users out there, the in-browser player should work just fine. According to the site's FAQ, the player will work in Firefox, too. I'm completely useless when it comes to technology, so if I'm wrong about that, share your complaints in the comments and we'll all break into The CW headquarters together and demand they scrap this player for a better one. Also, we'll snag Kristen Bell for this cloning project I've been working on.

I encourage y'all to also check out this list of sites where you can watch full-length episodes. Note that this is a list of legitimate sites, not torrents or sites like YouTube. Of course, if you use those methods, what do I care?

Catch new Everybody Hates Chris episode on Yahoo

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 16th 2007 5:42PM
everybody hates chrisNew episodes of Everybody Hates Chris will resume on the CW this Monday, but if you're just too damn impatient you can always click here and watch the next episode on Yahoo. How cool is that? It's a whole bucket of cool, that's what it is. The episode, titled "Everybody Hates Eggs," centers around a class project in which Chris and his classmates are given eggs to care for to prepare them for the responsibilities of parenthood. I like the plot because it makes my habit of throwing babies at unpopular stage acts seem a little less weird. See, I was going for a joke about treating a baby like you would treat an egg. Originally I was going to say something about frying a baby in a skillet, but that seemed too dark. Actually, just forget it and go watch the episode. Seriously, go.

Netflix to stream movies and TV shows

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 16th 2007 2:00PM

netflixIf you're a Netflix subscriber but can't stand waiting for those DVDs to arrive in the mail, I have some good news for you: over the next six months, the company will be rolling out a new feature that will allow subscribers to stream movies and TV shows directly to their computer. Initially, subscribers will be able to choose from about 1,000 movies and TV shows out of the over 70,000 offered through the company's mail service. Users will have to download a browser application in order to take advantage of the new service.

The service will be included as part of the subscription plan at no extra cost. As a Netflix customer, I'm thrilled to have another way of viewing these shows, though I have a feeling the majority of my rentals will still be done through ye olde postal service. I don't really have any desire to watch movies on my computer, at least not until I get a more comfortable computer chair.

Adult Swim is on YouTube

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 12th 2007 1:02PM

sealab 2021Adult Swim now has an official channel on YouTube, and I'm not really sure why. The channel only features clips and not full episodes, and while it looks like there are not as many user-uploaded episodes on the site as before, you can still find them if you look hard enough. Also, there's always the Adult Swim Fix that has both full episodes and clips.

So okay, it's more of a promotional thing. That's fine, but if I'm online looking for something to satisfy my craving for Adult Swim content, this is probably the last place I'll go to. Criminy, I sound like such a whiny little bitch: "Oh, why must Adult Swim provide me with free easy-to-view clips of shows I love?" Seriously, I should just shut the hell up. Who do I think I am, anyway? I'm going to go to my room and think about what I've done.

Ugly Betty is on iTunes

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 6th 2007 8:03PM

america ferreraHere's an example of how dense I can be sometimes: I had no idea that the lead in Ugly Betty was played by America Ferrera. I don't actually watch the show, so I guess I can be forgiven a little, but I've always thought Ferrera was cute so I'm surprised I didn't figure it out sooner. Then again, maybe that would be considered a compliment since she transforms herself so well into the role of an "ugly" person. It's not like she's Rachel Leigh Cook in She's All That who slips on a pair of glasses and still looks hot but we're supposed to accept she's a hideous nerd that no boy would want. I only wish the nerdy chicks in my high school looked like that.

Oh yeah, and Ugly Betty is on iTunes now. The first season is available, and new episodes can be downloaded the day after they air. Episodes are $1.99.

Watch the first 24 minutes of The Apprentice

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 6th 2007 4:01PM

the apprenticeThe new season of The Apprentice kicks off on NBC tomorrow at 9:30pm, but if you want a sneak peek at the first episode, you can watch the first twenty-four minutes here, courtesy of Yahoo. This is the sixth season of the reality program, and for a change of pace it takes place in Los Angeles, rather than New York City. I've actually been writing to series co-creator and reality TV god Mark Burnett about creating another version of the show in which individuals match skills and wits in order to become an apprentice to a blacksmith. That's how Paul Revere started out, and he turned out pretty good, didn't he? Have you ever heard "Indian Reservation?" That's a great song. He was a hero of the American Revolution, and a great piano player. That's exactly the kind of person Trump would want you to look up to.

You can also read Jonathan's preview of the first episode.

BET and Court TV shows now on iTunes

by Adam Finley, posted Dec 13th 2006 4:02PM
BETBET and Court TV have both recently added a few series to the iTunes store. BET is offering episodes of American Gangster; Lil' Kim: Countdown to Lockdown; DMX: Soul of a Man; Beef the Series; The Christies: Committed; and Comic View. Court TV also has episodes available: Psychic Detectives; Murder by the Book; Beach Patrol; Body of Evidence; and The Investigators. These shows have been available since late November/early December, so forgive me for not reporting this sooner, or don't forgive me, I guess it doesn't really matter either way. More than a few people know of BET's presence on iTunes, seeing as how American Gangster is one of the top ten TV downloads. All of these episodes, as usual, are $1.99 per episode. Court TV episodes are $1.99 plus time served.

New teaser for Simpsons movie

by Adam Finley, posted Dec 12th 2006 7:01PM

simpsonsThe first part of this new teaser features the same dancing CGI bunny and flowers as the other teaser for The Simpsons movie, but keep watching, because this is in fact brand new. Click here to watch it (WMV file), courtesy of Empire. I found this one much funnier than the last teaser, and I'm still as excited as child in a peppermint robot store* to see this movie in its entirety instead of all these little tidbits they keep tossing out to fans like bread crumbs tossed before pigeons. I can't really say much about it without giving away, so if you're still reading this, stop and click on the link and enjoy. Aside from the Comic Con footage that was leaked online, this is the second time I've laughed out loud at clips from this movie. Stoked is what I am. The movie hits theaters July 27, 2007.

*Robots made of peppermint. You can play with them and then eat them. That would be awesome.

Major networks might take on YouTube with new video site

by Adam Finley, posted Dec 9th 2006 1:16PM

computerNews Corp., Viacom, NBC Universal and CBS have been chatty-chatting with one another since the beginning of the year about one very important thing: THEY MUST KILL MISTER BOND. Wait, sorry, that's incorrect. I have trouble thinking of Rupert Murdoch and not seeing him seated at the head of a long table stroking a small exotic animal like some James Bond villain.

Space Ghost is on iTunes

by Adam Finley, posted Dec 5th 2006 7:49PM

space ghostGood news, fans of Space Ghost: Coast to Coast: I opened up iTunes and discovered that a few episodes of Space Ghost: Coast to Coast have been added to Adult Swim's iTunes store. The episodes are the usual $1.99 and include such classics as "Fire Ant" (which ends with Space Ghost distracted by an ant and ignoring guest Conan O'Brien completely) and "Kentucky Nightmare" where we learn things about bears and sharks we were never taught in school. The same shark featured in that episode would later turn up on 12 Oz Mouse.

Also, don't forget you can catch a couple episodes for free over on Adult Swim Fix. There's also this site called YouTube, which you might have heard of.

Give it up for Roosevelt Franklin

by Adam Finley, posted Dec 3rd 2006 2:02PM

roosevelt franklinWhile poking around YouTube for something completely different, I serendipitously stumbled upon a bunch of Roosevelt Franklin clips from Sesame Street. Some of you youngsters out there may be asking who the heck Roosevelt Franklin is, so let me inform you: he was a hip, rhyming, purple Muppet who appeared on the show in the 1970s, voiced by Matt Robinson, the original Gordon on the series.

In the 1970s, Sesame Street was not the perfectly sterilized children's show it is today. The show never advocated bad behavior, but it understood that sometimes kids can be rowdy and disruptive. Even in those more carefree days, however, some felt Roosevelt Franklin was a bad influence on kids, not to mention a negative cultural stereotype, so he was booted from the show. I personally don't see anything negative about the character. If anything, I think he taught kids that it's okay to be proud of who you are, to stand up and let the world know you're special, too.
