Tiger Woods Accident Rumors on 'The Wanda Sykes Show' (VIDEO)

by Elizabeth Chan, posted Nov 30th 2009 11:20AM
Wanda Sykes talks Tiger WoodsIs a car crash in the middle of the night a big deal? If it involves Tiger Woods, yes. The top golfer's car accident last Friday caught the attention of national news media and the resulting frenzy had Wanda Sykes asking some questions about the accident rumors. She offers some not-so-serious explanations about how Tiger ended up crashing his Escalade.

Watch the video clip of what she says on 'The Wanda Sykes Show' after the jump.

Review: The New Adventures of Old Christine - I Love Woo, I Hate Woo

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 26th 2009 1:32PM
Wanda Sykes(S05E09) I'm so glad Hank sucked, because it allowed me to establish a new two-hour block of comedy on Wednesday nights. Just substitute Christine for Hank, and then flip over to The Middle and ABC for the rest of the night. What a satisfying night of laughs.

There was no Thanksgiving trimmings for Christine this year; instead it was date night. And while the episode did fall victim to some predictable set-ups, it was still a lot of fun to watch. I particularly liked the twists and turns of Barb's date with Dave. She dragged Christine along to make sure Dave didn't propose to her.

Meanwhile, now that New Christine is pregnant, Richard is ready to woo her as well. But he needn't worry about cleaning up or even trying. Just get her into bed: that's where he really shines.

Review: The New Adventures of Old Christine - Nuts

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 12th 2009 12:35PM
The New Adventures of Old Christine(S05E07) I guess the fate of Marion Ross was handled off-screen, because Matthew and Richard are settling into her old digs, and she was nowhere to be seen this episode. Now that I think about it, though, she could be shacking up in Matthew's old digs out in the backyard. It would make for a pretty funny callback to have her character pop back up. Maybe even act as if Christine didn't even know she'd moved in back there.

I wasn't as impressed with the forced obligatory "we're different but now we're roommates" storyline for Matthew and Richard. Hopefully, now that it's out of the way, the writers have some ideas of some fun things they can do with the mismatched pair. In five seasons, we've not seen a great deal of interaction between them, but their differences could make for some good comedy.

'Lopez Tonight' Premiere Earns 3.2 Million Viewers

by Rebecca Paiement, posted Nov 11th 2009 12:45PM
Lopez TonightOn Monday night, George Lopez's late-night talk show ('Lopez Tonight') made its cross-network debut on TNT, TBS and TruTv. Looking just at TBS' numbers, The Hollywood Reporter says that Lopez drew in 1.7 million viewers -- quite a respectable feet for an 11PM cable show. That represents a 70 percent increase in viewers from the networks' typical faves in that time slot (among them repeats of 'My Name is Earl'). In addition, it puts Lopez above current season averages from late-night heavyweights Craig Ferguson (CBS), Jimmy Kimmel (ABC) and Jon Stewart (Comedy Central).

In the meantime, the face of late night is changing on other networks as well. Diversity seems to be the name of the game, with recent premieres by Wanda Sykes on Fox, and a new nightly show hosted by Mo'Nique sitting pretty on BET. Skyes' show is clearly aimed at her audience, and, admirably, she doesn't tone it down; her monologues, for example, sound exactly like her comedy routines. Her guests -- which have included Mary Lynn Rajskub, 'Brothers'' Daryl Mitchell and 'Amazing Race' host Phil Keoghan -- sip cocktails as they discuss current events.

'Wanda Sykes Show' Starts Off Strong -- Will Her Success Last?

by Bryan Enk, posted Nov 9th 2009 6:09PM

Variety reports that the much-hyped 'The Wanda Sykes Show' premiered on Saturday night on Fox with excellent ratings, averaging a 2.2 household/5 share in Nielsen's metered markets from 11PM to midnight. The show enjoyed success alongside the best-rated episode of 'Saturday Night Live' so far this season, which guest-starred Taylor Swift.

'The Wanda Sykes Show' has been heavily publicized as the first late-night talk show hosted by a gay black woman, and Ms. Sykes has certainly proved her comedy skills on shows such as 'The New Adventures of Old Christine.'

Leno Weekly: Paranormal Activity, 2012, Rachael Ray and more!

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 6th 2009 3:02PM
The Wanda Sykes ShowGood news, everyone! The Jay Leno Show was funny this week. There were some funny guests, genuinely funny comedy correspondent moments, and another Real Housewives quiz show, this time with the ladies from Atlanta.

Jay even managed to get a quick jab in to the bosses at NBC during an archery "Earn Your Plug" with Wanda Sykes. "This is NBC," he said to her. "I'm used to getting shot in the back." I've grown to respect Leno during his 10 o'clock experiment. He's a trouper doing what NBC is paying him to do, but you can tell he thinks the whole situation's about as screwed up as we do.

Even better, there were only two "10 @ 10" segments and no "Green Car Challenge" races, which allowed for more room to bring on Frank Calliendo and Sebastian Maniscalco to do stand-up routines. This is what I was expecting Leno to be doing, showcasing comedy rather than driving around a track trying not to hit Al Gore.

Review: The New Adventures of Old Christine - The Curious Case of Britney B

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 5th 2009 12:50AM
Trevor Gagnan(S05E06) Little Ritchie is growing up so fast! This week he's going to a school dance ... with the most popular girl in school!? Could Christine's whole world be changing? How can the meanie moms be mean to her if her son is dating the most popular girl in school? How can Christine screw this up? By being herself.

Meanwhile, Richard realizes he can no longer live at New Christine's house -- which is really his house -- so he starts to look for a new place to live, and finds a place where I'd sure as hell want to live. But there's a major problem with it, and he and Matthew have to tackle that before anyone can move in.

All in all, I think Christine is continuing a solid run of quality episodes. It helps that of the shows on ABC's Wednesday night comedy block, this veteran is up against Hank. And Louis-Dreyfus and friends are doing a fine job of beating it week after week.

Wanda Sykes On 'Christine,' 'Curb,' Her New Late-Night Show & Her Personal Life

by Maggie Furlong, posted Oct 22nd 2009 9:28PM
The Wanda Sykes ShowThe set of 'The Wanda Sykes Show' is like a cross between a late-night stage and a game-show set, but judging by the setup and clips we've seen, it's more about the party than the promotion with her guests.

With the set decorated in bright shades of red and purple, there's a giant TV screen to ensure everyone in the 140-seat live audience gets a good view of the action and a big letter "W" that turns to reveal a fully stocked bar. It's like the ultimate hangout where celebs come to play, and that's just the way Wanda likes it.

At a recent press preview, we were shown a brief sizzle reel in which Wanda Sykes mocks Ann Coulter, heckles her panel guests for not partaking in the lovely selection of alcohol (all bottles have generic labels, incidentally -- like JB McDaniels Whiskey -- until some smart company decides to sponsor the weekly festivities) and tries to recycle a box of sex toys with her pal and 'New Adventures of Old Christine' co-star Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

We snagged Wanda for a minute to find out exactly what her show will be like ("loosey-goosey") and what inappropriate games she's got up her sleeve (homeless or French, anyone?). We also got her to dish on her fate on both 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' and 'Christine' ... and then we got personal. Wife, kids -- keep reading for more.

Wanda Sykes Wants to Get Condoleezza Rice 'Liquored Up'

by Sharon Knolle, posted Oct 22nd 2009 7:00PM
Wanda SykesWho does Wanda Sykes want to appear on her new talk show? Only the president and the first lady!

Of course, the Obamas might want to think twice about that invite, considering Wanda's penchant for being "inappropriate." How inappropriate? "I want to get Condoleezza Rice liquored up," she crowed Wednesday night at a party to celebrate her show, aptly entitled 'The Wanda Sykes Show,' which debuts Nov. 7 on FOX.

Leno Weekly: Jamie Foxx, Wanda Sykes & more!

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 9th 2009 6:30PM
Wanda Sykes: I'ma Be MeWelcome to the inaugural edition of "Leno Weekly." As you may have noticed, there were no daily reviews of The Jay Leno Show this week. We felt that while it was important to cover the show for the first few weeks, the time for daily reviews has passed. NBC had promised that this would be a bold new comedy venture for prime-time network television. It's not.

That's not to say that it doesn't have its value or historical significance. Whether it succeeds or fails, it's still a big deal that NBC abandoned scripted television at 10pm. It's kind of like when ABC threw Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? on fourteen times a week to prop up their broken schedule a decade or so ago.

For those of you still interested in how the experiment is playing out, "Leno Weekly" will be a weekly roundup of the highlights and lowlights of Leno's primetime show, including clips. For those who don't think The Jay Leno Show deserves any kind of coverage at all on TV Squad ... now you only have one article a week to ignore!

Who Is Wanda Sykes' Wife?

by Andrew Scott, posted Oct 8th 2009 11:37AM
Wanda SykesLast night, Wanda Sykes paid a visit to 'The Jay Leno Show' to dish on Roman Polanski, the Olympics and raising five-month-old twins with her wife, Alex. The latter term garnered so much attention that it shot all the way to number one on Google trends.

So just who is Wanda's wife? Here's what we know:

Wanda Sykes and Alex, who met in 2006, were married on Oct. 25, 2008, in California. The following month, Sykes confirmed the news at a gay rights rally in Las Vegas. "I'm proud to be a black woman, and I'm proud to be gay," she said, according to PEOPLE.

The New Adventures of Old Christine: The Mole

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 8th 2009 3:27AM
The New Adventures of Old Christine(S05E03) I don't think it's giving anything away to say that the entire cold open to this episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine was done in the nude. I kept expecting Daniel Radcliffe to come traipsing through Christine's bathroom door. And for the record, I don't think I'd ever be comfortable enough around any ex to be able to have a normal conversation with both of us completely nude.

I've been a fan of this show since the first episode, and in all honesty, as we're sitting here in the fifth season, I'm surprised every year that it comes back. Not because I don't think it's a good show, but because it never has a huge audience and it seems to fly completely under the radar. And I say that with Julia Louis-Dreyfus having been nominated for her work on this show.

Get a taste of the Wanda Sykes show through her writer's packet

by Danny Gallagher, posted Jul 24th 2009 3:05PM
Wanda SykesIf Wanda Sykes' appearance at the White House TV Correspondent's Dinner was a taste of her new FOX late night show, then get ready for the appetizer.

Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood Daily scored a copy of the audition packet the show's producers sent out to prospective comedy writers that included a few choice bits that would make David Letterman's Sarah Palin punchline squad blush.

These are not bits that have been confirmed as part of Sykes' first show. They are just examples designed to guide the prospective writer towards the kind of work they are looking to produce when the show hits the air next fall. But even for random examples, they make my diseased mind wonder what could actually get on the air and how many strokes it will cause for elderly housewives across the nation.

Sykes gives us a taste of her talk show, right cross

by Danny Gallagher, posted May 14th 2009 10:03AM
Wanda Sykes at the White House Correspondents' DinnerEvery year, C-SPAN looks forward to a sharp boost in ratings while the White House press secretary cringes towards a sharp drop in approval points in the long shadow of the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner.

It's a chance for the current administration to let their hair down and show everyone that they can take a good joke and stand some pointed criticism in the K-Street jungle. That should explain why the last Bush administration hired Rich Little to do their show in '07.

Will Sykes' Saturday show sink Spike?

by Danny Gallagher, posted Apr 2nd 2009 9:03AM
Talkshow with Spike FerestenThe earlier announcement that comedienne Wanda Sykes might be one hair pulling development meeting away from getting her own late night show was a promising one.

She's got a good bit of star power to boost her ratings. She's had a good bit of experience as a late night comedy writer, most notably with The Chris Rock Show and least notably with The Keenan Ivory Wayans Show. She's also damn funny.

If Fox turns her into their newest late night comedy show host, it raises a worrying question: what will become of Spike Feresten?
