Corey Feldman Plays Warren's Father in 'Warren the Ape' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Aug 31st 2010 2:30PM
Warren should know better than to hinge a stage production on Corey Feldman. And yet, the too-trusting puppet casts Feldman as his father in an autobiographical rock opera on 'Warren the Ape' (Mon, 10:30PM ET on MTV).

Warren the Ape Talks About Hitting Rock Bottom on 'Attack of the Show' (VIDEO)

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 3rd 2010 4:19PM
Attack of the ShowWarren the Ape appeared on 'Attack of the Show' (weeknights at 7PM ET on G4) last night to talk about what it's like to be, well, a puppet. Not only was his career going in the wrong direction -- he describes himself as "the third Corey" -- but puppets always have to deal with the fact that they live their lives with a human hand shoved up their backside.

Now that's something you're going to think about every time you see a puppet.

'Warren The Ape' is a spinoff of the FOX/IFC show 'Greg The Bunny' that aired several years ago.

Sure, hand puppets are cute and fun, but can you really trust them? This clip from 'Warren the Ape' (Mon, 10:30PM ET on MTV) would seem to indicate otherwise.

Sex Tape on 'Warren the Ape' (VIDEO)

by Chris Harnick, posted Jun 15th 2010 10:40AM
Warren the ApeWarren is an ambitious, sneaky ape on 'Warren the Ape' (Mon., 10:30PM on MTV). In an effort to sabotage his competition for a cereal spokesperson gig, Warren makes a sex tape of the cuddly and well-endowed teddy bear.

Warren spread the tape all over the Internet and got the gig, naturally.

Dan Milano, Spencer Chinoy and Sean Baker on Bringing Warren The Ape to MTV

by Joel Keller, posted Jun 14th 2010 5:02PM
Warren the ApeWay, way back in January, MTV introduced the nation's critics at the TCA press tour to Warren The Ape. But it was a re-introduction to many. Warren -- a failed actor / successful drunk named Warren Demontague who is a fuzzy ape with a soft helmet on his head -- is familiar to fans of the various 'Greg the Bunny' shows, which have appeared on IFC and Fox since the early 2000s.

This time, though, the focus is on Warren and his bumpy life. During the series, we see Warren trying out for roles, getting pulled over by the cops, and going to meetings. Lots of meetings. He's a fabricated American (PC for "puppet") with a lot of vices, and we tag along with him as he tries to work it out, including to his weekly therapy sessions with Dr. Drew Pinsky (yes, the real Dr. Drew). Suffice to say, Warren's finding reform hard.

'Warren The Ape' premieres on MTV tonight at 10:30PM ET. After that January session, I spoke to 'Greg' and 'Warren' creators Sean Baker, Spencer Chinoy and Dan Milano (Dan is the puppeteer and voice of both Greg and Warren) about shifting to Warren, how Dr. Drew took analyzing puppets seriously, and whether 'Greg' fans will see their favorite characters show up during the series (one word: Wumpus).

Also after the jump, I'll replay my interview with Warren, which I originally posted back in January.

Warren the Ape takes the spotlight on his new MTV show - TCA Report

by Joel Keller, posted Jan 16th 2010 3:02PM
The first session of cable's second day yesterday was for MTV's new show Warren the Ape. Fans of Greg the Bunny know Warren; he's a "serious actor" who's got more vices than Artie Lange, and a nasty jealous streak for his bunny co-star, who used to get all the breaks.

In this series, Warren(whose last name is Demontague) is the star, as he tries to get himself on a reality show. That includes going through all sorts of rehab and recovery hoops, including weekly therapy sessions with Dr. Drew Pinsky.

The session put the many of the usually grouchy critics in stitches, especially when Warren criticized the Muppets, who are fellow "fabricated Americans."

"These Muppets on Sesame Street a lot of the monsters, you know, they've been defanged. They've been domesticated. But I tell ya, don't bring your kids to sets because those things will go for the eyes if you're not watching 'em between takes."

I caught up with Warren in the green room after the panel; the video is below. I also talked to his handlers, Dan Milano, Spencer Chinoy, and Sean Baker. The interview with them will appear closer to the show's June premiere.

If you liked Greg The Bunny, MTV has another show for you

by Bob Sassone, posted Sep 17th 2009 1:01PM
Greg The BunnyGreg The Bunny, first on IFC and then FOX for a season and then on IFC for a short time again, is one of those shows where, if you mention it to a group of 15 people, 14 will probably look at you like you have half a head and the other person will either nod that they remember the show but never watched it or they'll nod and say "oh yeah! That was a good show." It was an acquired taste (anything with puppets is, right?), but a lot of people really miss it.

Well, there's actually a spinoff to the show in the works. That's right, a spinoff.

The original creators are getting together with MTV for the new show Warren The Ape. The plot will find Warren depressed and broke after Greg The Bunny ended, so MTV approaches him to do a reality show about his life.
