Justin Bieber and Wayne Gretzky Face Off in Air Hockey on 'The Talk' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Feb 23rd 2011 6:00PM
Justin Bieber and Wayne Gretzky on 'The Talk'Wayne Gretzky may be "The Great One" on the ice, but he found out today on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) that his skills don't necessarily translate to air hockey. Justin Bieber was the guest, and started the game playing against Holly Robinson Peete. But then Peete called in a special substitute, and Gretzky walked on the set.

"It's not like real hockey, but let's go," said Bieber as Gretzky readied himself at the opposite end of the table. Bieber then casually slapped in the first point, easy beating Gretzky for a 1–0 lead. The game ended in a 1–1 tie after Gretzky's paddle appeared to fall apart.

There was one more surprise. Gretzky had brought a gift: a hockey jersey bearing the Great One's number 99. Bieber gave Gretzky a big hug. And when the panel later asked Bieber what it meant to meet Gretzky, he said, "Why'd you do that to me? You made me look like a groupie or something."

Right now on Cinematical

The folks at our sister site Cinematical are working hard to give you news and reviews of the best -- and worst -- the silver screen has to offer. Here are some of their musings on the latest blockbusters, indies, and everything in between:

  • Mark Ruffalo and Adrian Brody? Yes, please. Read the review of their new movie, The Brothers Bloom, on Cinematical.
  • I never saw the original Night at the Museum, but I heard from someone who attended the premiere that the sequel had several actual laugh-out-loud moments. Plus, it takes place at the Smithsonian, and as someone who grew up in the D.C. area, that's kind of cool. Anyway, if you're on the fence about seeing it, check out the trailer here.
  • Kevin Smith and Mitch Albom? Now that's a pairing I never thought I would see. But Kevin Smith doing a hockey movie? If you listen to Smodcast and have heard him get moved to tears talking about Wayne Gretsky, then that's not a shock at all.
  • They mentioned The Royal Tenenbaums, so this list is okay by me: Cinematical Seven - Favorite Con Men (and Ladies).
  • You guys, I love Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. And Die Hard? Come on. The summer of '88 was a good time to go to the movies.
