Comic-Con TV Highlights: Interviews with the Stars of Your Favorite Shows (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jul 26th 2010 11:00PM
Nathan Fillion at Comic-Con 2010Comic-Con in San Diego was a whirlwind for TV fans, with panels from favorite returning shows like 'Castle,' 'V,' 'Dexter,' 'Eureka' and 'MythBusters,' to new buzzed-about zombie series 'The Walking Dead,' mysterious shows like 'The Event' and TV's newest unlikely superheroes from 'No Ordinary Family.'

I was there for it all, and I've got the highlights from the press rooms, where the stars were still basking in the instant gratification from fans. So what's it like being at the Con? Some say it's 'Inception'-like, while others seem afraid to even walk the floor. Then there are the diehards -- Frank Darabont, Nathan Fillion and Elizabeth Mitchell could all be called Comic-Con royalty -- who just can't get enough.

See it all right here, then read the rest of our panel and press room coverage. And here's a very special Comic-Con episode of The Show Girl where I have more highlights, including scoop on upcoming episodes, dream guest stars and tons of Twitter talk.

by Mike Moody, posted Feb 24th 2010 2:03PM
Nerdist Drew Carey Johnny CarsonIt's always refreshing when a showbiz vet indulges in a passion project that's entertaining, informative and funnier than anything he's ever done before. That's exactly what 'Web Soup' host Chris Hardwick is doing with his latest online venture, The Nerdist Podcast.

Hardwick, 'Web Soup' writer Jonah Ray and pal Matt Mira launched the free-form podcast earlier this month. So far, they've posted three hilarious episodes featuring candid conversations with TV comedians Drew Carey, Tom Lennon ('The State', 'Reno 911!'), and Adam Corolla.

The show is worth a listen for anyone looking for a good laugh and some entertaining and honest conversations about life in the entertainment business. Nerdist gives Hardwick's famous friends a comfy venue to cut loose on countless topics and to tell personal stories you'll probably never hear anywhere else. (Most shows are recorded at the guest's home.)

Tosh.0 vs. Web Soup

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 6th 2009 11:03AM
Daniel Tosh & Miss South CarolinaI remember long ago in a cable land far away when a little show called Talk Soup started. It was clever, riffing on talk show shenanigans. We've come a long way since then, with clip shows blanketing the network. And then there's the Internet. On paper the idea of a web video iteration of The Soup, as it's now called, sounds solid enough, and G4 is a good place for it, but as Michael pointed out, Web Soup just isn't working.

Even though G4 is the place for techie stuff and they handle web videos already, Web Soup still manages to feel outdated and stodgy. And Chris Hardwick, while funny when he fills in on Attack of the Show, is almost mind-numbingly not funny hosting Web Soup. But Chris Hardwick and the gang were not alone in exploring web videos on our TVs. Comedy Central threw comedian Daniel Tosh into the mix with the webbily titled Tosh.0. But which one, if either, is better?

Too much Soup

by Michael Pascua, posted Jun 29th 2009 5:00PM
Web Soup on G4I was a fan of The Soup back when it was called Talk Soup and was hosted by Hal Sparks (I'm too young for the Greg Kinnear and John Henson eras). I've become a fan of Joel McHale and appreciate his writing staff and his comedic timing. Never in my wildest imagination did I ever think that Talk Soup would ever become a franchise like Law & Order, CSI, or NCIS.

Soon four versions of the soup showed up on E!'s sibling channels: The Dish (on Style), Sports Soup (on Versus), Web Soup (on G4), and Celebrity Soup (the British version), but none can compare to the original. The Dish is funny for female oriented television as Sports Soup is for watching the most awkward sports shows. Web Soup feels like a hiccup in the thought process.

Chris Hardwick to serve up Web Soup

by Mike Moody, posted May 11th 2009 1:26PM
chris hardwickThe producers of E!'s The Soup are creating a new show called Web Soup that highlights memorable moments in online video. Comedian and writer Chris Hardwick will host Web Soup, which debuts June 7 on G4.

I'm not a big fan of The Soup. It's the kind of show I'll watch for a few minutes while flipping. But I'll give Web Soup my full attention only because Chris Hardwick is hosting. The guy's hilarious. He's been making crap watchable since the 1990s when he used to host Singled Out on MTV.
