Betty White Stars on 'Hot in Cleveland'Everything's coming up Betty White these days! She hosted 'SNL,' was a guest on 'The Daily Show,' and now, she has her own new sitcom.

Betty stars on the series 'Hot in Cleveland' (Wed., 10PM ET on TV Land), along with a bunch of other television veterans. Her co-stars are Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick. Together, these ladies have logged approximately one hundred million billion hours of TV time, appearing on such shows as 'Frasier,' 'Just Shoot Me' and 'One Day at a Time.'

On the sitcom, Betty plays the caretaker for the three younger women -- who have arrived in Cleveland from Los Angeles, and who are trying to adapt to Midwestern life.

The girls are attempting to start a new existence in Cleveland, but first, they must deal with Betty. On the first episode, Ms. White tries to give them some advice, but actress Jane Leeves finds herself distracted by Betty's choice of attire -- specifically, her tracksuit. "What's the deal with old ladies and tracksuits?" she asks.

Here's a Sneak Peek at 'Hot in Cleveland' (Betty White's New Show)

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 19th 2010 1:30PM
You know what? This show looks pretty good. From this clip, it looks like Betty White is as funny as ever, and Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie Malick, and Jane Leeves are likable actresses too. Plus the writing doesn't seem horrible like a lot of sitcoms. I don't know what TV Land would consider a "hit," but this looks like fun. It debuts in June.

Valerie Bertinelli Sitcom (with Betty White!) is a Go at TV Land

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 2nd 2010 1:02PM
Betty WhiteBetty White has always been beloved by TV fans, but now she has reached a level of attention she probably never had before. She has hundreds of thousands of fans on Facebook who want her to host 'Saturday Night Live,' she's a guest on '30 Rock,' and she made a cameo last night on Leno's first night back behind the 'Tonight Show' desk. And now it looks like she might be back on TV on a regular basis.

TheWrap.com says that TV Land has said yes to a new original sitcom titled 'Hot in Cleveland.' It stars Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie Malick, and Jane Leeves as three Los Angeles career women who decide to move to Cleveland and live in a big house (no idea why it has that title though - perhaps global warming has done something to Ohio in the future?). White plays the caretaker of the house in the pilot. Though she hasn't been signed beyond that, you can bet that they'll try to get her to make appearances in later episodes too.

That's a great cast, and it's good to see TV Land doing something besides another season of 'High School Reunion.' They also added 'Bewitched' to their daily lineup and 'Everybody Loves Raymond' is coming soon, so maybe things are getting better there.

'Hot in Cleveland,' starring Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick as best friends from Los Angeles whose flight to Paris makes an unscheduled landing in Ohio, has gotten a 10-episode order from TV Land. The 40-something ladies, who are all at a crossroads in their lives, end up staying when they discover how glamorous the Cleveland citizenry finds them.

The legendary Betty White plays the brassy, one-liner-prone owner of the property that the ladies rent. The show will begin airing this June.

Betty White Talks About 'Golden Girls' and SAG Lifetime Achievement Award

by Leonard Jacobs, posted Jan 20th 2010 3:00PM
Veterans of early TV are scarce these days, most being retired or, well, really retired. But after 61 years in the business, the legendary Betty White is enjoying her third or fourth career resurgence -- and told AOL TV she's thrilled to be receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from Sandra Bullock at the SAG Awards on Jan. 23.

After doing radio and summer stock back in the 1940s, White's big break came as the "telephone girl" on a live, local Los Angeles show, 'Hollywood on Television,' hosted by popular DJ Al Jarvis. With all honors to Lucille Ball and 'I Love Lucy,' that gig led to the creation of one of the first female-driven sitcoms, 'Life with Elizabeth.' The TV skies were the limit from there.

TV Casting: Valerie Bertinelli, Betty White are 'Hot in Cleveland'; David Strathairn Books 'House'

by Andrew Scott, posted Jan 12th 2010 1:30PM
Hot in ClevelandFour TV vets have just inked deals to star in the new TV Land comedy pilot 'Hot in Cleveland.' Among those joining the show are Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie Malick and 'Frasier''s Jane Leeves as three best friends from Los Angeles who get trapped in Cleveland, then decide to stay when they realize the locals think they're hot. Also on board is Emmy winner Betty White, who will play the trio's "grumpy" and "opinionated" neighbor (how very Sophia Petrillo of her). In the meantime, this marks the second pilot order from the network, after 'Retired at 35,' starring George Segal. No word yet on a premiere date. [Hollywood Reporter]

DVD Review: Kate & Allie, seasons 1 and 2

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 4th 2007 9:40AM

Kate & AllieThis review is for the Canadian DVD release, which has season 1 (6 episodes) and season 2 (22 episodes). The American version only includes the first season (though the American release does have two things missing from the Canadian version: an interview with Susan Saint James and writer Bill Persky, and a gag reel).

Kate & Allie is one of my favorite shows. Yeah, I know, what's a 41 year-old guy doing loving some show about two divorced women raising their families together? The show was not only well-written and cast (Susan Saint James, Jane Curtin, Allison Smith, Ari Meyers, and Fred Koehler), but it had a lot of smart things to say about family, relationships, and living in New York City (the show was one of the few sitcoms actually filmed in New York, at the Ed Sullivan Theater).

McDermott, Malick join ABC pilots

by Anna Johns, posted Mar 11th 2006 6:21PM
malick mcdermott pilotsLots of casting news today in The Hollywood Reporter. Dylan McDermott has joined the cast of the ABC drama, A House Divided. It's about a rift between a midwestern farming community and the federal government. I wish I knew more because, wow, that sounds like a snoozer. Sarah Clarke (aka 'Nina' on 24) is also part of the cast. She plays the wife of the lead character, which might just be McDermott.

Wendie Malick, of Just Shoot Me and Jake in Progress, has been cast in the ABC comedy pilot, A Day in the Life. The show is about a young couple's wedding day, from different points of view (I imagine it'll have to advance past the wedding day). Malick plays the mother of the bride.

Jake in Progress: The Lying, The Watch, and Jake's Wardrobe

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Jan 11th 2006 9:09AM

Jake in ProgressWhen this show first started getting promoted around this time last year, ABC billed it as kind of a male response to Sex and the City. They used some cheesy tag along the lines of "same city, different sex." Needless to say, I thought it sounded ridiculous and chose to ignore it. After watching last night's episode, I kind of wish I hadn't because John Stamos was pretty good and I even laughed a few times which is rare for sitcoms these days, save for How I Met..., AD, and The Office.

The Five: Hottest Female TV Personalities over 50

by Joel Keller, posted Jan 6th 2006 7:31PM
Katey Sagal - Hottest over 50Last month I listed the sexiest TV women over 40, and there were a lot of them; both the Honorable Mentions and the comments indicated that I missed a good number of mature women that would make hearts go aquiver. When I first made the list, I was going to put anyone over 40 on it, but so many sexy women over 50 and over 60 presented themselves, that I decided to make 3 different lists (which also that makes 2 less ideas I have to come up with for The Five column).

So, after the jump, I'll give you a list of sexy women over 50 that have been on TV the last few years. They prove that getting older isn't the end of a career; in fact, many of the women on the list look better than they did when they were younger. Whether they got that way through genetics or through "help" isn't for me to judge, since there is enough terrible plastic surgery around for me to be able to appreciate women whose work is more on the "natural-looking" side.
