For the first time in its 135 year history, the 'Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show' (Tue., 8PM on USA) awarded the coveted Best in Show to Hickory, a Scottish Deerhound. She was a beautiful and well-mannered representative of her breed.

"For a lot of people at home, this is probably their first real good look at this breed," the announcers said.

It's certainly not a commonly seen breed in the United States.

'The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show' has become big business on television in recent years, and the opportunity to see breeds like this has to be one of its biggest draws. Sure, the 'Puppy Bowl' is adorable on Super Bowl Sunday, but the 'Dog Show' is a great opportunity to essentially window shop the best breeds in the world.

Awww ... what is it we love about the dogs who compete at the 'Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show' (Tue., 8PM ET on USA)? Is it the years of training? The patience their handlers invest in them? The skill they exhibit in front of the crowds?

Sure, all of that is fine, but we really love watching because they're so doggone adorable! Check out Sadie the Scottish Terrier, winner of 'Best in Show.'

In this age of easily maintained celebrity, all you need to stay in front of people's eyes are a pretty face and a willingness to be there. Mario Lopez has both, and he's built that into a a career that keeps him resurfacing from one unrelated project to another without ever really showing any particular gifts for performing.

Now, he's going to host the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show this February on USA -- because, when you think elite canine breeding competitions, you think Mario Lopez. (Somewhere in all this is a joke about what a dog Saved by the Bell was, but it's too much of a reach to go there.)
