For one blissful moment around the ten minute mark, I almost fooled myself into thinking that this week's 'X Factor' results show was only a half hour long. Surely, I thought, they couldn't stretch the announcement of the final four over an hour. (Do I even go here?)

Sadly, thanks to musical performances from Lenny Kravitz -- with no probing questions about 'The Hunger Games,' for shame, Steve Jones -- and Mary J. Blige, plus an inane video introducing us to the tireless backstage crew, the producers just about managed to pad the episode. And what a shocking episode it turned out to be.

It was Michael Jackson week on 'X Factor,' and, for reasons probably known only to Simon Cowell, another excuse for a double elimination.

Thankfully, the poor Jackson clan weren't subjected to the results show as well as the performances (Blanket thanks you, Fox) and we're not about to prevaricate either. The remaining contestants sang 'Man in the Mirror,' with Marcus and Melanie acquitting themselves well while Chris Rene missed more notes than he hit.

Despite Steve Jones' hyperbole, only Melanie turned in a performance really worthy of the artist they were celebrating, meaning that many of the acts should've been in danger of elimination. The two artists who were sent home were ...

'The X Factor' found an excellent way to make the hour of filler pass more speedily this week, fitting in performances from Kelly Clarkson and Bruno Mars as well as two "save me" songs and two remarkably drama-free exits.
